Synopsis:

Geri McKenna has a not-so-secret crush on Sean Eastman, her older brother’s best friend. And it’s ripping her heart out that Sean has graduated high school and is about to move away from their little town forever.

Sean Eastman was given a gift: three years of high school living a normal life in the small town of Pembroke. Problem is he doesn’t want to leave, especially since he finally noticed that his best friend’s little sister, Geri, is really hot.

Shag Lake Prequel: The Kiss, is a short story about the coming of age of two teenagers who finally discover each other, only to be torn apart by the different paths their future takes them. Will they ever meet again?

Review:

The Kiss was a quick, fun read.  And I was so happy to learn that it was free.  You see, I wanted to read this prequel to find out if I wanted to pick up the next book, Shag Lake.  And when I finished that last page, I knew I needed to continue the story!  I really liked Geri, even though she comes across as young and inexperienced.  I also liked Sean, who is Geri’s older brother’s best friend.  But I needed to know not only what he was, but what would happen to them next.  I definitely recommend picking up this novella, although you should keep in mind that Shag Lake is not only a full length book, but it’s set eight years in the future.  So of course it has a different feel with action, suspense, steamy moments and creatures mixed into the pages.  FYI – It’s a NA Science Fiction book.   And by then, Geri has matured and I absolutely loved her.  And Sean was even more irresistible and someone I swooned over.  Hard.  And I just have to tell you…….I LOVED Shag Lake….spoiler alert….I gave it 4.5 Stars!

My review of Shag Lake will be posted tomorrow on release day. 🙂

Synopsis:

Worst. Road Trip. Ever.

Escaping with Reid Wentworth should have been fun, but how can I enjoy it when I just (accidentally) killed someone, my mom and brother are in danger, and the Consortium is trying to enslave humanity? (Yeah, they aren't fooling around.) So feeling something for Reid Wentworth was not part of the plan. Trying to help unite the Resistance against the Consortium means I can’t be distracted by hot boys.

The Resistance secret hideout isn’t exactly Hoth's Echo Base. A traitor there wants me dead, but we have no idea who it is. And with both the Resistance and the Consortium trying to control me, the only one I can trust is Reid. If we’re going to have any chance of protecting my family, controlling my unstable powers, and surviving the clash between the Oculi factions, I’m going to have to catch this traitor. By using myself as bait.

Review:

*Spoilers for Anomaly*

Enigma was an entertaining conclusion to the Schrodinger’s Consortium duology.  It was fast paced, had an adorable romance, fun superpowers, and I couldn’t help but like some of the new characters.  I’m so glad I gave this duology a try, and I will definitely be picking up Tonya Kuper’s future releases!  Here are some of my thoughts on Enigma –

A strong yet realistic heroine –

Anger seethed in my stomach as I watched thunderhead clouds billow from behind the mountain peaks. Energy buzzed in my fingers. This mole, this accomplice to my attempted murder, this orchestrator of the deaths of innocent people, didn’t know what was coming for him. – Josie

It’s been three days since Anomaly ended, and my heart was saddened to see how much Josie was suffering.  She was struggling emotionally from the fight she was in, along with the fact that she took someone’s life.  Someone who she thought she trusted, and was even a friend.  But I had faith that Josie would pull herself together.  And till then, I loved watching how she trained.  She was was beyond fierce and brave.  Yet her fears were always there too.  See, that’s one of the many reasons I liked her.  She was someone who was not only realistic, but easy to like!

Book boyfriend material –

The thought of Josie putting her life on the line split me into pieces. Part of me, the part that respected her decision to do this and knew she was capable of making her own decisions, ballooned with pride. But the other part of me, the part that wanted a future with her, the selfish part of me, ached from the terror of possibly losing her. – Reid

Probably my favorite thing about this whole book was Reid.  I know.  I’m hopeless.  I loved that his top priority was keeping Josie safe.  I loved that he was her biggest champion.  And I absolutely loved when he was authoritative to others.  He was amazing when he took charge!  You’ll see what I mean when they arrive in the Hub.  Reid was still sexy as ever, such a good guy, and someone I could easily obsess about.

Unique abilities and powers –

Reid slid his hands off my waist and one corner of his mouth curved upward. “Time to kick ass.”

I know I said this in my first review, but I have to mention it again.  The powers and abilities in this book, I’ve never read about them before.  It was fascinating to learn about, and I loved that they were entirely different from everything else out there.  It made reading about their training, fighting or even every day moments SO much fun!  And I loved seeing how Josie’s powers manifested *she was fierce!!*!

My only two wishes –

This moment mattered. This moment was all those other kisses, and touches, and years of watching each other rolled into one. He felt it, too. – Josie

I wish that some moments between Josie and Reid were expanded, because I’m greedy like that.  Especially in the beginning when they were traveling around and staying in motel rooms.  And had to share a bed.  I wanted those good night moments.  Whether they were sweet,  awkward or even if it showed Josie waking up from her nightmares in the middle of the night.  I couldn’t have had enough of Josie and Reid time (I was a little obsessed about them).  And I also wish there was more expansion on the Consortium.  I wanted to know why they were the way they were and learn more about them.

His hand wrapped around mine as I watched the sky and my chest suddenly seemed full. Reid was like quicksand— all consuming, sifting into parts of me I didn’t even know needed filling. – Josie

So while I guessed how a few things would turn out, there were some twists and turns that were wonderful and surprising.  I love when that happens!  But but but, there was mention of a thing in the future *yes I’m being vague here haha*.  So while it wrapped up beautifully, it also left room for a future book or even a spin-off?  Maybe it’s wishful thinking on my part, but I’d love to read more about these characters.  I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to them just yet, so fingers crossed!

