Synopsis:

Cheerleader Isobel Lanley is horrified when she is paired with Varen Nethers for an English project, which is due—so unfair—on the day of the rival game. Cold and aloof, sardonic and sharp-tongued, Varen makes it clear he’d rather not have anything to do with her either. But when Isobel discovers strange writing in his journal, she can’t help but give this enigmatic boy with the piercing eyes another look.

Soon, Isobel finds herself making excuses to be with Varen. Steadily pulled away from her friends and her possessive boyfriend, Isobel ventures deeper and deeper into the dream world Varen has created through the pages of his notebook, a realm where the terrifying stories of Edgar Allan Poe come to life.

As her world begins to unravel around her, Isobel discovers that dreams, like words, hold more power than she ever imagined, and that the most frightening realities are those of the mind. Now she must find a way to reach Varen before he is consumed by the shadows of his own nightmares.

His life depends on it.

  *VACATION REVIEW*

“Isobel?” Varen called to her in a whisper. “Hold on,” she said. “Hold on and wait. For me.” She turned away from him, toward the direction of the screaming, which came now between bursts of a pounding sound like someone beating their fists against a bolted door. She began to run. “Isobel!” “I’ll be right back, I promise!” These last words echoed through the passageway around her. I promise, she thought, repeating her vow over and over in her mind. I promise.

Omg this book…it was beyond words spectacular and out of this world amazing. I don’t know why I’ve never read this one before, but for my vacation it has been PERFECT-mesmerizing. Sitting on the beach (even at this moment), not knowing the difference between dream and reality…just breathtaking. Creepy, deep, and addicting, I am officially hooked. This series will consume my whole time in Florida lol.

The Nocs The Nocs They live in the floor The Nocs The Nocs They knock on your door The Nocs The Nocs Where there’s one, there’s more.

And Varen…just ugh. What an interesting, complex, and tortured character. I adored this book from beginning to end, and I still haven’t decided if I rated high enough. I’ll let you know, though ;). Until I post a mini-review again… Latas ♥

Synopsis:

Anna Whitt, daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she'd never do the work of her father--polluting souls. She'd been naive to make such a claim. She'd been naive about a lot of things.

Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school's party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there's Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.

When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?

Review:

Sweet Peril was completely mesmerizing.  Whether Kaidan was trying to seduce or push Anna away, or Anna was trying to discover his feelings, I was enraptured.  They twisted my emotions around in the best possible way. Especially that lead up to the ending!    This series continues to be a favorite, and I can’t wait to see how the ending unfolds.

I promised myself I’d never do the work of my demon father—polluting souls—leading humans to abuse their bodies with drugs and alcohol. I’d been naive to make such a vow. I’d been naive about a lot of things.

Anna continued to struggle in life, not only with her confusion towards Kaidan, but also because she had to “work”.  Since the others knew that she existed, she was being watched.  So Anna transformed herself into the ultimate party girl, and was a bad influence to the humans around her.  Which is the polar opposite of her goody two-shoes tendencies.  I felt horrible for Anna as she emotionally fell apart.  But thankfully her will to live was strong!  I was so happy to see that no matter how depressed she got, she continued to fight for her right to live and protect the ones she loved.  But I was happiest to see that Anna was willing to take risks.  Especially ones that revolved around Kaidan!

He stepped closer, not letting me go. “You shouldn’t have come.” I nearly faltered from the sting of his words and the fire in his eyes. “I know.”

The risks she took around Kaidan had my stomach in knots.  I was so nervous for her safety and her heart, but Anna was determined to know Kaidan’s thoughts and feelings towards her.  Which I desperately wanted to know too!  But Kaidan tried to have a death grip on keeping everything inside, except his ability to seduce.  But every once in a while it seemed as though he would slip up, and I grabbed a hold of those glimpses and held them close to my heart.   Kaidan continued to captivate me, made me smile and fan my face.  That’s why it was so hard to see Anna and Kopano spend so much time together.

I knew there would be something bigger to focus on someday, bigger than my life and my worries. And now it was happening. But I never imagined my life’s mission would be coupled with such agony and loss.

Anna and Kopano traveled together to recruit as many allies as they could.  They not only had their lives to worry about but their hearts too.  Remember that Kopano liked Anna back in Sweet Evil?  Well that hasn’t disappeared.  And I was scared to death that Anna would act on that attraction and friendship.  I just wanted her to firmly place him in the friend zone.  So their times together kept me on my toes.  I was so anxious with how the story would unfold, except for when other old friends made appearances.

