Trusting him is the only way to save the kingdom.
Betraying her is the only way to keep them both alive.

Stripped of her memories and her magic, Raven has been left for dead.

As a prisoner in the enemy’s mineral mines, her only clue to who she is and where she came from is the mysterious map tattooed on her hand—a map containing hidden secrets that some people would kill for.

Jeddak is one of those people.

A warrior from the Kovak tribe, he’s hunting for the powerful Zavien stone to pay the corrupt king’s ransom. If he doesn’t return home with it by the new moon, his betrothed will be executed.

When Jeddak discovers that a prisoner named Raven has the only map that leads to the artifact, he allies with her as they navigate treacherous lands and battle against ancient magical forces to unravel the map’s secrets. But can Raven trust this stranger who’s helping her? If the map gets into the wrong hands, thousands of people will die.

As their feelings for each other grow, their tenuous alliance begins to fray. Until Jeddak is forced to make a decision—betray Raven or forsake his kingdom.

Choose wrong, and he’ll lose everything.

Review:

Lost Kingdom was a young adult fantasy that swept me away.  With secrets, lies, adventures, friendship, and betrayal, this book was a magical journey that was impossible to put down!  I loved learning about this new world.  The tribes, magic system, and politics were fascinating!  The characters felt so real.  And the story-line was so easy to devour.  With an extremely slow burn romance, this book will have you begging for more.

Suddenly, I didn’t feel so alone.

Raven was a prisoner in the mineral mines.  With no memory of her past, or even what tribe she belonged to, she was struggling just to survive another day.  The conditions she lived in were atrocious.  Then there was Jeddak, who was from the Kovak Tribe, and was in search of a stone to give to his king.  If he didn’t do that, his betrothed would be murdered.  And Raven had the only map that would lead them to the stone.  The story alternated between Raven and Jeddak, and I truly had no idea how it would all unfold.

No one would be punished except me if they found him dead now. At this point, I would gladly accept the consequences just to see him choke on his last breath.

Raven was so effortless to like.  She persevered in the face of atrocity.  Where she was used as nothing more than just another body to accomplish someone else’s goal, she was still brave and fearless.  She fought to stay alive.  But at the same time, she was so unsure of who to trust.  Her past was a blank slate.  So many that surrounded her kept her hidden from their true intent.  Yet through it all, she had this fire that burned deep inside her that pushed her along!

My breath caught. With his dark, wavy hair and long lashes, he was already strikingly handsome. But now the subtle dimples on his cheeks and the playful sparks in his gold-flecked eyes made me temporarily forget it was cold outside. He could rule a kingdom with that smile.

Jeddak, oh my goddess my feelings towards him kept twisting and turning.  I loved how he tried his best to protect Raven.  He was brave, smart, and I loved his relationship with his bear, Kah.  Btw Kah was not only the voice of reason, but I adored his sarcasm.  He cracked me up again and again!  So I kept wondering, who was going to protect Raven from Jeddak?  He was keeping secrets from her.  That entailed not only why he was helping her. But that he was betrothed.  Yet…..just wait….because once we get the full picture at the end of this story, my kaleidoscope of emotions towards Jeddak turned solid and became true and heartfelt.  I can’t say more without spoilers, other than it was a path to get there!

I felt the weight of one of his throwing knives in my hand. Like the sword from last night, it felt oddly familiar. Using a nearby tree as a target, I took aim at a small knot in the wood and let the knife fly.
The knifepoint hit the center of the knot.
My eyes went wide. Who am I?

Jeddak and Lila together will run you through the gamut of emotions.  They connected on such a deep level, but at the same point they kept each other at arm’s distance.  They kept secrets from one another.  But they also needed each other to survive and accomplish their goals.  It was a perilous journey every step of the way!  And there were unthinkable obstacles.  It’ll keep you on your toes wondering what’s going to happen next!  So watching even the tiniest bit of their friendship form had me smiling so huge!  Just try not to smile during the runes scene.

I studied his face, lit by the golden flames. Just a few days ago, he was a stranger. A liability I wanted to leave behind in the stables of Malengard. Now, he felt familiar. Safe. Even though I was in a foreign land, I felt like I’d found a small piece of home in him.