Synopsis:

Reality is only an illusion.
Except for those who can control it…

Worst. Birthday. Ever.

My first boyfriend dumped me―happy birthday, Josie!―my dad is who knows where, I have some weird virus that makes me want to hurl, and now my ex is licking another girl's tonsils. Oh, and I'm officially the same age as my brother was when he died. Yeah, today is about as fun-filled as the swamps of Dagobah. But then weird things start happening…

Like I make something materialize just by thinking about it.

When hottily-hot badass Reid Wentworth shows up on a motorcycle, everything changes. Like, everything. Who I am. My family. What really happened to my brother. Existence. I am Oculi, and I have the ability to change reality with my thoughts. Now Reid, in all his hotness, is charged with guiding and protecting me as I begin learning how to bend reality. And he's the only thing standing between me and the secret organization that wants me dead…

Review:

Anomaly was fast paced, had me completely addicted and was so much fun!  I flew through the pages, I became attached and connected to the characters, I swooned over the romance, and the abilities/powers we learned about was beyond unique!  This book was such a huge win, and I can’t wait to see how it all wraps up in this duology!

Her safe little world had to be disrupted, and I was the one chosen to drag her into hell. It was my responsibility to keep her alive and in check. Her life depends on me. My throat felt dry. She didn’t deserve this, but she also didn’t have a choice. – Reid

Josie Harper made me laugh.  And totally not on purpose.  You see, she’s this science loving girl.  And the facts and explanations she gave throughout the book was spot on, but so not right for the moment lol.  I mean, we start out the book with her bestie bringing her a birthday cupcake to school…….with the image of Sheldon Cooper (Big Bang Theory TV Show) on it ha.  I quickly found myself liking her.  Josie was smart, sarcastic, strong, brave, honest and everything I love in a heroine.  So when Reid burst into her life, I felt a little clueless, just like Josie.  You see, she’s not aware of who she really is, and what’s she’s capable of doing.  She’s been sheltered and lied to her whole life, and Reid is about to blow her whole world up.

“I understand you’re scared and you don’t know what’s going on, but you can trust me . I won’t let anything happen to you.”  We stood there, staring at each other, and after a few seconds, something changed in her eyes and she closed the gap between us.

The day Reid entered her life, strange things started to take place.  She thought things, and they happened.  Plus she had this blinding pain in her brain.  Thankfully Reid explained to her that that was normal, since she was Oculi.  Oculi have the ability to make what they observe a reality.  That was SO original for me.  I was fascinated learning about their powers, and all that they could and couldn’t do!  Yet life wasn’t all roses.  Because of her powers, people wanted her dead.  And Reid was there to train and protect her from those people.

I wanted to grab her and run. To hell with the war, the Resistance. I wanted to take Josie away and keep her safe. – Reid

From the moment Josie and Reid met, I was a goner.  They have this attraction between them that was undeniable.  And their beautiful chemistry had me sighing out loud and left me wanting to curl into this happy little ball.  Plus I loved that we got to alternate between Josie and Reid!  Because then we got little clues about the past and what the bigger picture was from Reid.

“You’ve sacrificed so much,” I said, watching the water lap around my shins.
“Well,” he whispered, drawing me toward his side, “some things, some
people, are worth making sacrifices for.”

Oh, Reid Wentworth.  I loved everything about him.  That he worked so hard to earn Josie’s trust and friendship.  That he was fiercely loyal.  That he was her ultimate protector, while also training her to take care of herself.  The things he sacrificed to keep Josie safe and to train her, ugh, it pulled at my heart and made me fall harder for him.  He was such a good guy and I completely fell for him.  And as the story progressed, I loved hearing his thoughts and how he felt about Josie.  Melt me into a puddle why don’t you!  He was charming, strong and I was completely enchanted by him!

“I’m tired of not living,” I whispered. I hadn’t planned the words—they just broke out of me.
His eyes searched my face, then he dipped his head, lips barely grazing mine. – Josie

So I can’t say more, other than there were some manifestations of Josie’s powers that floored me and there was a twist I didn’t see coming from a mile away.  Anomaly was such a fun book, and it’s for people who love their sci-fi and paranormal stories to have a romance that plays a strong part.  Now I’m off to see how it all ends up in the final book, Enigma!

AFTER THE KISS
Sex, Love & Stiletto #1
Lauren Layne
Loveswept

AFTER THE KISS Lauren Layne kicks off her Sex, Love & Stiletto series with a delightful short novel! In After the Kiss, the star columnist of Stiletto magazine will do anything for a story. Anything . . . except fall in love.

Julie Greene loves flings. Loves steamy first dates, sizzling first kisses, and every now and then, that first sexy romp between the sheets. Comfy pants, sleepy Sundays, movie nights on the couch? Shudder. But when Julie gets assigned the hardest story of her career—a first-person account of that magical shift between dating and “I do”—she’ll need a man brave enough to give a total commitment-phobe a chance at more.

Normally, Mitchell Forbes would be exactly that man. A devastatingly hot workaholic who tends to stay in relationships for far too long, he should be the perfect subject for Julie’s “research.” But what Julie doesn’t know is that Mitchell is looking to cut loose for once in his life. And the leggy journalist notorious for avoiding love is exactly the type of no-strings fling he’s looking for. In other words, Mitchell is the polar opposite of what Julie needs right now. And, at the same time, he’s exactly what she wants.
