Synopsis:

Sexy, tatted up, underwear model Marcus Grayson is every girl’s dream—or more likely worst nightmare. He’s a player, a self-proclaimed bachelor for life, and he’s got no problem living up to his man-whore status. But when his older sister’s friend comes back from the past, he may just have the chance to turn some of his adolescent fantasies into reality.

Tessa Bradley is a self-sufficient, take-no-bull, single mother—well, now she is. Finally rid of her abusive, alcoholic ex, she’s making a new life for herself and catching up with old friends; the ones she was forced to break ties with because of her controlling husband. When she runs into Marcus, her friend Riley’s once-adorable turned smoking-hot little brother, she has no idea how he’s about to rock her world.

Review:

Keep Me was a sweet, feel-good read that kept a smile on my face and made my heart race. Although it did delve into issues that were deeper than I had expected, those scenes added an extra layer of depth and intensity. At the end of the book, I closed my kindle feeling happy that I got to stumble into Marcus and Tessa’s world.

I tangled my hands in her now-messy hair, and whispered in her ear, “You. Are. Addicting.” – Marcus

Marcus Grayson is a man-whore. He knows it and revels in the fact that he can have anyone he wants. It doesn’t help that he is a tatted underwear model and constantly has women throwing themselves at him. His path is about to cross with Tessa Bradley, a blast from the past. Tessa was his older sister’s best friend. He thought she was gorgeous and did everything in his power to obtain her attention, even if only momentarily. But that was years ago, and Tessa’s world has just crumbled to the ground. Her husband isn’t around anymore and she is being forced to get a job and leave her sweet baby boy, Luca, in daycare. When Tessa and Marcus run into each other, the sparks fly. From here it takes a sexy turn, but how can Tessa deal with any type of interaction with Marcus when she’s still struggling from her past? And better yet, can a play-boy actually change his ways?

Holding my son close to my chest I silently sobbed, wishing my life could have been different – good, like right now. Instead, I was all screwed up, jaded and broken, with no foreseeable way to fix it. – Tessa

Our journey begins with alternating chapters between Marcus and Tessa’s voice. I preferred Tessa to Marcus in the beginning, because I wanted to understand her plight and her struggles. But as the story progressed, Marcus started to get under my skin. I didn’t want to fall for a player, but his kindness and gentle heart kept sneaking out. He won me over with how he interacted with his sister, the sweet act he does in memory of his mom, and how he treats Tessa and Luca. He’s a good guy underneath that tattooed, cocky exterior and I ended up loving to hear his side of the story too.

Everything I’d worked for in the last six months was slowly vanishing. My dignity, my independence, my morals. And the worst part was…it felt good. – Tessa

Tessa is devastated with how parts of her life have progressed. She is shattered, she is damaged and she has walls built up. While letting in an old friend, Marcus’ sister, is one thing, allowing a man to enter her heart is another. I had a lot of fun watching Marcus try and wiggle his way into her bed and heart. They have this physical connection that is steamy and off the charts hot. I had to fan my face quite a few times because sometimes the verbiage went outside my comfort zone. And that is because Marcus brings out her dirty, wild side. Who knew she could be like that? Wow. But Tessa better watch out because not only is Marcus sexy and fun, but he could be a danger to her walls.

He stared down at me, his hand caressing my cheek. How he could be so tender while being so…hot, I didn’t understand. “I can give you what you need. And you…you’re everything I never knew I wanted.” – Tessa

Keep Me is a quick, easy read that you’ll want to grab when you need to find hope, happiness and a heart-warming story. I can’t wait to continue the series to see what happens to Riley, Marcus’ sister.

PS I LOVE that at the end of the book, Faith Andrews has a playlist which includes the song Laid by James. Some of the lyrics are perfect and I’ve always loved that song!

Wow, an absolute page turner…I only started this novel because I was bored and then I just couldn’t put it down-Isn’t that always how it happens? I finished it in less than a day.

A story that can be explained as both tragic and happy, where two people truly “meet” under the worst of cirumstances. They are forever imprinted into each other’s lives, never to forget not only that one circumstance that fatefully pulls them together, but all the events that lead up to it. They both have dark secrets and scars (both physical and mental) to show for those secrets, and no one who has truly cared to know what’s beneath Kayden’s scars or Callie’s sudden baggy clothing meant to shield herself from the rest of the world.

They both have crutches that help them to get through their dark times, and it truly horrified me that they felt they needed to do these things to feel alive again. It saddens me to think of all the people in plain sight that feel they have no one to turn to for emotional support or help, that they feel they need to do these things..it’s heartbreaking. And that’s the way I felt the whole novel, just when one of them would experience something happy, they would go to a dark place, much like how their lives were at certain points of time.

