Synopsis:

Julia Hughes has always played it safe until she learned a very painful lesson. Now Julia’s starting over with a job in the Louisiana bayou, working for the infamous de Vincent family, the massively wealthy brothers who are haunted by a dark reputation and whispers of misdeeds. Hired to care for their troubled sister, Julia can't afford any distractions, but the menacing presence in the mansion and the ever-present temptation of the handsome Lucian de Vincent isn't something anyone can ignore.

Julia knows better than to get wrapped up in Lucian. He’s from a world she can’t relate to. Plus, he’s her employer. But his wicked touch and sensual promises are too much deny. What starts with a kiss ends with so much more.

Lucian is the youngest brother—the wildest, most unpredictable one. He’s the unrepentant bachelor of the family, known for his escapades in and out of the bedroom, and he wants Julia. There’s something about her that makes Lucian want to lay himself bare, but some secrets are better left buried, right along with a past that could not only bring down a dynasty but destroy Julia in the process.

Review:

Moonlight Sins slowly ensnared me in its web of games.  It was sexy, twisted, suspenseful, charismatic and I devoured this book in one day.  It refused to be put down.  Mystery filled the pages and I loved that the characters all felt so much larger than life!  So when I closed that last page I was thankful that there would be two more books about the other brothers.  There was no way I was ready to say goodbye to all of these characters that captured my heart.

His breath now danced over her ear. “I don’t know why you’re resisting this. I know you want me just as badly as I want you.”
She did. Oh God, she did.
Her eyes closed.
It was official.
Julia was already in over her head when it came to Lucian de Vincent and she wasn’t coming up for air anytime soon.

Right from the start I liked Julia Hughes.  She was fiery, smart and she didn’t have any problems standing up for herself.  She was also kind hearted and such an honest person.  When we stepped into her life, she was in the process of leaving everything behind.  Her job, home and friends, all for a fresh start. It was definitely needed since Julia had some shadows in her closet.  Yet when she arrived at her new job, it was unlike anything she ever could have imagined.

Her lips parted as her body flashed hot, really hot, and then cold. “Is there literally anything you can’t make sound sexual?”
“No. It’s like a superpower of mine.”
Her eyes narrowed.
Lucian smiled.

Julia discovered that she’d be caring for Maddie de Vincent.  The de Vincent’s are notorious and one of the wealthiest families in the US.  And each of Maddie’s three brothers had a dark reputation. Julia found herself stepping into a world filled with mystery, luxury, curses and so much more.  Thankfully we alternated between Julia and Maddie’s twin Lucien.  And while I loved Julia, hearing every single honest thought from Lucien sent me into a tailspin.

“I’m not just screwed up, Ms. Hughes. I’m as broken as they come, but I don’t need to be fixed. I don’t want to be fixed.” He caged her in. “I like all my fucked-up shards and pieces. They make me who I am. They make me real. The question is, can you handle real?”

Lucien de Vincent was sexy, charismatic, loved to be in control and was off the charts scorching hot.  Whether it was his looks, to the way he walked and even the words that came out of his mouth, everything he did was seductive.  So if you love alpha playboys then you definitely have to meet Lucien. But Lucien loved his twin with his whole heart, I loved seeing that side of him.  And while he had a vested interest in who would be caring for Maddie, he crossed the line with Julia. Oh man did he cross the line! But I loved the first time he did it and every single time after that!

“Had a moment?” she whispered, and then yanked her hand free. She lifted her chin. “It was barely a moment.”
A surprised laugh almost escaped him as he stared down at her. Damn. He liked that. He liked
her. He was smart enough to keep his expression blank, because at least she wasn’t trying to grab her purse and storm out.

Julia and Lucien played such a sexy game.  She was drawn to him, but he was her boss. And while he was drawn to her, he was never with the same woman twice.  But Julia continually stood up and challenged Lucien. She was unlike anyone he’d ever met before. Which seemed to fuel his want for her.  But there was no way they could ignore that anytime they were together the sexual tension and fun banter was off the charts! It all just added to the list of reasons why this book was impossible to put down!

