Synopsis:

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon's determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I've sworn him off, even though he's running more hot than cold these days. But we've got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense is here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I'm a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who's got a secret of his own. He knows what's happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I've seen someone who shouldn't be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he's never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

Review:

**Spoilers if you haven’t read Obsidian**

This was a brilliant second installment to the Lux series. The tension and chemistry between Daemon and Katy was so steamy that I thought I would melt, the mystery that surrounded people and events left me reeling trying to figure out what was really going on and again that ending left my heart crying out in happiness and sadness for what had happened. Onyx was thoroughly addicting, and when I was done absorbing every single word and meaningful moment, I was desperately reaching for the next book in this series.

He took a fortifying breath. “I always liked you. From the moment you first flipped me off.”

We start out in one of my favorite situations. Daemon and his damn pen pestering Katy in class. How can something as simple as poking and bothering someone put the biggest grin on my face? Daemon is harassing Katy that they have to work off her trace, again. But things are different. Her and Daemon’s heart beat are in sync, she can tell when he is near because her neck tingles and after Katy gets sick she ventures into the unknown. With a thought, Katy can move and cause things to happen. Locker doors are opened, the shower is turned on, but why? Shouldn’t aliens be the only ones to do that?

Sometimes I seriously wanted to just punch him in the face, but it made me warm in all the right places to see this side of him again, too. “You’re insufferable.” “You like my kind of suffering.”

A new kid transfers to the school, a hottie who is a surfer named Blake. Let it be known that I loathe Blake. My heart is 1110% Daemon and it exasperated me that Katy would even fathom hanging around another boy. I understood why, but still, it drove me crazy! Katy feels a kinship to this normal, human boy and when she’s around him all things alien can momentarily be forgotten. Because after that epic battle, she needs some reprieve and normalness in her life. But Daemon has other plans. His jealousy and hatred for Blake was nothing short of entertaining. Daemon refused to call Blake by his real name. Ben, Brad, Bob, Biff, Bart, Bo and so on. I laughed each and every time! His confidence and cockiness knows no limits and he definitely lets Blake know that. Daemon and his infuriating sexiness (YAY!!!!!) is back in copious amounts in this book, so be prepared to be swooned while he tries to win Katy over!

I was used to the sarcastic and rude Daemon. In an odd way, that version was easier to deal with. We could trade insults all day. But this Daemon…this one who wouldn’t give up was kind and gentle, funny and – dear God – thoughtful.

I don’t want to say anymore, other than you are in for an exciting ride! My assumptions for events and people and my patience for stubborn Katy were definitely put to the test. And at the end of the book, I was elated with how the story progressed and ended. This is such a fun and sexy read and I highly recommend it!

“Not when you’re mine.” Daemon backed us up and slid down the wall, pulling me into his lap so I was straddling him. “And you’re mine.”

PS I usually have a huge problem with nicknames. They rub me the wrong way and bug me throughout the whole book. BUT when Daemon calls Katy Kitten, oh my gosh, it makes my heart race! I love it!

So…I was really excited about this one. I got it on my Ipad and immediately put it in front of other ARCs to read…but it just didn’t work for me. It didn’t seem to be bad at first, and as a whole, the story actually was pretty well thought out and fun. But as the dialogue started to drag and I began to lose interest (rather quickly), I started to realize that perhaps this was not A) What I was in the mood for and B) At all what I expected it to be. But, as I said before, I think the story as a whole had a lot of potential and this leads me to believe that this is, in fact, my perception of the story and that many people will love it.

Talia wants revenge on the man who killed her family-Ian Crane. She has a talent to both open the mind of others and open her mind in return. She is dating Donovan, the head of the Academy she will be attending’s son. I loved their little bubble they hung out in at first, but as the story started to expand and the cute little moments became repetitive, I began losing interest. It was adorable when they were together, sure, but it wasn’t altogether gripping paired with the story as a whole. It would say that Talia and her team were going out to train and then all of a sudden the next night would be there in a flash, or maybe I had began to zone out so frequently that I didn’t realize. I just don’t like when scenes aren’t played out for me and I can’t become immersed in the world, and I felt this happened more than once with this one.