The whole novel keeps leading up to a dramatic ending we know is coming, but it doesn’t effect the shock factor of what comes to be, despite us knowing that we are being lead somewhere we don’t want to go. The final words give me the chills, finalizing what happens with a bang.

So until the release of the second novel, I’ll be waiting and hoping for the best in the second book, because I don’t think I could survive another brutal cliffhanger like this one.

Jennifer has done it again-hooked me, line and sinker, to another of her compelling novels. I’m so glad she decided to do this “sekrit project”, lol, because I don’t know if I could have survived without her quirky writing style until the release of her 4th Lux novel or her other standalone coming this summer.

Let me start by saying that Cam…wow…there just aren’t enough words to describe how sweet and attentive he is. From the beginning he emits an air of confidence with a mix of playfulness and sexual innuendos that will have you grinning like an idiot in public, or in the office in my case :/, and laughing out loud on numerous occasions.

What I love most, though, is that while Cam is sure of himself and pushes a very close friendship with Avery, he never once forces his hand when he starts getting feelings for her, thus ruining the friendship. That is a very refreshing and redeeming quality and I can’t quite help but to love him even more for just that. He realizes something is off with Avery, but gives her the space she needs. And who wouldn’t love a guy with a turtle named Raphael?? Adorable. A definite nostalgic reference that related to me. Nice.

Avery is another great character. She made me laugh with her quirky inner dialougue and hilarious references. However, she has some demons in her past she hasn’t yet faced and this gets in the way of her possible relationship with Cam. OF COURSE this drove me mad the entire novel, but hey, complete and total intsa-love so isn’t for me, so what would be the fun without some angst along the way?

These character traits and lifestyles are the reasons Jennifer is one of my favorite authors, and I say this because I know I can always pick up her latest story and count on her for a fun, passionate read. I would suggest this story to anyone, really any of her stories, and know that others would enjoy it too. Hopefully she has a few more “sekrit projects” or perhaps just secrets she isn’t telling us, her loyal fans, so we can see some more of her work sooner rather than later.

Oh my gosh, it pained me to rate this any less than 5 stars, but when it doesn’t do it for you, it just doesn’t do it for you. I was ecstatic to start Redemption after the cliffhanger we were left with in book 1. I had waited for most of the summer and was getting anxious to see Callie and Kayden’s fate. What I didn’t realize when I started reading was that I was in for a lot of “rinse and repeat”.

The last thing I see before I pass out is the most beautiful blue-eyed, brown hair girl I’ve ever laid eyes on. The only girl who’s ever owned my heart and I hold onto the image with every ounce of strength I have. Otherwise, I’d probably lose the will to breathe.

I loved the beginning of this book. My status updates make it quite clear I was really enjoying myself. Kayden was as sweet and vulnerable as ever, and Callie was determined to make sure Kayden had the best life he could possibly have. I was highlighting like crazy-I could hardly finish a page without having to stop and make a mark so I could go back and re-read all the sweetness that stained these bitter pages.

Seth: We’ll be there in a little bit. We had to stop at the store.
Me: For what?
Seth For stuff.
Me: Is something wrong?
Seth: No…we just think you two might need a few minutes to yourselves.
Me: When will you be here?
Seth: Soon. And remember: Skittish cat.

But then something happened-No, wait, and then the repeating happened. For those who truly just sped through this book and swore to ♥ it 4eva, this was a subtle detail that they will probably never notice-and while I was/wanted to continue to be one of those girls, I couldn’t. How many times can one thing happen in a story before it gets redundant? How many times can you run from someone who cares about you, straight into a home where you clearly aren’t loved or cared for? I know there is absolutely no way I can begin to understand what it’s like for the victims of these horrible circumstances, but if someone makes it clear they love and want to help me….I’m most likely not going to run away 20 times. Maybe a couple, sure, I’d try to be noble, but there comes a point and time where you have to realize who’s trying to help you and who could give a shit about you. It took our main man quite a while to get his ducks in a row, and I about went mad waiting for it to happen.

I can’t say it’s all Kayden that attributed to my annoyance level. But I also can’t say that Callie did anything wrong…per se. She was insistent with Kayden, which, I suppose you have to be with someone who needs help and is going through a very dark time, but the dialogue did get a tad obnoxious.

I don’t know. Maybe something is wrong with me. It was a cute story, I just wanted more from it, but maybe in this case: less is more. Had this story been 50 pages shorter, more condensed, I believe Callie and Kayden’s struggle would have had a stronger impact, a deeper level of sorrow and struggle, therefore leading to a more uplifting redemption. Left as is, I felt the pages dragged a little and I found myself thinking of other books and what I was going to be reading next. It’s a shame, because this story had so much going for it, so much potential to be something great.