Julia’s hips tipped back, into his, and she bit down on her lip at the sound of his deep, throaty growl.
God, she never heard a man make that sound before. Not like that. Not like he was about to devour her.

There is so much more I want to say, especially about that sexy beginning, those mysterious footsteps and the fact that it felt as though there were hints of paranormal elements in the house and even with the brothers.  But so much of this tale is shrouded in mystery, so my lips are zipped.  And it was a lot fun to watch as everything slowly unfolded while we got little clues here and there.  While I guessed two of the main mysteries, it definitely didn’t take away from my enjoyment. I found myself always second guessing my thoughts, because there were so many different ways it could all play out.  So hang on, because you’re going to be on one crazy ride. Now I can’t wait to start the second book in this series, Moonlight Seduction. It’s about Lucien’s brother Gabe, and I’m excited to step back into this gothic feeling series!

Welcome Post: Say hello to my dearest friend, Cassie!

I am SO beyond honored to be introducing one of my ‘REAL LIFE’ best friends in the whole world to the blog-Cassie!

It’s so funny to think that Cassie and I met randomly at a spin class we both went to after work-only TWICE a week! We sat on total opposite sides of the room from one another, which just goes to show you how big of a loud mouth I am (and apparently she is, too, since here we are today lol). One day I randomly yelled something across the room to her (she seemed nice enough?) and she smiled and yelled right back…while everyone else stared at us. Losers didn’t know what they were missing out on 😉. Not the most lively group, they weren’t.

After class we met up and decided to sit together for the next class-and so it began. The next time we got to class-somehow, and I’ve no clue how-the conversation of books came up. I’m almost positive it went like this:

Cassie: Yadda yadda yadda and finished up a book I’m reading

Chelsea:

WHAT BOOK

Cassie: Red Queen?

Chelsea: FHSDFSDJFKSDFDHSFJDHSFHDSKJFHDSF HKDJSHFJKSDHFSDFJKSDHJFHDSKJFHDJ KSHFKDSHFKJDSHFKJDHSKJFHD SKJFHSDKJFHKJSDHFJKDSHKJHFKJSHFKJ
DO YOU LIKE CAL?!

Cassie: No. I don’t like Cal-I LOVE HIM!

……..

Chelsea: ……..
And Maven?

Cassie: Nah, I just don’t understand why people are so obsessed with him!

And the rest was history.

I soon learned she’s a thriller book junkie (yikes) and that she loved some of the same YA fantasy books that I did, and that she loved recommendations. Since then we’ve bonded over books, book boys, and whining about our husbands together. And, really, what else do you need? I hope you all grow to adore her just like I do!

Better yet? NO MAVEN LOVIN’ THERE! Muahahaha

Here’s what Cassie has to say about herself ♥

Hi! I’m Cassie and I’m a dog and cat mom and wife to my wonderful husband. I’m from the United States but love to travel for both work and leisure. I’m a pop music junkie (late 90’s/early 2000’s preferably) and enjoy Netflix-binging and putting my MoviePass card to work. I love diet coke, chapstick, cruelty-free beauty and listening to true crime podcasts (hello Murderinos!)

But I also LOVE to read. I always have, but these past two years I have been obsessed. My favorite genres are mystery/thrillers and young adult. I will read books outside these genres (I’m a sucker for a good celebrity memoir or GOOD contemporary romance), but I just drawn to these two genres the most. A common theme in my favorite books is a strong female lead character. She absolutely can have flaws (I encourage it!) and struggle and make wrong choices, but as long as she can ultimately persevere and learn from the past, I’m a happy gal. A good romance to go with it doesn’t hurt either, especially of the slow burn or hate-to-love variety. I’m ok with a good love triangle, but keep any kind of insta-love away from me.
I’m so thankful for this opportunity to join these wonderful women at the Star-Crossed Book Blog. I’ve been a follower of theirs for awhile now and am so excited to join this amazing team and share my love for all things books. My favorite authors are Victoria Aveyard, Gillian Flynn, Megan Abbot, Lauren Oliver, Megan Miranda and V.E. Schwab to name just a few!