But all I could think about was the boy I loved and his empty gaze, lost to me.

Thankfully, Anna was able to form stronger friendships within their group of friends.  I absolutely adored the twins.  Maria was the sweetest person ever, and I loved getting to learn more about Ginger.  Shocking, but she was so much fun with her snippy attitude lol!  I’m definitely a fan of both of them!  Ohhh and Blake too!  And another female whose name I can’t mention.  I loved that friendship plays such an important part in this story!

“I’m trying to talk to you,” I said. “Yes, I know. But I’d rather not.” In one step he had me against the table, the back of my thighs hitting the edge as he pressed his body flush against mine.

Sweet Peril created an emotional overload in me, and I say this with a huge smile on my face!  Moments made me swoon, elated, crushed, scared and I loved that my emotions pulled me in so many different directions.  I am so happy I picked up this series!  And if you are a huge paranormal lover, then I really think you would enjoy this series too.

Synopsis:

What if there were teens whose lives literally depended on being bad influences? This is the reality for sons and daughters of fallen angels.

Tenderhearted Southern girl Anna Whitt was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She's aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but Anna, the ultimate good girl, has always had the advantage of her angel side to balance the darkness within. It isn't until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage and her willpower is put to the test. He's the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.

Forced to face her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?

Review:

Sweet Evil was breathtakingly perfect.  It had every single thing I absolutely adore, and I closed the last page with tears in my eyes and hope in my heart.  The characters I met and the story that unfolded captured my attention and made putting the book down next to impossible.  When life forced that hand, I eagerly counted the minutes until I could step back into their world.  It was so much more than good vs evil, because the pages were filled with friendship, hope, family, trust and discovering your heart.  I loved every part of this story!

We were damned for simply being born. So why was I holding fast to rules that didn’t really apply to me anyway? Why shouldn’t I take from this life what I could in the time I had? This had nothing to do with what Pharzuph demanded of us, and everything to do with what Kaidan and I had become to each other.

I absolutely adored Anna.  She is what one could call a goody two-shoes, which I thought I’d have a hard time connecting to, yet she was so easy to understand.  She is honest, loyal and has a heart of gold.  Even when she reminded the teacher, in school, that they need to turn in the homework that hasn’t been collected yet haha.  But Anna has always known that she is different.  And after a run in the with Kaidan Rowe, she starts to see how much more different she really is then her adoptive mom and best friend.  Anna is a child of angels, one of light and one who is a demon.

I’d been looking in the wrong place earlier when I searched for a flaw in Kaidan. It was not in his face; it was in his personality .

Kaidan Rowe was gorgeously complicated and utterly heartbreaking.  He is the child of a demon, and explained to Anna what was expected of them.  Each of them are to have jobs, to be a bad influence to people, in their father’s area of expertise.  While I don’t want to reveal what Kaidan’s specialty is, just know that because of it I was always left swooning while also wanting to cry for him.  So Kaidan easily caught me in his seductive spell.  Even though he ran hot and cold towards Anna.  In case you’re not aware of this, I’m the one who’s always looking for the tiniest clue of hope towards a character.  So no matter what Kaidan said to Anna, I paid a great deal of attention to his actions.  And some of the little things he did for Anna made my heart soar.  He continually gave me hope, fingers crossed I’m correct!

“I wish , just once, that I could see your colors,” I whispered.

There were also darker moments in Sweet Evil, and those times seemed to break Anna apart while swallowing her whole.  And let me tell you, my heart shattered into a million pieces right along with her.  I felt her depression, her confusion, and I just wanted to curl into a little ball and sob for her.  Yet her perseverance and determination, that always won out, made me realize how much I respected and liked her.  She felt like someone I’d want to know, be friends with and have on my side.

“Which was your favorite place?” I asked.
“I’ve never been terribly attached to any place. I guess it would have to be… here.”
I stopped midchew and examined his face. He wouldn’t look at me. He was clenching his jaw, tense. Was he serious or was he teasing me? I swallowed my bite.
“The Texas panhandle?” I asked.
“No.” He seemed to choose each word with deliberate care. “I mean here in this car. With you.”

