Synopsis:

Of course I want to be like them. They're beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.

And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.

Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.

To win a place at the Court, she must defy him--and face the consequences.

In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed. But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.

Review:

The Cruel Prince was a magical tale that swept me away. With deceit, lies, and personal motives swirling through the pages, there was so much unknown within this story. I loved the characters, I loved the way everything unfolded and I have a feeling this series is going to be one of my favorites! If you’re a fan of YA fantasy or enemies to lovers, then you definitely need this series on your tbr if you haven’t read it already!

What they don’t realize is this: Yes, they frighten me, but I have always been scared, since the day I got here. I was raised by the man who murdered my parents, reared in a land of monsters. I live with that fear, let it settle into my bones, and ignore it. If I didn’t pretend not to be scared, I would hide under my owl-down coverlets in Madoc’s estate forever. I would lie there and scream until there was nothing left of me. I refuse to do that. I will not do that.

The prologue started off with a burst of action, bloodshed and I couldn’t help but be glued to the pages. After Jude, her twin sister Taryn and her older sister Vivi witnessed something horrific, they were whisked away to Fairie. The world they were brought into could be so cruel and twisted. And even though Madoc, Vivi’s father, treated Jude like his own, the others in Fairie weren’t so kind to them. Jude and her twin were bullied at school. And Prince Cardan and his friends were the worst of the tormentors. But Jude refused to be backed into corners or made to feel less by others.

I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.

I loved Jude with my whole heart! She was smart, cunning, fierce and stood up for others and what she believed in. Jude always worked so hard to try and make herself stronger. So we got to witness as she persevered time and again, I had so much respect for her! I loved that she could get away with lies, since the Fey couldn’t lie. And while that may sound awful, she lived in such a ruthless world. She needed every advantage she could get. But I loved most of all that Jude had no problem standing up to Prince Cardan. Jude was loving, relentless, passionate and in the end she played a dangerous game that had me clapping out loud!

“You may win in the end, you may ensorcell me and hurt me and humiliate me, but I will make sure you lose everything I can take from you on the way down. I promise you this”—I throw his own words back at him—“this is the least of what I can do.

Cardan was deliciously complex. Him and his friends came across as ruthless and had no qualms with taunting Jude. Or asking her to back down, surrender, or put her into situations that felt dangerous. I didn’t know what to think of Cardan, other than I was obsessed. I loved that he saw so much and how he spoke. Even if his words were cruel. And when we got a tiny peak into Cardan’s life, it was not the wonder I thought it would be. My heart bled for him. So of course I looked deeply into any moment he seemed to help Jude, even if he had just hurt her. I tried to find his redemption. And in the end, I loved that Cardan was clever and my newest book boyfriend!

If I cannot be better than them, I will become so much worse.

But just like Cardan, Jude was also complex, and so were their relationships with others. I tried my best to figure out who I should like. Who I should trust. Because in Fairy, nothing was as it seemed. Taryn, Vivi, Madoc, Locke, Dain, and so many others left me feeling conflicted. And on top of that, I had so many questions. Looking back, there were lots of answers. It was amazing how much sense moments and words, from the past, made sense. At the time they were shrouded in puzzles, or made to seem like something else. And as those little pieces started to come together, the pictures it showed were shocking. I gasped out loud quite a few times. And while I did guess the ending, so much going into it was unknown.

His hand slides lower on my hip. I narrow my eyes at him.
“You really hate me, don’t you?” he asks, his smile growing.
“Almost as much as you hate me,” I say, thinking of the page with my name scratched on it. Thinking of the way he looked at me when he was drunk in the hedge maze. The way he’s looking at me now.

The Cruel Prince enraptured me with its intricate tale. They all lived in such a dark and twisted world, filled with bloodshed and death, where anything was possible. So whether it was a bargain that was made with the devil or a moment that reminded me of a scene from The Princess Bride, this book played out like a movie in my head! And the betrayal in these pages?! Oh my. It cut so deep. Too deep. But I rooted for Jude every step of the way. And when her plans started to play out, you couldn’t stop the constant smile on my face. I’m officially obsessed with this book and I have such high hopes for the next book in this trilogy!