There was also an extra love interest, Erik, who was her right hand man and teammate. Now, I did love their scenes together and I even still loved Donovan. This book made me want more, but also had me backing away. At the moment, I can’t seem to find a reason to continue because I was so put off by the cheesy dialogue between Penny and Talia, the cliched moments when Donovan got jealous (that scene could have been epic-I love jealous scenes), and altogether my lack of love for the story, but, I really see myself coming back and attempting a re read in the future because this book/series holds so much promise. By the time the action and peril got to the story, I felt like I didn’t care and it was too late…but maybe next time I can find the love I didn’t have this time and fully immerse myself into their world.

It didn’t work out for me this time, but next time I hope to be able to appreciate the action brought forth from this story and hopefully be able to love what this author has created. It is loved by countless others and I hope to join them in that love some day. But, for now, I will put this series down and take a breather.

Ok, it has officially been a week since I finished this-I was in Antigua so no Internet connection to review….but even after a week I am still shocked into O M G mode that this book was so damn good.

I really figured it would be corny and just another YA paranormal romance. I was wrong. I loved Daemon, I loved Katy, and I loved Dee. I loved them all, which is very rare. Katy was a realistic heroine figure and she never once got on my nerves. Daemon….was definitely a douche..but I STILL loved him and hey, lets be realistic-I knew better than to fall for his facade. This book had it all-Suspense, romance (of course), a huge, dramatic fight-to-the-death scene at the end, and a cliff-hanger that had me cursing out loud that I was in another country and could not buy the second installment in the series. Needless to say, the minute I landed in the states I was seeking out Wi-fi connectivity in-between flights to get started on the second book in this awesome series. Loved it-another favorite added to the shelf.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED Obsidian, and I loved Onyx. But I wasn’t AS wowed when I finished as when I finished the first. This one was great, but I guess it just bothered me a tad, and I say a tad because I know it shouldn’t all just work out perfectly right away, that Katy would not admit her feelings for Daemon. I mean, come on, just admit it! That part drove me crazy. And normally I could care less in a romance if there is lack of girlfriends, but I truly missed Dee in this one.

She was hardly in it and she is just the sweetest thing..weird thing to say I know, but she was so nice and fun in Obsidian that I missed her spunk in the second. I guess that made an impact of the intensity of the novel as well. And, as per her first book, there was another cliff hanger at the end of this one that had me scrambling yet again to another Wi-fi area to download book 3, Opal. I know there will be yet another cliff hanger at the end of Opal and it has me asking myself-What will I do when done with this third book..considering the fourth installment does not come out until July?…

Oh man did this book get me… It literally took me forever to finish the last 50 pages because I just KNEW that Jen was going to leave us with a killer cliffhanger-and that she did and then some. The previous two installments had cliffhangers that had you begging for more, but Opal left you feeling like you were a fish out of water gasping for breath with no relief. I was on the edge of my seat until the very last sentence, and it nearly killed me.

How am I going to wait until JULLLYYYY????

I am so addicted to this series, and I never knew about it until recently! Thank you Goodreads! I would never have found such an awesome series without using this site. This series was so unexpected..paranormal can be written stupidly, and frankly after all the paranormals I have read I have been trying to stay away from them. These books are far from stupid-they are beautifully written and even have you laughing out loud. I would have truly been missing out if I passed this series up-it has literally everything. Seriously. Love, loss, BETRAYAL to the nth degree, humor, suspense, action and more.

This is one of my new top favorite series and I suspect I will be re-reading it..despite my best efforts to move on and find another series until the sweet release of book 4 in July that will hopefully satisfy the gaping hole this book left in my heart. It will be virtually impossible. I would not pass this series by…it hooks you and leaves you begging for more.