This story had so many twists and turns.  And while it felt fast paced, there were also so many deeper moments laced throughout the pages.  With foreshadowing, a possible deadly fate, and battles in the future, this book had so much story within these pages.  I am nervous for what’s to come and looking forward to that next book!  Especially because of Skyler.  I don’t know what that says about me, especially the feelings I have towards that character, and nope I’m not explaining anything more other than I am beyond obsessed!

Synopsis:

Jude Maddox knows nothing of love or even light. He knows only his grim duty as the Hand of Death, to lead the Knights of the Eternal Star into a land filled with nightmares and certain demise. It’s only when he sees her―a young woman with wild, amber eyes who’s as fierce, defiant, and swift as the shadow beasts themselves―that he feels the warmth of life in his blood…

The other Knights may fear their lethal commander, with his hard, merciless demeanor. Outcast Kiara Frey sees only a leader, a man who knows how to survive. Someone like her. But wanting him is as treacherous as the shadows themselves…and just as seductive.

With a kingdom on the verge of collapse, the Knights must now venture into the darkest heart of the land and uncover the secrets of the misted shadows, where evil will prey upon their minds and feast on their flesh.

It will betray their senses.
It will surpass their nightmares.
Most of them will die.

Review:

To Kill a Shadow was a young adult romantasy that was set in a dark and deadly world! Foreshadowing, death, angst, unthinkable choices, and creatures that were made from nightmares bled through the pages. So in a world that was surrounded in gloom and shadows, I loved that the romance was the lightness to not only this story, but to each of the characters too.

Fate might have brought me here, but from now on, I would be the one to choose my destiny.

Kiara Frey was a fierce and brave heroine that was so easy to connect with. Her thoughts were enjoyable and I loved how she stood up for others. She had no problems doling out violence and her courage landed her right in Jude Maddox’s sights. Jude was known as the Hand of Death and while he was out collecting boys to become the Knights of the Eternal Star, he ended up taking Kiara along too, instead of her brother. Their kingdom was up against so much unknown and it all led us on a wild ride!

“He smiles,” I teased, knowing I was poking the beast. I didn’t care. “And here I thought you would crack if you smiled. Shame.”
Jude caught his breath, eyeing me from beneath thick lashes . “You’d have liked that, wouldn’t you?”
“Immensely,” I answered, unable to keep the smile from widening on my own face.

Kiara and Jude were both my favorite characters in this story. Right away I loved how Jude was a complete mystery. He seemed like an assassin, worked for the crown, yet I had so many questions. When the darkness seemed to swallow him whole, he still had this kindness that would peak out at times for Kiara. Whether he was leaving something that would help her, or even just his words, each time he showed kindness it made me fall that much harder for him. And as we learned about his past, it was hard not to feel so much pain when it came to him. Jude was a tortured soul so many will fall for!

Ironic how the very man I once thought I despised now rendered me speechless.

There were so many moments that were memorable within this story. The bathing scene. The library. So many more I won’t even mention. Just know that their conversations were fun and smile inducing. There were also other characters in the story, and while I liked a few of them, I was greedy and only wanted Kiara and Jude. With adventure set out in front of them, or maybe it was even a death sentence, I was gripped to the pages to see what would happen next!

I didn’t think as I bolted, didn’t consider what I ran toward. There was only instinct and a desperate need to act.
To slay the darkness itself.

To Kill a Shadow was a young adult romantasy set in a blood thirsty world. While we are given clues as the story proceeded, so much was wrapped in mystery. And by that final page we were given so many answers, yet we were also left begging for more! I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next and will be reading the second book in this series.

“You say you’re a monster”— he dug deeper into the wound, and tears streaked my cheeks—“ but a monster didn’t rescue me, didn’t make me believe in hope again.”

Synopsis:

Eight years ago, Ethan and Rebecca met, two troublemaking kids sharing secrets and first kisses in a tree house, until Ethan’s mom returned to take him away. Each and every visit, his only goodbye was a flower on Rebecca’s windowsill.

Four years ago, Ethan left for the last time to take care of his mother, who has struggled with addiction his whole life.

Two years ago, Rebecca was in a car accident that killed her father. She’s been learning to navigate life as a wheelchair user ever since.

Now, they discover if their hardships have torn them apart…or will bring them closer than ever.

Review:

Every Time You Go Away was emotionally powerful and a story I won’t ever forget. It was laced with joy and heartache. And was not only about finding yourself, but of forgiveness, forging your own path, and repairing the pieces inside you and the relationships around you too. It is a must read for those that love young adult.