I take a deep breath and decide that if I am really going to do this, I could use some help. “What do you think about stealing a crown? Right in front of the kings and queens of Faerie?”
Her grin curls up at the corners. “Just tell me what I get to blow up.”

PS I loved the Bomb, Roach & the Ghost!

Synopsis:

Lady Willow Arlington, hauntingly lovely, is also blind and known by the ton as the dowry-less daughter. Alasdair Morley, the Marquess of Westcliffe, is in need of an heiress, but Lady Willow should be the last person he craves after she was persuaded to reject his offer of marriage when he was a mere third son. Passion reignites between them, and he makes an enticing offer she cannot resist, drawing them into a dance of lust and love despite the misgivings in his heart.

Review:

I will be your anchor when you falter…always.

The Marquess and I was a delightful, sexy tale.  I was looking for a book that I could read in one sitting on KU, and this was exactly what I was looking for!  It was amazing how quickly I connected and adored these characters.  If you love second chance and historical romance, then this is the book for you!

Hardly worth remembering? She had dreamed of him at the crest of each dawn and nightfall for years. Memories of past kisses, shared dreams, and nightmares rushed through her, causing her heart to tremble in both fear and joy.

Alasdair Hugh Morley, the Marquess of Westcliffe and Lady Willow Rosalind Arlington, the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Milton, cared deeply for one another in their younger years.  And while Alasdair wanted them to marry, Willow’s parents would not allow that since he was a third son.  She was to be wed to another.  Six years later, after drastic events to the both of them, they’re near each other again with instant sparks and attraction.  But Alasdair is need of a wife with a substantial dowry and Willow has none.

I missed you. Yet the words would not come.

I loved Willow and Alasdair!  Alasdair was kind, sexy, but his heart still hurt because of Willow’s rejection years ago.  He had plans of ruining her, to help get her out of his system.  But when he discovers that Willow is now blind, from an accident in the past, that pulls at his heartstrings. And Willow?!  You guys, I loved her!  She was brave and strong, but she also sees herself as a burden to others.  They both had so much to learn and grow, with themselves and each other, and the moment they came together again everything changes.

I desire you to touch me, to kiss me, because I crave something more in my life.

This was a beautiful and quick story about two souls who were destined to be together.  I loved seeing that they still cared and trusted one another so deeply.  And I loved watching their story unfold, especially their moment by the lake *fans face*.  Their times together were seductive and sensual and I could have easily stayed with these characters longer.  I highlighted close to half this book, that’s how much I enjoyed this story lol. Now I can’t wait to devour the rest of the books in this series!

Review

OUT TODAY, PEOPLE!!!

Soooo, wow. As I was reading this book I was like “oh wow there are so many funny one liners, this is amazing. So glad to be back in the Busy Bean. Dang these two have some explosive chemistry, amirite ?!?!?” and then BOOM. The emotional kick that this one has at the end got me good (and I say that in the best way possible). But I’ll get to that in a bit…

First of all, can I just live in the World of True North? CAN I? Because I’m telling you, even excluding the amazing characters and strictly thinking about the places like the Busy Bean or Shipley Farms has me wanting to move out to that version of Vermont, lol. THEN we DO add in the characters and it feels like coming home every time I pick up one of these books. I love it.

I was so interested to start this story because it came with a trope that I haven’t seen often. Haley, who is a waitress and barista at the Busy Bean and has an Etsy shop on the side where she makes GORGEOUS leather creations (shoes, belts, you name it), has always had a crush on her sister’s old boyfriend Beck. They had a messy breakup a few years back that she knows nothing about and hasn’t seen him since. UNTILLLLL she does some sleuthing on a new coffee company that’s been stealing business away from the Bean and runs into the handsome Beck himself. Of course he’s part owner of this coffee bean company (see, do I even need to point out this is another reason for moving there?!?) with his brother, Sam. Beck, who we find out did in fact have a VERY very messy breakup with Haley’s sister, does not react well to seeing her.