Synopsis:

His Bodyguard. His Love.

Maverick, know-it-all bodyguard Farrow Keene knows publicly dating American royalty comes with a great cost. Everyone wants a piece of their relationship. And as a protective boyfriend, he’s not here for the malicious hands that grab at their love life and seek to rip them apart.

But Farrow is confident — he’s confident that he could’ve never prepared for the storm to come.

Keep him safe.

Maximoff Hale isn’t a big fan of change. And to regain the charity CEO position he lost, he agrees to a task that he’s always rejected. One that could uproot his unconventional world.

But Maximoff is afraid — he’s afraid of the consequences that could destroy his boyfriend and his family.

Keep him safe.

Changes are on the horizon.
Big.
Messy.
Complicated.
Changes.

Maximoff & Farrow will fight for their forever. And with every breath, they promise that their love story won’t end here.

The Like Us series is a true series, one continuous timeline, that follows a family of wealthy celebrities and the people that protect them. You must read Books 1 and 2 before reading Alphas Like Us.

Tears scald our eyes, and we breathe and breathe, and I whisper, “You know, my heart is in your hand.”

Another great book by the twins about love, family, and of course, drama. By now I feel fully immersed in the lives of the Hales, Cobalts, and Meadows–enough so that they could be real people that I’m old friends with. That is by far my favorite thing about all of these books. My family has always been super important to me so I have ALWAYS loved reading books/ series that feature characters that find family (whether they be blood or not) to be important. Maximoff in particular is a prime example of this. He would literally die to protect any one of his siblings, cousins, OR friends. Ugh it’s almost hard to read about at times because not only does he have to deal with his own stress and shit but he basically is an empath and feels everyone else’s pain and emotions whether he likes to or not. He is the definition of a precious (but also sexy AF) cinnamon roll that must be protected at all costs. He is too good for this world, really. I would love to have him in my family.

If he says you’re “good people”—he’ll surround himself around you, and you’ll be glad. Because he’s the kind of man who puts his whole soul into what he loves, and if he loves you, goddamn.

I think this is my favorite book in this series. We finally get to see Moffy and Farrow in a “regular” relationship without having to hide it in any way. They can be themselves and go on dates, even if they aren’t always successful due to the ahole paparazzi. The reason I think I like this book the best is because the two come to terms (more on Moffy’s end I guess) with the fact that they are in fact “it” for each other. Before Farrow, Moffy never considered that he might actually find someone that he could trust and then subsequently love enough to be with forever, marry, have kids, the whole deal. And being a person like Moffy who is just BRIMMING with pure love, I can see how that could have been so horrible. Loren and Lily may not be perfect as individuals or even as parents but you can bet that their love for each other and their kids was something that Moffy grew up seeing and wanting for himself. I just am SO FREAKING HAPPY that they will get their happy ending *sighhh*.

But he brings me this effortless joy, and I cling onto that for dear fucking life.

Another aspect of this book that I enjoyed was getting to learn more about Farrow. We got to learn more about his time as a resident, why he quit, and how he really felt about all of it. Part of me was initially annoyed about how things turned out in this book in regards to that stuff but I eventually got over it. Farrow came to terms with what he truly wanted and so I was able to, too. He managed to get everything he wanted and boy was I happy for him. Very satisfying “ending” to their trilogy (though the twins have said they would be interested in doing more—woo!).

And goddamn, we’re both smiling.