“You used to come every few months. Why didn’t you come back?” And then, in a smaller voice that bleeds with hurt, “Ethan, I waited for you.”

That first chapter was set in the past, and it pulled me right in.  The relationship Rebecca had with her parents as a little kid was complicated and also delicate. That summer while she was bored in her room, and her mom was working, she watched as a boy got dropped off at his grandparents’ house next door. His name was Ethan and his mom was leaving him. The first time of what would be many. Rebecca witnessed Ethan’s whole world explode. And this set the tone for the book. Each moment felt so real, like I was watching a movie. From there we got to alternate between Ethan and Rebecca in the present. With a few chapters in the past, scattered here and there. And our time with Ethan and Rebecca stole the breath from my lungs.

As suddenly as he’d shown up in my life, he’d be gone just as quickly.
And he never said goodbye.

When we jumped into the present, it had been years since Rebecca and Ethan had seen each other. And while they were hesitant at first, the core of their relationship was still there and strong. They had this unbreakable bond that was beautiful. Yet so much had changed. Ethan had grown, and seemed even more jaded. Rebecca was more withdrawn, yet she radiated this beautiful resilience and now used a wheelchair to get around. Both of their lives were so different since the last time they had seen each other years ago. So while they rekindled their friendship so easily, there were still moments were it felt like they were oceans apart from each other. And it left my heart aching.

It’s gonna hurt when I leave her. It’s already there, that feeling like I can’t take a deep enough breath, but what else can I do?

Ethan gutted me. His mother suffered from substance abuse, and he felt as though he had to fight her battles. To protect her from abusive boyfriends and keep her from overdosing. But over the years, his mom would send him to his grandparents. So she could temporarily fix herself. And yet again he found himself at his grandparents’ house. I loved how careful they were around him. How much they wanted to help, even though Ethan wanted no part of it. Ethan was strong willed, determined, and had such a huge heart. I hoped they would help him when his world exploded again. But then there was also Rebecca. And she too was someone who was always there for him too.

I lift a hand from the pool and watch water drip back down into tiny, dissipating ripples on the surface, then let my hand drop with a much more satisfying splash. “I never used to feel like I was just watching my life go by, but that’s all I do now. I barely make ripples, let alone a splash.”

Rebecca’s relationship with her mom hurt. Her mom could be so cold and distant, and she always seemed to keep Rebecca at arm’s length since the accident. Well, if she was even around. The accident had killed Rebecca’s father and she was now in a wheelchair learning to navigate her new world. So it pained me to hear Rebecca’s thoughts about her mom. How she just wanted to have her mom show she cared about her. It cut so deep. And while Ethan was Rebecca’s best friend, she also struggled with him too. He was who she confided in, had fun with, and could simply just be. Yet he proved time and again that he could be gone in the blink of an eye. When his mom came back, he left. So opening to him, since her life had changed so much, was hard. How can you let your whole soul be shown to someone who could just disappear from your life that next day?

He inhales deeply and holds my gaze like a lifeline. “I know better than most people that the real scars, the deep ones, are always on the inside.”
His words pierce through me like an arrow, right where I never want anyone to see. I feel my eyes threaten to well up but blinking fast will only betray that fact, so I try and brush his words -his stare – off.

Rebecca and Ethan both had so much on their shoulders. And they both scarified pieces of themselves, because of others. It was important for them to please others, to make their lives easier. Yet it was at the expense of themselves, and what they wanted. So I loved watching them both grow from that first page to the last. That they both needed to figure out how to fight for what they wanted in life. Because I knew that whenever that happened, I would be so proud of them! I also loved the lighter moments too. That those were filled with laughter and smiles. We got to watch how deeply they cared for one another. And while their transition from friends to more was extremely slow burn, the sexual tension between them was done so well. You could feel it all the way through this story.

“You always acted like you were glad when she came back,” she says softly.
“Yeah, I was. ‘Cause she always came back clean. But I never wanted to go with her. I wanted her to stay with me.” I look away. It feels cowardly but I can’t stare at her face when I add, “So I could stay with you.”