I’m not going to break down the whole story but what you need to know is that Beck is wise enough not to let that stop him from doing business with the Bean. He and Haley are obviously thrown into close quarters a few times because of it and eventually this crazy explosive chemistry comes blasting out after one single kiss that was meant to just be comforting.

At first I was a bit wary of how fast things were going between them but they themselves wondered about it enough that I felt it was all natural. After all, sometimes you do just find yourself having an insane amount of chemistry with someone else. Once that was settled, the thing I was most worried about was how they were going to pull off telling Haley’s sister, Jess.

At first we don’t get a full picture but what we do get isn’t all that pretty. Haley does love her sister, there is no doubt about that, but it’s clear that Jess struggles with extreme highs and lows and takes the people close in her orbit long with her for the ride. Because of this, Haley has always unconsciously been put in second place by her parents. After a failed suicide attempt years ago, their parents are always on high alert of things setting Jess off and are constantly having to talk her out of these dangerous moods and lows. We find out later that Beck himself had to endure this behavior for a year and is still pretty messed up from it.

Despite that though, Beck and Haley decide that this explosiveness between them is worth exploring and before long fall madly in love. There is a moment where things come to a head on the Jess front but what I loved was that Haley decided that enough was enough of not coming in first. She chose to be happy with Beck instead of denying herself of that and I was so happy. I’m not going to lie though, the ending was very emotionally intense. Once we find out more about Jess and Beck’s relationship and the severity of the issues that Jess has been dealing with her entire life my heart hurt for ALL of them so badly. I was so relieved with how everything turned out in the end so rest assured there is that HEA that we all crave. 🙂

Synopsis:

Told in alternating timelines, THE THINGS WE LEAVE UNFINISHED examines the risks we take for love, the scars too deep to heal, and the endings we can’t bring ourselves to see coming.

Twenty-eight-year-old Georgia Stanton has to start over after she gave up almost everything in a brutal divorce―the New York house, the friends, and her pride. Now back home at her late great-grandmother’s estate in Colorado, she finds herself face-to-face with Noah Harrison, the bestselling author of a million books where the cover is always people nearly kissing. He’s just as arrogant in person as in interviews, and she’ll be damned if the good-looking writer of love stories thinks he’s the one to finish her grandmother’s final novel…even if the publisher swears he’s the perfect fit.

Noah is at the pinnacle of his career. With book and movie deals galore, there isn’t much the “golden boy” of modern fiction hasn’t accomplished. But he can’t walk away from what might be the best book of the century―the one his idol, Scarlett Stanton, left unfinished. Coming up with a fitting ending for the legendary author is one thing, but dealing with her beautiful, stubborn, cynical great-granddaughter, Georgia, is quite another.

But as they read Scarlett’s words in both the manuscript and her box of letters, they start to realize why Scarlett never finished the book―it’s based on her real-life romance with a World War II pilot, and the ending isn’t a happy one. Georgia knows all too well that love never works out, and while the chemistry and connection between her and Noah is undeniable, she’s as determined as ever to learn from her great-grandmother’s mistakes―even if it means destroying Noah’s career.

Review:

The Things We Leave Unfinished was an emotional powerhouse that quickly enraptured my heart.  The story was hauntingly beautiful and I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to these characters.  This is easily one of my top favorite reads of the year and if you love romance, then you should definitely have this one on their tbr.

“You said you know the worth of what I just handed to you.”
“I do,”
Our gazes collided, the electricity – chemistry, attraction, whatever it was – coursing between us enough to raise goose bumps on my arm. “Earn it.” – Georgia & Noah

The book alternated between Georgia and Noah in the present, and her great-grandparents Scarlett and Jameson in the past.  The story flowed seamlessly between the past and the present and in each moment I was captivated with what was unfolding on the pages.  I loved how easy it was to become invested in their lives, and that doesn’t always happen with me when there’s two time periods in a story.  But it was because I loved these four characters with my whole heart and soul.