I have to say I love getting to know each bodyguard even more, too. I am DYINGGGGGGGG for the book(s) featuring Jane and Thatcher. OMG those are going to be steamy AF I just know it. If you haven’t looked at their Pinterest boards yet, I would recommend it. They constantly post things for each character and the posts for these two…*fans myself*. I also love that Thatcher’s had a bunch of cats lol. Big, strong, serious man looking out for Janie’s kitties. Wowwowwowwow. ♥ Overall I recommend, recommend, recommend. Read them all from the very beginning if you haven’t already. They may not all be easy to read (especially Loren and Lily’s books) but to me, it’s so worth it.

Synopsis:

They say everyone’s a superhero to someone. I’m not sure who I’m supposed to save, but I know who saved me.

We were kids. His name was Christopher. And up until the day he pulled me from death’s grip, he was nothing more than a boy I felt sorry for. In a blink of an eye, he became the only person who made me feel safe.

And then he disappeared.

Now I’m seventeen. I’m not a kid anymore. I haven’t been for years. While death didn’t take me that day, the things that happened left me with scars—the kind that robbed me of everything I once loved and drove me into darkness. But more than anything else, that day—and every day since—has taken away my desire to dream.

I wasn’t going to have hope. I wouldn’t let myself wish. Those things—they weren’t for girls like me. That’s what I believed…until the new boy.

He’s nothing like the old boy. He’s taller and older. His hair is longer, and his body is lean—strong and ready for anything. I don’t feel sorry for him. And sometimes, I hate him. He challenges me. From the moment I first saw him standing there on the baseball field, he pushed me—his eyes constantly questioning, doubting…daring. Still, something about him—it feels…familiar.

He says his name is Wes. But I can’t help but feel like he’s someone else. Someone from my past. Someone who’s come back to save me.

This time, though, he’s too late. Josselyn Winters, the girl he once knew, is gone. I am the threat; I am my worst enemy. And he can’t save me from myself.

Review:

A Boy Like You was an extremely emotional story.  It was filled with heartache, struggles, alcoholism and strained relationships.  But there was also friendship, hope, courage, happiness and the possibility of love.  This was my first Ginger Scott book and I came to realize that her writing touches my heart.  I couldn’t help but be moved by this story.  So I’ll definitely be picking up more books by Ginger Scott!

He holds me until all of the other kids go home.
He holds me until the police arrive.
He holds me until I tell him it’s okay to let go.
And then he disappears.
For good.

The prologue pulled me in right from the beginning.  We got to watch who Josselyn Winters, aka Joss, use to be as a child.  It was the moments before her whole world exploded. We met her best friend Taryn, the Marley twins and the kid Christopher who ended up saving her life and then never came back to school.  We also watched the demise of her parents marriage. I found myself completely addicted and it was a fabulous way to start this book. Then chapter one jumps eight years later and my heart broke with how Joss’ life had turned out.

I step closer, until my front touches his back, and Wes pauses when our bodies meet. He sighs, and I lean my head against him, feeling both mortified and turned on from this touch.
“I’m so sorry,” I squeak out, feeling his body rise and fall with his long breath.
“You’re a beautiful girl. Don’t be sorry,” he says, his head tilted to the side enough that I am given the gift of looking at the line of his jaw and chin. His eyes glance over his shoulder and meet mine briefly before he inhales once more and leads me through the door while I replay what he said over and over.
Beautiful girl.

If the prologue pulled me in, then that first chapter sealed the deal.  There was a baseball scene that showed me in a way how this story would be written.  You see, the author’s way of writing tension in such a normal setting was beyond addicting.  I completely devoured it.  Yeah it made some of the scenes, and even the story, longer.  But it worked for me and I was completely mesmerized.

The familiar feeling is gone quickly, but it leaves a trace of something behind. A memory. Wes Stokes has been here before. My chest constricts as I glance to the place in my front lawn a few yards behind me, the place where a boy once saved my life, and I live in that memory for a few long seconds before shelving it again—burying it back under everything I’ve promised myself to forget.

