Synopsis:

An emotional friends to lovers romance full of risky secrets and late-night lessons in seduction.

Dylan is my best friend, and the only person in my life who understands me. He doesn’t mind my social awkwardness or my weird history. The only glitch? He doesn’t know that I’ve been hopelessly, desperately in love with him since the first day we picked apples together in his family’s orchard.
But I know better than to confess.
Now that we’re both in college together, I’m seeing a new side of him. College Dylan drinks and has a lot of sex. None of it with me.
Until the night I foolishly ask him to tutor me in more than algebra…and he actually says yes.
But the cool morning light shows me how badly I’ve endangered our friendship. And I don’t know if anything will be the same again.

Review

If there were one fictional family that I would gladly want to be folded into, it would be the Shipley clan.  From the very first time we are introduced to all of them in Bittersweet, I knew that I was going to form a life-long attachment and love for the entire family.  I actually recently went and re-read that first book and I forgot how many little snippets we see of a younger Dylan that are just hilarious.  He still had that larger-than life, easygoing personality (especially compared to Griff).

Since most of the other books take place when the MCs are in their mid-to late-twenties or so, I enjoyed this one being set in college.  Since I’m an old woman now with almost two kids (har har, jk..kinda) I always get giddy and nostalgic thinking back to those easygoing times.  This book was no different.

I was also pretty excited to learn more about Chastity.  After Zach’s book when she shows up and it’s pretty evident that she has her own story to tell about how she got the hell out of there, I was eager to learn more about it and how she was going to fit in in a college setting.  Other than struggling with some of the class aspects of things though, I thought she really thrived.  She ate up those “normal” college experiences and craved more.  Of course I loved that Dylan helped tutor her.  What a sweetheart.  Really though, other than him having a filthy mouth and being this super brawny hunk of man meat (lolll) he may be the sweetest Shipley out there.  No, I take that back.  He definitely is.

My heart broke for him on numerous occasions because of the blame he was placing on himself for his father’s death.  It’s always easy to see from an outside perspective that there would have been absolutely NOTHING he could have done that day to make his father still be alive.  But he still couldn’t see that and of COURSE because he’s a stubborn male he couldn’t talk about it with anyone.  I was so happy when he finally was able to talk that out with his mom and brother *sobs*.

Hmmm what else?  Oh, the steamy scenes?  Yeah, you aren’t going to want to miss those.  The whole dynamic where the girl wants the more experienced guy to “teach her” the ways of things always gets me.  I mean, how can it not?  Especially when Dylan is so sweet to her and cares to make things as good for her as they possibly can be ~shivers~.  Highly, highly recommend, as always.

Synopsis:

They say blood is thicker than water, but I was never proud of mine. A female born into the Kamlock bloodline was destined to possess three things they couldn’t change—a crazy as hell mother, an unfair amount of beauty, and a Charmed soul that was as black as night.
All a Kamlock woman ever desired in life was to use her beauty to destroy wealthy men and take their riches. A century had passed since a generation of Kamlock sisters had been anything other than gold diggers.
All I ever wanted was to be free of them. I knew I couldn’t change my cursed birth, but I could change its legacy. I had a job, I had friends, and I was slowly gaining my independence.
Until Rathe Scott crashed into my life and tore it apart.
He made me feel what I had spent my entire life never wanting to feel. He brought out a darkness I’d not known was inside me. And just when I thought I was becoming everything I had sworn I would never become…
He was gone.

Review:

I was the evil they all should fear.

Charmed Souls was the type of book that was easily devoured. The characters were effortless to connect with, the story line was beyond addicting and I loved how magic floated through the pages.  With friendship, a romance that had a forbidden feel to it and humor, Charmed Souls completely bewitched me and left me begging for more.  If you love paranormal romance or new adult stories then definitely add this one to your tbr!

The darkness had always calmed me. Even as a child, nighttime was my favorite. The quiet, the beauty of the stars, the comfort of being alone.

I liked Catalina, aka Cat, right away.  She stood up for herself, took care of her friends and worked her hardest to be good, since she was born into a toxic bloodline.  Cat was a witch, who not only cast spells and enchantments, but could also control some of the elements and see ghosts.  Her mother and sisters, oh my gosh you guys, they were trashy and mean.  They used their siren abilities to control and use men.  And take all of of their money.  Cat’s tumultuous relationship with them hurt my heart, but it was addicting to watch since she stood up to them.  So Cat didn’t let men get close to her, she would not be like her family.  Until Rathe walked into her world.