While I enjoyed the moments when Anna was with so many other characters I truly liked, Kaidan and Anna’s moments together were my favorite.  By far.  When Kaidan and Anna were together, it felt as though fireworks were exploding.  And I can’t wait to see what will happen next!  But thankfully after that ending, I was left with hope.  Hope of what is to come, and hope that this series will easily wind up on my favorites list.

Review:

“We may fight again, Sentinel. We may rail at each other until the sun breaches the sky. But the truth is this. I love you. And I found you once, that April night. I will always look for you, and I will always find you.”

If you were to ask any one of my friends, they’d tell you just how much this series holds my heart. It’s not merely the genre or the author, but a deep-rooted connection to these characters. From book one on I’ve been an avid and invested fan-From the first eyebrow raise and swivel of a chair, Ethan stole my heart. It was insta-love at it’s finest…and oh boy do I hate insta-love. What a hypocrite I am.

Throughout the series there have been many ups and downs, in-betweens, and tremendous character growth. Ethan and Merit have been through it all-with and without each other. Stubborn and not to be trifled with, they make an intimidating team. But with each new book, there are many challenges to face, and though they are close to the end, it seems trouble still has a way of finding them.

“Do you remember, Sentinel, the first words you ever said to me?”
I grimaced. “No. But I bet they were rude.

I’d be lying if I said this was my favorite installment….It would also be a gross overstatement to say I didn’t like it. Literally so much has happened to these two people, this house, and all their friends that it’s about that time where things start to get complicated and begin to circle to a close. I think I know where this author is leading….and I’m more than okay with it. And speaking of such things..

OH-EM-GEE. I just…I can’t….I mean…FINALLY. I am beyond words excited for a certain development that might have finally happened! For 12 books I have waited and waited and waited on a baited breath…to no avail. Ms. Neill is the tease of all teases, messing with my heart at each and every turn. Once again I found myself losing breath with every smoldering look, touch, and caress my boy gave Merit, and I became an unintelligible fangirl every time his name was mentioned. As one of my top guys, I will never forget this man…he just exceeds any and every expectation in each installment, putting himself in danger just to keep the girl he loves safe. I will NEVER get tired of my man putting his life on the line for his girl….he will always own me in ways I don’t even understand. Just…sighs all around.

He formed a box with his fingers. “I believe it has cars.”
I just shook my head. “How have you lived here so long without a ride on the Ferris Wheel?”
“I’m a vampire,” he said, as if that was the obvious explanation.
I just sighed.

So, you know, while I wish more things would have transpired (patient I am not), I was more than happy with the direction this story was going. I’m a greedy greedy Ethan whore, him being my only vampire book boyfriend, so is it really that bad that I wanted just a little MORE?? I mean, that’s hardly a crime. It says so much that I have stuck with this series through thick and thin, following this wonderful author on her journey to make Ethan and Merit’s lives as complicated as possible. I don’t read long series-AT ALL-so it really is a big deal I’ve come this far. Chloe Neill’s writing and hilarious banter between characters remains some of my favorite-ever-and now I cannot wait to see how the story concludes. I will miss my dear Ethan so so much….but if his starry eyed look for Merit in this installment is any indication, I know I’m in for a spectacular treat next year. I just hope I can wait. Ugh.

**************************

Interview:

Chloe Neill has come up with a completely fun twist on the interviewing process, allowing access into the mind of the Head of Cadogan House himself-Ethan!!! Take a look at this ……

1. When you saw Merit for the first time, what was the first thing that crossed your mind?

That she was lovely. And that she was destined for more than even she knew.

2. So, you’ve only ever had consorts…what made Merit different? What makes her so special?

She is entirely unlike any vampire I’d ever met before. So strong, so stubborn, and so very human. She has been a delightful challenge. An ally and an opponent in very unexpected ways.

3. You have been through Hell and back-of that we are all certain-But this makes me wonder…What is your greatest
fear?

I’ve no fondness for aspen stakes or sunlight. But the only thing I fear is the possibility of losing Merit. She has become the better half of me.

4. Throughout your very long life, you’ve lost a lot of people. I’m sure you miss them every day. If you could bring one
person back…who would it be?

My sisters. Even so many years in the past, I still miss them.