So Joss and her best friend Taryn met the Stokes brothers.  Wes, TK and Levi. And I loved how the five of them formed a friendship so easily.  But there was something about Wes that felt familiar to Joss. She swore that he was or at least reminded her of the boy who saved her life all of those years ago.  Christopher.  We got little clues here and there, along with another type of an element, and I was glued to the pages trying to figure out how it was all going to unfold.

He’s caught between being my savior and being my seducer, and right now, I don’t need saving—I need his touch.

Just like the story, Wes captured my heart from the beginning.  He was mysterious and quiet at times but his actions and even eyes spoke volumes.  And then when he did talk, oh my, he had my emotions in a mess. I loved him entirely.  Not only was he a gentleman, thoughtful and caring, but he could be seductive without even trying.  Wes made my heart race easily and often. Especially when he was being protective of Joss.

“I can’t save you from you, Joss. Please…give up.” – Wes

Joss on the other hand could be difficult to love.  She was her own worst enemy and she didn’t make the best decisions in life.  And even though Wes was patient with Joss, you could feel that he didn’t agree with what she was doing at times.  But underneath it all, I saw a girl worth loving. And I kept hoping that she would try to make the right choices for herself.  That she would turn it all around. Joss definitely owed it to herself after the life she had been dealt.

I give in, and I step into him, letting my forehead press deep into the center of his chest as I bring my limp arms around him, my fingers gripping the fabric of his shirt on the back. His chin slowly falls to the top of my head and his own arms circle me tentatively at first, until finally they lock around me, his palms sliding in slow tender circles along my skin. I’m overcome with his strength and the feel of his embrace, and I do something that I regret the moment it starts.
I cry.

You see, after Joss’ mom left them, her dad became a shadow of himself and turned into an alcoholic.  There were many scenes between Joss and her dad that either had me with tears in my eyes or sobbing.  He could be so horrific and mean to her.  Even while she was trying to take care of her dad who was drunk.  And those drunken moments took me back to my teen years. To one of my best friends whose situation was very different, but they still dealt with a parent who was drunk every night.  Those moments gutted me and reminded me of so many countless scenes I saw with my own eyes. But it was not all darkness, because Joss started to realize that she now had Wes in her life.  And maybe, just maybe she could have the life she always wanted. But heaven help Joss because she had to go through hell.  I never thought the book would go where it went, so hold on because it was an extremely emotional ride.

I’m so very lost to this boy, it isn’t even funny. I’ve given over my control, and as much as it scares the shit out of me, I’m more afraid of missing out on him—anything with him.

There were so many others that I adored.  I loved Wes’ brothers, TK and Levi. I adored Joss’ friends Taryn and even Kyle.  But Kyle ripped out my heart again and again. He had some struggles too, like Joss, and I could read a whole book just about him!  This book was the first in a duology and while it stopped at a great spot, I was definitely filled with the urge that I have to know what happens next!  So if you find yourself pulled in by YA stories that are on the more emotional side, but are also filled with hope, then definitely give A Boy Like You a try!

Synopsis:

There is a rule amongst his kind: A jester doesn’t lie.

In the Kingdom of Spring, Poet is renowned. He’s young and pretty, a lover of men and women. He performs for the court, kisses like a scoundrel, and mocks with a silver tongue.

Yet allow him this: It’s only the most cunning, most manipulative soul who can play the fool.

For Poet guards a secret.

One the Crown would shackle him for. One that he’ll risk everything to protect.

Alas, it will take more than clever words to deceive Princess Briar.

Convinced that he’s juggling lies as well as verse, this righteous nuisance of a girl is determined to expose him.

But not all falsehoods are fiendish. Poet’s secret is delicate, binding the jester to the princess in an unlikely alliance—and kindling a breathless attraction, as alluring as it is forbidden.