His dark expression was exciting. “You are going to fucking destroy me, and I will relish every moment.”

Rathe moved in with Cat’s best friends, Heath and Margo.  And Cat tried her best to keep her distance.  To act indifferent towards him.  Yet Rathe enraptured us in his spell and I wanted to know all there was about him.  He was kind, thoughtful and caring. Yet something simmered below the surface of him. It made his charm even more alluring. And while he was a player, I was intrigued that he seemed to only act as a friend towards Cat.  Especially when he seamlessly embed himself into her life.

“Maybe I’m crazy!”I called out to him, as I walked, trying to break the tension that had unintentionally built.
“Or maybe you’re darker than you want to accept,” was his response.

Charmed Souls felt like an addicting reality tv show, with paranormal aspects splashed across the pages.  This story was set during the college years and I loved watching the parties unfold. And while Cat lived at home with her family, I loved how she could escape to her friends apartments.  Unfortunately I can’t say much more about this story, because it’s best discovering it for yourself, but I loved Cat’s cousin, Duely.  Be prepared for some TMI, but his heart was always in the right place.  Duely, Margo and Heath loved Cat inside and out.  It made my heart oh so happy since her home life didn’t even have an inkling of that.

Things started clicking into place. Things I didn’t want to connect. Things that I wanted to be a lie.

I thought I knew exactly where this story was going.  I even screamed outloud, I knew it!  Twice.  But there were some things that were twisted in a way that I didn’t see coming.  It was beyond exciting and now I’m desperately waiting for that next book!  So yes, I definitely recommend Charmed Souls!  If you love magic, drama, a strong heroine and an addictive book boyfriend then definitely put this one on your list!

SERIES REVIEW: The Hitched Series by G.K. DeRosa

So I read and reviewed the first book in this series, Hitched: The Bachlorette, back in September and completely forgot to post the reviews for the rest of the series.  Even though they were already written.  Whoops, mommy brain!  So I’m sharing them with you guys today.  If you want to go back and read my review of the first book, you can find it here.

Synopsis:

A Fae prince, a guardian angel, twin dragon shifters, a vampire… And that’s only the beginning.

Now that the truth is out about the supernaturals, things are starting to get interesting. With ten bachelors remaining, Kimmie-Jayne needs to get her head in the game. But with a murder investigation underway on set, listening to her heart only complicates matters.

To make things worse, the mysterious accidents that were supposed to end with the big supernatural reveal are back with a vengeance.

As if choosing between ten hot guys wasn’t hard enough, Kimmie-Jayne still needs to watch her back. With more twists and secrets being revealed everyday, is there anyone she can really trust?

Will following her heart be the answer or her ultimate downfall as she narrows it down to the final five bachelors?

Review:

Hitched: The Top Ten was an absolute blast!  We got to learn more about Azar and the political rulings.  And I loved that we were down to ten bachelors and got to spend time learning who they were.  With group dates and accidents still being prevalent, there was a lot of action in the pages and a hint of mystery in the air.  This book flew by fast again and I found myself shocked with a barbaric twist within the pages.

Not only have I been thrown into this dating game with supernaturals, but they’re all from super powerful and politically influential families. What does that even mean, and how am I involved?

The only thing I was wishing for, was that we got to hear all of Kimmie’s thoughts.  She doesn’t share all of her feelings with us, about the guys. And with her kissing many of them, it left me feeling nervous we wouldn’t end up on the same page.  Thankfully she kept my favorites around at the end of the book, when she narrowed it down to the final five!

Synopsis:

Five bachelors left. Four mystical families to meet and territories to explore. Four chances to avoid a supernatural war.

Kimmie-Jayne thought discovering the bachelors were supernatural was tough, until she finds out she has to spend the week with their families.

Now she’s whisked off to meet four of the most powerful families of Azar. If she can survive dragon lords, daunting angels, the intrigue of Fae court, and the Underworld, she’ll end up with the man of her dreams. Or so she hopes.

But nothing is as it seems in each of these households, and perils loom in every corner of the vast estates. As more secrets and betrayals surge to the surface, Kimmie-Jayne can’t deny that following her heart might get her killed.