This story ended with beautiful conversations, growth, hope, and finding your happiness. I loved seeing paths open for both of them. Yet, Rebecca and Ethan’s story was extremely emotional and made me cry multiple times. And there were two different twists that I didn’t see coming, they knocked me to the ground. So if you’re looking for a young adult story that is character driven and focuses on personal growth and friendship, then this is your book! While there was romance, it just took a little longer to get there then I’m used to. But it made my heart happy. I closed this book smiling and I can’t wait to discover more books by Abigail Johnson! She is an extremely powerful writer that will invoke all of your emotions.  It was impossible to put down this book!

Synopsis:

The second I stepped through the doors of Gray Wolf Academy, my world disintegrated. Here, time is malleable. It can be manipulated, shifted. Changed. And for those of us who Trip—or travel through time—the possibilities are infinite and perilous.

Now my life is caught in the secrets of everyone around me. Arthur, the eccentric billionaire who rules this school. Killian, who could be the only honest person here…or the biggest liar. And Braxton, magnetic, gorgeous, and unfathomable. The only thing I trust about him is our electric connection.

Whether we’re Tripping through Renaissance Italy or thieving from a ball in Regency England, my life’s become a web of lies and strange truths. And beneath the surface is an elaborate puzzle, filled with cryptic symbols and priceless treasures scattered across history—all somehow connected to my strange ability to see through time.

But Arthur has a dangerously ambitious agenda. And if what my dad taught me is true, I’m not just a threat to everyone at Gray Wolf.

…I’m a threat to time itself.

The Stealing Infinity series is best enjoyed in order.
Reading Order:
Book #1 Stealing Infinity
Book #2 Ruling Destiny

Review:

All of us at Gray Wolf— including Braxton, and certainly me— we are all liars here.

Ruling Destiny was a fast paced romantasy with a love triangle that will keep you on your toes! With so many answers swirling within the pages, I loved how that ending left us desperately needing that next book now! And with short chapters, it was easy to keep entertained, and always needing to know what happened next.

“So, which is it?” I snap. “Are you angry or worried?”
Killian loosens his grip. “Can’t I be both?” His voice is thick in a way that has me averting my gaze. “If something were to happen to you—”
“Arthur would never forgive you. I know.” I grind out the words.
“No, Shiv,” Killian says, looking at me in a way I’d rather not see. “It’s me who’d never forgive myself.”

The two love interests Killian and Braxton left me constantly guessing. Was Killian truly bad or just acting paranoid around Baxton because he couldn’t trust him? Or where we supposed to think that Braxton was the one we shouldn’t trust? Both of these men kept us and Natasha in the dark. Over what truly happened in their pasts and other aspects about them too. The things we learned, oh my goodness! I almost felt like it was Shatter Me all over again. I always chose the right person in love triangles, except for that series. BUT I’m still holding out hope and doubling down, which may go epically wrong haha. I’m hoping a certain someone will redeem themselves. Because Natasha and that one, oh my heart. They are the WHOLE story for me! The emotions he created within her, even if she wanted to deny them. I feel everything when they were together. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed for that final book.  That things will flip around, because I love him so much *cries*! Yes there was so much more going on then the romance, but for me that was everything.

Without hesitation, Killian presses a hand to his heart and, in a solemn voice, says, “I swear to you, Shiv. I swear on the moon to every last word.”

Natasha did such a fabulous job of growing within these pages. While at times I thought she might be naïve, looking back she definitely wasn’t. She used her instincts beautifully. It was hard not to be impressed with her. Although her bravery definitely scared me a few times. And as her world expanded, I loved learning more about those that surrounded her. And her world. Ohhhhhh what we learned, it was mind boggling. I didn’t even think about those certain aspects. I was completely interested in learning more. So with drama, romance and stealing pieces from the past while trying to put clues together, this book was a magical ride!

Synopsis:

Bookworm (buk-werm): Someone who loves books, reading, and/or studying. For reference, see Charlotte Kent.

Seventeen-year-old Charlotte Kent likes happy endings. Not that she's looking for one herself. Awkward, never been kissed, and bookish to the core, Lottie would rather read about love than experience it.

But she enjoys helping others find their HEA in books.

Lottie loves working at the library…even if it means running into Bo Stryker.

Broody, athletic, and unfairly attractive when he frowns, Bo works at the flower shop across the street. Lottie is about to get rejected…when surprisingly, Bo steps in, pretends to be her boyfriend, and steals her first kiss.

One viral video later, everyone thinks they're together.