*Mature young adult/new adult: sexual content and language. For readers 17 and older.*

“Steadfast sure girl, sweet noble thorn,
how lovely-cruel you are.
My body’s taut, my soul is worn,
from the lovely-cruel you are.
The highborn chose the lowest born,
’tis the lovely-cruel you are.
This trick unseen, this fated scorn,
of the lovely-cruel you are.
So when you leave, I shall us mourn,
the lovely-cruel we are.”

What is there to say, really, when you fall head over heels for a book that you didn’t even realize existed??? I picked this up after my friend told me she was sure I’d love it. Was I skeptical? No, not really. Do I trust this person? Absolutely. Was there any doubt I’d love this? Not in the least.

Yet, here we are, and me telling you that, at the beginning…I really didn’t care for this book at all. I liked the opening chapter-it was loud, alluring…mesmerizing. It grabbed onto me with just the short little bit it was. But, once I poured deeper into the story, long after the wicked words our Jester boasted and hooked me line and sinker with, I grew weary. And, frankly, distant. Not because I didn’t love what was going on-I did, truly. But his manner of speech waxed way too poetic (HAR) for me to really grip my claws into his character and see what he was really about.

Tumble inspected me with beady-eyed criticism.
“What?” I asked. “Does my masterpiece clash too much?”
The ferret squeaked.
“Certainly, but you try making the four kingdoms harmonize into one motif.”
He squeaked again.

It felt like a front. It felt like, even as the readers who got to be inside his head every other/few chapters, were held at an arm’s length-and I didn’t like it. Because, in the rare moments he and the princess got together, I felt like they were wasted with the precious breath being tainted by rhymes and riddles and regal-type talk. And, ultimately, I began to disengage and became disappointed. I mean, it felt like it was all smoke and mirrors. Little did I know-that was the whole point.

Whether all of it was intentional or not, I’ll never know. But, riddle me this (muahaha Poet has stolen my heart!)-why is it that, after a certain point in this book (and, really, despite what I said earlier, it wasn’t that far in) literally everything changed because of one moment?

Yet none of these skills can steel the heart, nor protect it from breaking. Recently, I’ve learned that lesson well. So let me tell you a tale of how I lost a battle of wills.
Not to my King. Not to my Queen.
Nay. I lost to a girl.

Enchanting doesn’t even BEGIN to describe the way I felt after…things…but that’s exactly how I felt: enchanted. Poet ripped off his mask, or his makeup, mind you, and we saw beneath the carefully placed veneer he’d built up so no one would see what was underneath.

“My opinion? A fool is a man who believes glory can be found at the tip of a sword instead of on the tip of his tongue. ’Tis a woman who judges with her eyes closed. ’Tis people who invent aberrations from speculation and rumors. ’Tis bred from ignorance. That is life’s cruel trick.”

I think it worth mentioning that, while I had briefly skimmed the synopsis after Britt told me to read this, I really hadn’t read it thoroughly once I’d finished the book I was on, and purchased the kindle book sight unseen. If you can’t have trust in your closest friends, who can you trust? As I mentioned, though, this might be the reason as to why I was so easily fooled by the, well, Fool.

I’m the finest jest you’ll ever know. If you irritate me, I’ll best you with words, for swords are the toys of knights, whilst I use more creative weapons.

My heart melted at the Poet beneath. I became a puddle of goo and a swarm of butterflies all mixed into one, making for a totally weird concoction I can’t begin to fathom a name for. I kid you not, this was like a
totally different book
…because we saw what made Poet tick-and so did the Princess.

“No, of course. But that day when we arrived home, you imitated those jesters for hours, twirling from rock to rock in the grass. And when you fell—”
“I stumbled.”
“—and scraped yourself raw, I never saw the like when I dabbed a wet cloth on your knees. You howled bloody murder.”
My elbow hit the table as I pointed at her. “That part never happened.”