Words cannot express how much I love my Ethan and Merit (see any and all of my fangirly reviews for this series). They have stolen a large chunk of my heart and I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get it back-or if I even want to. I am so excited to be hosting this wonderful blog tour centering on a wonderful set of characters that have a personality as big as, well, 12 books. If you haven’t gotten to try this series out, I suggest you pick up the first story, Some Girls Bite, where Ethan and Merit meet for the first time. Much love and thanks to Chloe Neill for letting our blog join this wonderful event. 🙂

Synopsis:

Thomas Bellweather hasn’t been in town long. Just long enough for his newlywed mother to be murdered, and for his new stepdad’s cop colleagues to decide Thomas is the primary suspect.

Not that there’s any evidence. But before Thomas got to Garretts Mill there had just been one other murder in twenty years.

The only person who believes him is Charlotte Rooker, little sister to three cops and, with her soft hands and sweet curves, straight-up dangerous to Thomas. Her friend was the other murder vic. And she’d like a couple answers….Answers that could get them both killed, and reveal a truth Thomas would die to keep hidden.

Answers that could get them both killed, and reveal a truth Thomas would die to keep hidden…

Review:

Thicker Than Water started out as an intriguing mystery that morphed into a paranormal story that had a sinister twist.  I easily fell into Thomas and Charlotte’s world, and their first few interactions had so many feelings floating around in me.  Sympathy for Thomas being convicted as his own mother’s murderer, especially since he was the one to find her.  Anger for how he was easily judged and convicted within others eyes.  Curiosity for Charlotte and if she would be his saving grace.  And anticipation if they would eventually become something more.  But while I quickly flew through the pages, some things made me pause and not allow me to be entirely immersed in the story.  So I’m left torn, because this was such a fun, quick read yet I did have some issues.

A storm is coming, but still we stand here. “I saw her,” he says. His voice is hollow. “That night.
I saw what happened to her.”
“I know,” I whisper.

Thomas was definitely my favorite thing about this book.  I have a huge soft spot for tortured males, and he fit that part perfectly.  With his broken heart and the whole town against him, he quickly pulled me in and always left me wanting to know more about him, since the book alternates between the two of them.  But when he was around Charlotte, he was a mixture of confident and self-conscious which easily made me melt.  Thomas was sexy and alluring without ever trying.  And those are always the sexiest men in my eyes!

His lips curl into a slow smile.  “Penny for your thoughts.”
“They’re not decent.”
I. Did not. Just say that.
His smile widens, and he looks genuinely amused. “Really. What if I offer you a dollar?”
I put my hands over my face.
“Can we please just pretend this moment isn’t happening?”
“Absolutely not.”
“Shush, you. Eat your food.”

Charlotte was more of a gray area for me.  I loved how she would try to help our believe in Thomas, but her inner thoughts of contemplating whether he was a murderer or not irritated me.  I mean yes, by all means please be cautious with this new boy whose situation is insanely questionable.  I definitely would.  But don’t lead him alone into the woods to talk, when you’re going to picture him as a murderer once you two are truly alone.  Granted, she was young and extremely sheltered, so I gave her way more passes than I normally would, because I did like her.  And just a heads up, Charlotte does have a sex-obsessed best friend.  But I found Nicole to be entertaining and utterly ridiculous while still being adorable.

“No one knew her. No one cares about her. No one cares about finding out who did this. They just care about how much they hate me.”
I have to stop talking. I’m going to lose it right here in the parking lot.
Arms go around my neck, and I stiffen in surprise. She’s hugging me. Charlotte is hugging me.
I can’t remember the last time anyone hugged me.

To be honest, I’m a little torn over that ending.  I liked how some things worked out, but another part of it left me so conflicted.  It wasn’t what I wanted, and I was left wondering if everything would truly work out, even after that final page.  You see, Thicker Than Water was nicely setup for a possible second book. There is closure in the final pages, but there is also a lot up in the air.  So I was left with questions and I really wish I had those answers.  But I have to say that the twist was amazingly done!  Wow!

Thicker Than Water was a quick book to devour whose mystery kept me stuck to the pages.  The paranormal element was different, in the fact that it didn’t play a large part, but looking back you can see how it was laced throughout the story.  And even though it did leave me with questions, I can’t deny that I absolutely adored Thomas.  So I will try her Elemental Series down the road, and hopefully we will mesh up much better.  Plus I can’t wait to see what male character she has created in that story!