Bo wants to keep pretending. Lottie wants to make amends—long story short: she was on a ladder; he startled her; the book slap was an accident.

A fake relationship may be the solution. But as they grow closer, Lottie can't help falling for Bo—which is a disaster because grumpy sunshine only works in fiction…right?

This book features two opposites with undeniable chemistry, one lovable librarian, so many stolen kisses and answers the question:

What happens when a nerd falls for the grump-next-door?

Review:

Reading never failed me. Unlike people, books were reliable; they always provided a welcome escape.
And I needed that now.

Bookworm was an adorable, feel good romance that will keep you smiling from that first page to the last!  With grumpy sunshine mixed with fake dating, it was impossible not to fall in love with this story.  The characters leapt from the pages, the storyline made it impossible to put down and this book easily landed on my favorites list!  This story was not only laugh out loud hilarious but it was filled with heart and so much charm too!  If you love young adult romance, you definitely need this book in your life!

“I make you nervous,” he said.
“One hundred percent,” I said back. There was no use lying. My cheeks were starting to hurt I was smiling so hard.
Bo, on the other hand, looked like he was gritting his teeth.

Bo Stryker worked at the flower shop across the street from the library where Charlotte Kent volunteered.  When Bo stepped in, and saved Charlotte from an embarrassing situation, he stole her first kiss.  And that kiss went viral.  That moment was swoon worthy, sigh worthy, and had me absolutely obsessed!  What followed was a beautiful journey filled with opposites attracts, friendship, first love, bookcussions and fabulous banter!  And I have to say that I didn’t read the synopsis close enough because when I got to their last names I was screaming out loud!  I couldn’t wait to see how this was tied to her other books.  But don’t worry, you don’t have to read any other story before jumping into this one.

Bo didn’t want to talk about The Kiss.
He wanted to pretend as if it never happened.
I could do that.
I could.
Even if he was my first.
Even if I could still feel the press of his mouth against mine.

Charlotte cracked me up and is one of my favorite heroines!   I loved how honest and forthcoming she was.  Her thoughts made me feel connected to her.  And I loved how she helped others find happiness in a book and also had no qualms about spying on others.  But what I loved most of all, was how she could make Bo feelCharlotte could be such a ray of sunshine to Bo’s grumpy clouds.  And the moment she could get him to smile or react had me glued to the pages.  So while it was beautiful watching their friendship progress, I was shocked that Charlotte didn’t believe in HEAs….outside of a book.  That hurt my heart.  I kept my fingers crossed that Bo could get her to have a change of heart, even if they were only fake dating.

“I thought you hated having me around,” I admitted.
“I don’t.”
“You even told me how much you hate people.”
“Not you,” he said.
My heart skipped a beat.
“I could never hate you, Kent.”

Bo was the star soccer player at his high school who had a perpetual frown on his face.  He was given the nickname iceman because of his stellar personality haha.  But when he was around Charlotte, we got tiny glimpses of who Bo was underneath it all.  We got to see that he was capable of feeling.  And if we paid close enough attention to his words, it seemed like he felt more towards Charlotte.  Bo is my favorite type of a character, where you have to look for hints and clues to figure out how they feel and who they truly are.  Because they guard their emotions and their thoughts with their whole body and soul.  So when Bo would mess with Charlotte, awww it was like the clouds parted from the skies.  And that led to the most delicious banter ever!

Taking my hand, he placed a kiss on my thumb, removing the leftover sugar with a brief but devastating brush of his tongue. I couldn’t have spoken then even if I’d wanted to.

The fake dating in this story unfolded so brilliantly, and there quite a few moments that made my toes curl while sighing out loud.  And besides Bo and Charlotte, my favorite side character was Charlotte’s sister, Scar.  I would love for Scar to get her own book *fingers crossed*!  Plus it was so much fun seeing characters from quite a few of Cookie’s previous books!  So with a list of suitors, flower deliveries, the cinnamon roll, soccer games, lunch moments, and kisses in a library, this book was so fabulous!  With a fun and flirty vibe, Bookworm was so easy to fall head over heels in love with!  And this is one of those stories where you just can’t stop smiling all the way through.  It’s happiness in a book!  And you definitely need this happiness in your life!

As a bookworm, I’d read tons of romance novels with countless happily-ever-afters. I would read a ton more.
And I knew our book would always be my favorite.