She saw the side to him that had only been hinted at, from the beginning. She saw how kind and wonderful, sweet and brave he was. She saw the loyalty and devotion and determination that ran rivers deep in Poet’s fractured and frantic soul-and so the forbidden tryst began.

I couldn’t say whether Mother was still talking. As we crossed into his line of vision, Poet became aware of me and tensed, his shoulder blades locking.
The crease of his spine. The waist that tapered and then rounded into a solid backside.
Anticipation flared. But he kept advising the girl, sparing me not a glance.
Not until the distance between us grew again.
We craned our heads over our shoulders, our eyes smoldering.

I’ll admit I became a total ninny for everything Poet and Briar henceforth-They were the puppet masters and I their puppet, strung along by the strings of their sordid and heartbreaking affair. I rooted for them with every ounce of my being-even as I wished for the turmoil that was surely to come.

“And don’t think I believe that drivel about you and Poet. You hate each other, you say? Hate is a miserable thing. That’s neither of you. He’s an active lad, born with a voice to spice tarts, but those tarts never made him blush. That isn’t hate, so have a care.”

WHAT. I’m a hot-blooded, fangirling bookish female-fine and dandy just don’t DO IT FOR ME. Anymore, that is. Whatever. I needed some strife, and strife I got. It was wonderful and sordid (yes, repeat repeat wah wah) and hot and wrong-the chemistry set the pages on fire and my heart right along with them.

I nodded to her. Let me do the lying.
She looked away. Good girl.
Bad boy. I still wanted to kiss her.

And when Poet crumbled-my heart and soul did, as well. I just-I truly loved this story and I’m wholly invested in everything to do with it. I’ll admit I’m shocked more people haven’t latched onto this-it really is a remarkable story with a storybook feel (a dirty storybook, I’ll have you:

My damp, thickened breath. A thrust of heavy-lidded lightning. A deep-rooted, thigh-clenching ache in intimate places.

) and a fairytale vibe. The writing was impeccable and the length not too long nor too short, with a gradual build up that makes you beg for more and simultaneously yearn for it to never end, and a climax that tears at your very being.

“The greatest courage a person can have is to love another, for there are only two outcomes. Either the love lasts, and our lives are compromised, or it doesn’t, and our lives are emptied. Either way, we suffer more than we celebrate. I’ve enjoyed suffering with you. We are a tale for campfires. That is all. That is everything.”

Again, I don’t praise many books highly. In fact, there are only 4-6 books out of the 20 or so I’ve read this year that really and truly stand out, and this is, by far, one of them-and one of the best. I have high standards and have read some of my favorite books of all time in the last couple of months-and this one?? This one helped me escape my rabid obsession with two of them-the likes of which have made me a total moron who harasses everyone to read them. This book wouldn’t have had half the heart without Poet’s secret, a secret I normally am not a fan of in books. So… it must have been done well, right? And this story is so much deeper than a romance, which shocked me. It actually had wonderful morals and heart and a depth so intense it stole my breath. Vehemently represented by those with most stake in the matter, this author showed an amazing skill to write about more than just smexy encounters, hidden hallway rendezvous, and stolen looks and touches-though, those were some of my favorite parts ;). Friendship and family and loyalties and learning your place in life-it’s all there. And it’s all wonderfully handled.

A fool is a man who sees his worth in a mirror, in the faces of a crowd, but is blind to it elsewhere. Where it most counts: in the eyes of those he loves and who love him. Don’t insult yourself that way.”

So, give it a try. Really. It’s fun and flirty and romantic and original and tugs on your heartstrings. I don’t think it’ll be for everybody (if only because of random things I care not name), but I think it’s for most. It’s wonderful and addicting and painful to put down-if the purple bags I’m sporting under my eyes today are any indication of my late night reading rampage. Poet and Briar and other characters I dare not to name gripped me in ways I never expected -and I hope they’ll grip you, too.

Oh, and a special shout out to my main ferret, Tumble-a favorite character by far :P.