“I’ve never had a problem reaching for things I want,” I replied softly. “It’s the falling that gets me into trouble.” – Georgia

Within that first chapter, I was already enchanted with Georgia Stanton and her world.  She was back home, in her quaint town, while healing from a very public divorce.  I quickly connected to her and felt her pain, not only from her past but even when she interacted with her mother.  Georgia’s emotions flowed so easily into my heart.  And when she met Noah Harrison, I loved how she had no problem being vocal with her opinions.  I adored their meet cute and the path he led her down!

It wasn’t that I was living for him, but that he simply made me want to live.  To fight.  To prove my point.  To take a stand when I’d usually defer to someone else’s emotions and take the path of least resistance. – Georgia

Noah and Georgia butted heads right away and were both fabulous at holding their ground.  But Noah had an amazing opportunity to help finish his idols book about her romance with a World War II pilot.  And the author was Georgia’s late great-grandmother, Scarlett.  You could feel the attraction between Noah and Georgia.  And while sparks flew when they were together, they had a lot of obstacles in their way.  Quite a few of their antics had me laughing out loud, and so many of the others had me constantly smiling.   So let it be known that I loved Noah.  Not only was he tall, dark and handsome, but he was determined, thoughtful and caring.  Together, Noah and Georgia filled the pages with laughter, longing and the most wonderful of angst.

Too much, too soon, too fast…it was all of that and then some, but she couldn’t bring herself to slow it down. – Scarlett

Georgia and Noah’s chapters would always start with a letter from the past.  And a few chapters into this book, we also got to hear Scarlett and Jameson’s story.  Scarlett was active duty and stationed alongside her sister Constance, during World War II in 1940.  Scarlett was brave and strong for helping out her country during the war, and the moment she met Jameson I was obsessed.  Jameson was a pilot who was captivating, seductive, swoon worthy, protective and I couldn’t stop smiling every time he spoke.  Their moments together created butterflies in my stomach and their love story captured me so easily.  Scarlett and Jameson had this soul deep connection that was intoxicating.  But every moment felt like it could be their last, their world was so unstable.

His heartbeat was strong and steady as they swayed. Here was the only place she felt safe or certain about anything lately. There was nothing in this world that compared to the feel of his arms around her. – Scarlett and Jameson

I shouldn’t have been surprised that I already had tears within the first 100 pages of this story, and they definitely weren’t the last.  Because the world that they lived in, the sacrifices they made for the greater good and the risks they took with their own lives was gutting and harsh.  Yet it was their way of life.  It was because of brave people like Scarlett and Jameson that their countries could survive.  But everything could change in the blink of an eye and I was beyond terrified for them.  So there were countless times where it felt like my heart was in my throat, and there was no controlling my emotions when I was in their world.

Nothing was close enough. She wanted to feel his ever breath, every heartbeat, wanted to live inside that kiss where there were no bombs, no raids, nothing that would pry him from her arms.
She lifted her hands to his neck and arched against him as his lips slid to the curve of her jaw. – Scarlett

The happiness that Scarlett and Jameson felt made me sigh out loud and smile.  Their times together were beautiful, emotional and their love was so powerful.  I also loved Scarlett’s sister, Constance, who seemed to be such a huge champion for the both of them.  The bond between the sisters was such a wonderful part of this story and it too pulled my emotions in so many ways with how their lives unfolded.  But with all of the love that flooded the pages, there was also loss.  It was so devastatingly painful that I sobbed.  I couldn’t stop the tears that were falling down my face as I flipped through the pages.  And just when I thought I wouldn’t cry anymore, the steady stream of tears continued.  But have faith, because not only was there so much love within these pages, but we also got to have a happily ever after for some of those we loved.

The smile that lit his face was echoed on hers, and for the first time in what felt like forever, she allowed herself to feel that happiness radiate, to sink into every fiber of her being. – Scarlett

The Things We Leave Unfinished was a beautiful and tragic tale of love, loss, sacrifice and hope.  Since finishing this story, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it days later.  If you love romance, epic love stories and characters that will easily steal pieces of your heart, you definitely want this one on your tbr!  I can’t recommend it enough!