Will the men she loves be able to protect her or will the supernatural world prove too much for her as she struggles to choose the final two?

Review:

His fiery kisses sear a path down my skin, marking me as his.

Hitched: The Final Five is my favorite so far!  We got to visit the bachelors homes and I was ecstatic to see where they came from and learn even more about the guys I had fallen for.  I felt like I got to understand Azar a lot more and that I got to know each of the bachelors inside and out! And while I still have my favorites in this group, I feel like there’s only one that felt right for Kimmie.   I’m holding out hope he will be the winner of her heart.  And that the others get their own books *fingers crossed*.

His intense eyes pierce into me, reducing my insides to a quivering mess. “I don’t know what it is about you, but you’re all I can think about. I see you in my dreams, in my every waking moment. You’ve left your mark on my soul, and nothing will ever change that.” – said by my favorite to Kimmie

This was another fast paced story with lots of action.  This time around we get a ton of answers to our questions.  Or clues, like when Lucifer said something I shouted out loud, I knew it!  Ha! I absolutely adore this series. Hitched: The Final Five was so effortless to devour and I loved being lost in this world!

Synopsis:

The time has come to pick The One.

With one bachelor missing and chaos in her heart, Kimmie-Jayne must find the strength to choose the final two. Once that terrible decision is made, she’s sure things will be easier.

But she’s wrong.

When jealousy flares within the manor, the producers have no choice but to sequester the final two bachelors. As Kimmie-Jayne battles her fracturing heart, torn between two men, news of a surprise visit home sends her hopes soaring.

But it’s short-lived.

Disaster hits while she’s at home, leading Kimmie-Jayne to make a startling discovery about her past—one that changes everything. Juggling this new information while attempting to disentangle her feelings for the remaining bachelors only further complicates matters.

Will Kimmie-Jayne finally get her happily ever after?

Review:

I absolutely loved how Hitched: The One ended.  It was everything you could wish for in a happily ever after!  But, this book was emotionally the hardest.  There could only be one winner, and feelings were bound to get hurt.  When Kimmie narrowed it down to two bachelor’s, my heart hurt for the one who I guessed wouldn’t have a shot at winning.  But at the same point, my heart was ecstatic for who I had a good feeling she would pick. It was impossible not to get so deeply attached to either of the remaining two bachelors.

I do love them all, but in different ways. There are some I can’t imagine my life without and others that though parting would be difficult, it wouldn’t be life-ending. I want the all-consuming, heart-shattering kind of love and as unlikely as I thought it would be, I believe I’ve found it here.

In The One, the two final bachelors got to go home and meet Kimmie’s family.  They both fit in so perfectly with them, it warmed my heart. Plus I loved that we got to learn more about Kimmie and her family life.  And I loved even more that my suspicions and the rest of the questions were answered!  So if you love happily ever afters, characters that you can’t but fall for and reality tv then you should definitely add this series to your tbr!  I’m so glad I picked it up and I’m excited to devour the rest of this author’s books!

PS I’m SO excited that one of the contestants that didn’t make it to the end got to be in a spinoff series called Darkblood Academy.  I can’t wait to read it!

Synopsis:

From the author of Come Back to Me comes a striking new novel about a young woman— desperately trying to protect her family from their violent father—who finds safety, and a passionate romance, with an ex-Marine.

Ever since Zoey was a kid she’s been caring for her mom and her little sister, defending them from her violent father. She’s been the strong one, the responsible one as she sacrificed her wants and dreams to keep her family together.

Now the life they’ve built for themselves in California is about to be upended. Her father, just released from prison, has discovered where they’re hiding and has come looking for them.

Enter Tristan. A former Marine and now member of the Coast Guard, Tristian promises his best friend, and Zoey’s Marine brother, that he will take care of Zoey and her family. Protect them, watch over them, and be the rock they need in their lives.

And as Tristan starts to help Zoey deal with the emotional fall out of her childhood, their relationship turns from protector to something more. The two grow closer as a romance blooms into a heart-pounding and powerful relationship that Zoey hopes will be strong enough to fight off the damage her father has done to her and her family.

But not everyone can be kept safe forever, and when Zoey’s father does show up, a confrontation ensues that will change Zoey’s world forever.