All in all, a cute read. I had missed Kayden and his loyal demeanor, how he cared so much for Callie and what he would do to keep her safe and happy-even at his own expense, even in this second installment. It’s adorable and commendable, but not enough to make me love this story. There has to be more than a character’s personality and supposed good looks to make a story whole and complete, and for me, this story was just a multiple repeat of the same scenario, different situation. I wish this book nothing but the best, but it just wasn’t a win for me.

*4.5 Stars….Maybe…Still not sure*

Taking a long breath, my eyes narrowed at him. “You’ve already made me cry countless times.” I raised my middle finger to him slowly, and asked, “Do you know what this is?” I took my middle finger and patted the corner of my eye with it. “It’s me, wiping away the last tear you’ll ever get.”

I’m extremely conflicted right now. I don’t quite know what I expected, but it wasn’t what I read. Or is it exactly as I had imagined? I just don’t know. On the one hand, it was a very addicting story that had me itching to read it when I wasn’t able to. On the other hand, the ‘bullying’ wasn’t quite what I was thinking….It’s all just so confusing lol.

We can be confused about what is good for us but not what we truly want.

Tate and Jared were best friends for years before high school. They did everything together, until the summer before their freshman year when Jared had to leave…he came back and was never the same. He ignored her, avoided her, and relentlessly bullied her in front of others. Tate didn’t understand where her best friend and confidant went, and it essentially caused her to curl up in a ball and just take it.

While Jared mercilessly taunted and humiliated her, I found it unrealistic that Tate would take it as she did. I can’t say I know what it’s like to be bullied per se, but what I CAN identify with is that if I saw this going on, I don’t know that I wouldn’t approach an authoritative figure-call me a narc, but I would hate to see an innocent girl go through what she did while I stood back and watched. Sure, I’ve had my fair share of nasty girls attempt to do their worst, but nothing to the extent of what I witnessed in this story. I think my biggest point is: while I thoroughly enjoyed this story, I didn’t get it and I didn’t find it believable. Why, because of one summer, does Jared feel the need to take it all out on Tate? What happened that could have caused such inexcusable and alarming actions towards a supposed best friend? I just couldn’t see how that would form such a ‘hatred’ towards someone he had considered himself close to-it didn’t make sense.

Jared indulged in my misery like it was candy. He fed me to the wolves time and again, reveling in the unhappiness he caused. Jared, my friend, was completely gone, leaving a cold monster in his place.

It IS, however, the most realistic ‘bullying’ story I’ve read to date, and ALSO, it was very low in the cheese factor, which shocked me. There really wasn’t any cheesy dialogue, and I can appreciate that. The bullying in most books tends to be catty and extremely unrealistic, which always turns me off. But in Bully, I enjoyed the dialogue and even Jared’s ferocious looks and dialect toward Tate. The whole time I read, I was like, ‘okay, sooooo she’s just going to end up forgiving him? How will that work? It’s going to be handled poorly, I just know it.’ But in all reality, the way Tate handled herself was not horrible and even believable, to an extent. Sure, she grew a backbone while away in France (essentially overnight in book standards), but when it came to the tough stuff, getting to the nitty gritty on why Jared became such an asshole, she didn’t just bend over and let him have it-she had residual and lasting feelings for him, sure, from the past, but she wasn’t just willing to forget everything he had done, and I respect that greatly.

My other fear was that I wouldn’t get why Jared all of a sudden cared again and how they could seamlessly become a couple at the end of it all. See? I had a lot of doubts. But the way everything transpired was okay with me and I ended up loving it. When things did start to turn around, I fell in love with Jared and I loved Tate’s crass attitude towards everyone and everything. It was refreshing to see her losing the ‘poor me’ act and attempting to move on with her life. What started as a question mark about the story turned into a certainty and I started to fall for the not-so-unexpected relationship and root for what they once lost.

”I want to touch you.” His words were against my lips now. “I want to feel what’s mine. What’s always been mine.”

A great story with a lot of fun as well as some tough topics, I think Bully is an extremely enjoyable read. I feel like I only voiced my concerns in this review, but what I attempted to do was show what I doubted I would like and express how much I really and truly did enjoy it. There WERE some unbelievable aspects, as I mentioned before, but the overall story was so enjoyable I didn’t much care. While it took me a while to finally decide to read this story, I’m glad I did. I will most likely read the story from his POV, and maybe then I will get an even better look at why Jared acted the way he did.

Yesterday lasts forever. Tomorrow comes never. Until you.