BOOK REVIEW: Rescuing Harmony Ranch by Jennie Marts

Synopsis:

After her grandmother calls her asking for help, Jocelyn drops everything and heads back home to Harmony Creek, Colorado. Her grandmother runs a living history museum: a ranch and homestead where volunteers wear clothing from the early 1900s and demonstrate how things were done in the old West, from making soap to shearing sheep. The place is in financial trouble, and it needs the revenue from the annual festival to survive.

There’s just one thing that makes this a little awkward: Mack, who’s divorced, and who’s now the caretaker and blacksmith at the homestead. Jocelyn and Mack have their own shared history, which includes both stolen kisses and teenage rivalry.

Even as the past and present collide, they have to save Harmony Ranch. Matchmaking grannies, a meddling mutt, and a flood of fun festival activities might just be enough to overcome their differences and forge two broken hearts back together.

Review:

Rescuing Harmony Ranch was a charming story filled with heart, romance and family. If you adore Hallmark movies, second chance romance and happily ever afters, then you’ll definitely want this one on your tbr!

“I miss everything about this place,” she whispered, hoping he knew she meant him too, even though she couldn’t bring herself to say it out loud.

Jocelyn Stone was forced to leave Colorado with her mom, when she was a teen, and move to NYC.  She left behind her Gram and boyfriend, Mack Talbot.  Ten years later she’s back.  And while she thought memories from her past would haunt her, she didn’t expect to see Mack.  Especially not with him living and working on Harmony Ranch.  But now they’re going to have to pull together, to save her Gram’s ranch.  And it’s the start of a brand new adventure!

They’d broken each other’s hearts— not intentionally, but it had hurt all the same. This one moment felt like a chance to heal some of that pain… to start anew.

I adored Jocelyn.  She was a hard worker who loved deeply.  The moment family needed help, she dropped everything to go take care of them.  But between her job, helping take care of her Gram and trying to save the ranch, she had her hands full.  Thankfully there was Mack to help her out.  And while they were childhood friends and then sweethearts, they could be so awkward around each other at times.  Other times they fit together so seamlessly.  You could tell that they both were interested in the other, but there was 10 years of misunderstandings in their way.  With so much that needed to be said, I wondered which one of them was going to take that first step.

“Just dance with me. Don’t think about all that other stuff. Leave the past behind us and the future ahead of us, and just be in this moment . Here. Now. With me.”
She let out a breath and relaxed in his arms. He drew her even closer and moved them around the grassy dance floor.

I screamed out loud when I realized that we also got Mack’s POV.  After just a few pages with him, I was so attached!  Mack had this gentle, soothing manner to him, but you could tell that his emotions ran strongly through his veins.  Especially since he seemed to remember everything from their past.  And the way he was thoughtful, kind and considerate to Jocelyn, it all melted my heart!  But my heart also broke for Mack, he knew that Jocelyn was going to leave again.  Just like last time.  I kept the hope alive and my fingers crossed.  Ohhhh and I absolutely loved Mack’s dog, Savage!  He was the hugest sweetie ever and his antics had me constantly smiling when he was on the pages.

He held her gaze, his voice dropping to a husky whisper. “I would do anything for you.”
She sucked in a sharp inhale at the intensity of his words.

There was a gaping hole between Jocelyn and Mack that they needed to work through.  But both of their Grandmothers, who were also best friends, loved to meddle.  I enjoyed watching them try to discreetly push Mack and Jocelyn together.  But trying to save the ranch also did that too. Shared meals, brainstorming meetings, dancing by the lake and so much more captivated me.  Not only did I find myself rooting for the ranch to be saved, but for Jocelyn and Mack to be together too.

“When is the last time you let your heart decide?”
She swallowed. “Never.”
“Maybe it’s time you gave your heart a chance.”

Romance lovers will be delighted with Rescuing Harmony Ranch!  This story was so adorable and a lot of fun.  I couldn’t stop smiling at their antics and everything that unfolded.  And I kept thinking that this would be the perfect Hallmark movie!  If you’re a fan of romance that is sweet, there’s a great chance you’ll fall hard for this book too!