Review:

Watch Over Me was beautifully emotional and gripped me from that first page.  There was a thriller element to this story that kept me terrified with what was to come next.  And even though I’m not a thriller girl, it fit perfectly into this story and I loved every minute of it.  Especially since the characters leaped off of the pages, the relationships burrowed deep into my heart and the story made me turn the pages faster.  I absolutely loved Watch Over Me and I can’t recommend this book enough!

I grab the phone.
“Yes?” I say.
Silence greets me.
“Who is this?” I whisper, heart hammering furiously.
There’s another second’s silence, and then I hear the click as whoever is on the other end hangs up.  As I stare at the phone, there’s an enormous BOOM.  The window shatters, and glass flies across the room.  A wall of heat rushes toward me as a crackle and a deafening roar fill my ears.

One of the many things I love about a Mila Gray book is that the prologue gives us a brief glimpse of the future.  I’m riveted every single time.  But once the story starts, I get so caught up in what is happening that I forget we’re going to run into that moment.  And the moment in this prologue?  It was horrific.

He’s so different now, so grown-up in a way that makes me feel weirdly uncomfortable and also makes me want to keep staring.

Zoey was almost 19 years old and had the weight of the world on her shoulders.  She always sacrificed what she wanted so she could take care of her mom, eight year old brother and younger teenage sister.  They were trying to make a life on their own, since Zoey put her father in jail for almost killing her mother.  But her father got out of jail early.  And it looked like he was terrorizing them again.  The tension ran so thick at times that I had chills racing down my spine.

“I’m sorry,” Tristan says, and it riles me because the last thing I want or need is his pity. “You shouldn’t have had to deal with that all by yourself. It must have been hard.”
That’s an understatement.  But something catches in my chest.  I think he might be the first person who’s ever recognized how hard it was.

Tristan promised to watch over them.  He was Zoey’s older brother’s best friend.  And her brother was being deployed overseas.  Tristan knew them from when they were kids and was someone the family could trust.  I loved Tristan.  He was an Officer in the Coast Guard and was such a good man.  Tristan had a kind heart, was protective and tried his best to do good by others.  He was also open, honest and had the worst jokes ever.  Tristan always made Zoey and I smile and laugh.

I know I should probably pull away because I’m no longer crying, but I don’t want to. I feel safe in his arms.

I loved Zoey.  She worked so hard to take care of those she loved.  But she could be bitter and cynical, because of her past.  Zoey also had problems accepting help from others.  So I loved watching her and Tristan butt heads.  Because every single time they did, it seemed to intensify whatever was between them.  And since we got to hear both of their thoughts, I just wanted to push them together.  For them both to find their happiness with one another.  But darkness was looming, and you could feel the unsaid threats from her father lingering in the air.

I stare into her eyes . She looks at me , her face so open , like she’s standing, holding her heart in her hands and offering it to me. The vulnerability gives me pause. But then she does something unexpected: she pushes up on tiptoe and presses her lips to mine.

This is easily one of my favorite brother’s best friends romance story!  And while it was amazing seeing all of the characters we loved from Come Back to Me and Stay With Me, you don’t have to read those books to follow along with this story.  But I highly recommend you do because you’ll feel so many more emotions.  And those characters played pivotal moments throughout this story.

Tristan wraps his arms around my waist from behind.
“I won’t ever let him hurt you,” he tells me, whispering the words into my ear before kissing me on the jaw.
I
shiver against his body and lean into him, closing my eyes, wishing I could believe him.

Mila Gray’s books always make me cry more than any other book does.  I looked back and realized I cried six different times while reading this story.  From heart to hearts, to being terrified, to happy tears, she made me feel it all.  So if you love romance stories about family, friendships, finding your way in life and true love, then you’ll want to pickup Watch Over Me.  I’ve fallen for another Mila Gray book.  Watch Over Me is definitely going on my favorites list!

PS The emotional development between Zoey and her mom and sister was absolutely beautiful.

PPS The table crush scene had me laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe, best thing ever. Kit, Walker, Didi, Jessa oh my gosh it was perfection! I love those characters and have missed them so much!

Synopsis:

Rule one: Don't look at the demon.

When I arrived at my uncle's house, I expected my relatives to be like me—outcast sorcerers who don't practice magic. I was right about the sorcery, but wrong about everything else.

Rule two: Don't listen to the demon.

My uncle chose a far deadlier power. He calls creatures of darkness into our world, binds them into service contracts, and sells them to the highest bidder. And I'm supposed to act like I don't know how illegal and dangerous it is.

Rule three: Don't talk to the demon.

All I had to do was keep my nose out of it. Pretend I didn't find the summoning circle in the basement. Pretend I didn't notice the shadowy being trapped inside it. Pretend I didn't break the rules.

But I did, and now it's too late

Review:

Taming Demons for Beginners was a ton of fun, action packed and impossible to put down.  Just from that first chapter I was hooked and I screamed out loud best chapter ever!  Oh my gosh you guys, Annette Marie knows how to pull you in and continually have you begging for more.  The storyline was addictive, the characters lept from the pages and she created a world I never wanted to leave.  This book is for everyone out there that loves to say just one more chapter, and then before you know it you’ve finished the whole book.  In one day.

Adrenaline flooded my body. Panic screeched in my head, but I couldn’t move. Frozen like a rabbit in the wolf’s teeth, I stared at him in horror.
He held my fingers in a tight grip, then pulled.

I loved Robin.  She always seemed to be baking or have her nose in a book, and those are my two favorite things!  Robin was such a sweet girl with a huge heart.  But she could be shy and timid, and my heart hurt for for her.  Robin had moved in with her Uncle, after her parents passed away.  She was told to avoid magic, but her Uncle was swirling in it.  He summoned demons and created contacts with them.  That was extremely illegal.  All Robin had to do was mind her own business and stay away from the demon that was trapped in his library.  But who knew just how impossible that would become.

Payilas.” His whisper demanded my answer.
“Protect me.”

The demon, ohhhhh I was obsessed with him right away.  I probably shouldn’t like someone who was supposed to be a killer, but Zylas had me deep in his clutches.  I was fascinated learning everything I could about him.  His words and mannerisms cracked me up, even though he wasn’t trying to be funny.  He didn’t understand so many things like what a tv was to blushing.  So it felt like he was from a different world, but at the same time, there was so much Robin didn’t understand either.

“What do you want?” My arm was on fire, blazing with agony, and I didn’t understand his question. My crumbling composure gave way.
“I don’t want to die,” I sobbed, shaking and gasping.

I loved watching Robin and Zylas learn about each other.  They were worlds apart and their misunderstandings had me laughing out loud.  Even when it was a serious moment, you couldn’t knock the smile off of my face at times.  But Robin grew so much in this story, and it felt like it was because of Zylas.  And Zylas, well I can’t talk much about him, but I loved watching them both evolve as the story unfolded.

I’d known full well that Zylas was a risk to everyone around me.
I’d known, and I’d ignored the danger.

Hold on because this book had heart pounding action that had me on the edge of my seat.  There were intense moments that were life or death.  Some of them I never even saw coming, so I gasped or screamed out loud. And when the pieces to the puzzle finally started to fall into place, it was terrifying.  Deadly.  This book truly had it all.

Kill them all, I thought as clearly as I could. The first chance you get.
His tail twitched, his stare boring into mine. The connection between us burned hot, an invisible thread that bound our fates together. Crimson light glowed across his fingers and the semi-transparent talons that tipped them. His tail slid slowly across the pavement. The twenty yards between us yawned even wider.

There were side characters I desperately want to talk about, but it’s best not knowing anything about them.  All I can say is I somehow got attached to one of them and I’m happily shocked I did.  And while I didn’t read the other series this one is linked to, you don’t need to, it stood on it’s own.  But I’ll definitely be picking it up!  So yes, I recommend this book!  With magic swirling through the pages and characters that I absolutely loved, I can’t wait to see what happens next.

“In my world,” he said unexpectedly, “there is a type of … tree.”
I faced him again, my brow furrowed in puzzlement.
“On the tree, it grows small …” He cupped his hands as though holding something. “… small fruits. The outside is poisonous, deadly, but inside is juicy and sweet. We fight over these trees. I have killed to take the fruit when it is ripe.”
He picked up another s’more cookie. “These are better.”

PS I’d love to know the recipes Robin made, they sound delicious!  Especially the marshmallow-stuffed s’more cookies!  YUM!
