Ok, it has officially been a week since I finished this-I was in Antigua so no Internet connection to review….but even after a week I am still shocked into O M G mode that this book was so damn good.

I really figured it would be corny and just another YA paranormal romance. I was wrong. I loved Daemon, I loved Katy, and I loved Dee. I loved them all, which is very rare. Katy was a realistic heroine figure and she never once got on my nerves. Daemon….was definitely a douche..but I STILL loved him and hey, lets be realistic-I knew better than to fall for his facade. This book had it all-Suspense, romance (of course), a huge, dramatic fight-to-the-death scene at the end, and a cliff-hanger that had me cursing out loud that I was in another country and could not buy the second installment in the series. Needless to say, the minute I landed in the states I was seeking out Wi-fi connectivity in-between flights to get started on the second book in this awesome series. Loved it-another favorite added to the shelf.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED Obsidian, and I loved Onyx. But I wasn’t AS wowed when I finished as when I finished the first. This one was great, but I guess it just bothered me a tad, and I say a tad because I know it shouldn’t all just work out perfectly right away, that Katy would not admit her feelings for Daemon. I mean, come on, just admit it! That part drove me crazy. And normally I could care less in a romance if there is lack of girlfriends, but I truly missed Dee in this one.

She was hardly in it and she is just the sweetest thing..weird thing to say I know, but she was so nice and fun in Obsidian that I missed her spunk in the second. I guess that made an impact of the intensity of the novel as well. And, as per her first book, there was another cliff hanger at the end of this one that had me scrambling yet again to another Wi-fi area to download book 3, Opal. I know there will be yet another cliff hanger at the end of Opal and it has me asking myself-What will I do when done with this third book..considering the fourth installment does not come out until July?…

Oh man did this book get me… It literally took me forever to finish the last 50 pages because I just KNEW that Jen was going to leave us with a killer cliffhanger-and that she did and then some. The previous two installments had cliffhangers that had you begging for more, but Opal left you feeling like you were a fish out of water gasping for breath with no relief. I was on the edge of my seat until the very last sentence, and it nearly killed me.

How am I going to wait until JULLLYYYY????

I am so addicted to this series, and I never knew about it until recently! Thank you Goodreads! I would never have found such an awesome series without using this site. This series was so unexpected..paranormal can be written stupidly, and frankly after all the paranormals I have read I have been trying to stay away from them. These books are far from stupid-they are beautifully written and even have you laughing out loud. I would have truly been missing out if I passed this series up-it has literally everything. Seriously. Love, loss, BETRAYAL to the nth degree, humor, suspense, action and more.

This is one of my new top favorite series and I suspect I will be re-reading it..despite my best efforts to move on and find another series until the sweet release of book 4 in July that will hopefully satisfy the gaping hole this book left in my heart. It will be virtually impossible. I would not pass this series by…it hooks you and leaves you begging for more.

“A certain bone-deep understanding occurred and my hand tightened around the smaller one I held. It weren’t stars we were staring at. The sky was falling.”

I’m not quite sure what to say right now. Daemon is just…he’s just special. When all else fails and I’m having a bad day, I turn to one of the Lux novels-they never fail to make me smile. We all knew that under that bad attitude was a guy who was falling madly in love with a human girl, and it makes for such a cute, endearing story, that I could never be disappointed with any of these books. What happened when I picked up this book, I will never be able to explain, but it felt like I was whole again the minute August 27th arrived and this bright blue cover was screaming at me from my ereader. These stories have the power to manipulate my attitude, good or bad, and Origin was no exception.

“..You’re my-you’re my everything, Kat.” At the sound of her soft inhale, I smiled again. “Come on, Kitten, did you really expect anything less from me? I love you.”

We start immediately where we left off in Opal. A heap of shit. View Spoiler » This was by far the darkest story yet. And I can’t say I didn’t miss the lightness of the first three installments. Sure, things have to rear their ugly head eventually, but I still missed what was in the other books.

He did something truly remarkable with hips, causing me to gasp.
“Yeah,” he said smugly. “I deserve another kiss.”
Yes. Yes he did.

Daemon. Oh Daemon. Daemon’s raw passion fueled the entirety of Origin. What he feels for Katy can’t be measured, and he makes sure everyone around knows it. He is a hard person-he’s had to be for his family’s safety. But when it comes to
his
girl, he is sweet, affectionate, kind-hearted, and gentle. No one can tell him he is wrong, because, well, he’s Daemon, right? No one tells him what to do, and when it comes to katy, he’d burn the whole world to keep her safe.

“Yes,” I said. “She is worth everything“.

Dawson is more ‘present’ in this one, both physically and mentally. But while Dawson and Daemon are carbon copies of one another, there is something that separates the twins. Daemon’s inner strength. What ultimately broke Dawson didn’t come close to touching Daemon. It’s not necessarily cockiness, but confidence, and that’s whyView Spoiler » No matter what they throw at him, he won’t break; he is both physically and mentally equipped to take care of business, no matter the cost, and that’s what makes him powerful. His loyalty, passion, and soul.

“I want a years-worth of seconds and minutes with you. I want a decade’s worth of hours, so many that I can’t add them up.”

For once, the banter wasn’t the star. Shit is real, and big things are happening. No one is safe-not even the main characters. There was a lot of death and destruction, I’m not going to lie to you. Unlikely allies will surface and those you thought were the most trustworthy are the ones to stab you in the back. Corruption in society and a new soon-to-be apocalypse is on the rise. What to do, where to go, and who to trust are only a handful of problems our little team of outsiders will face. You are in for a truly emotional ride.

Our compassion that night had been the final nail in our coffins. It was so ironically sad.

Happy tears, relieved tears, my bestie is awesome tears-you name ’em, I cried ’em. This book made me a sappy, squeeing mess. I never squee. Origin is a strong story about what you are willing to do to protect/save the ones you love, and to what lengths you are willing to go to find happiness.

BOOK REVIEW – Gabriel’s Inferno (Gabriel’s Inferno #1) by Sylvain Reynard

Lazy but curious hands caressed naked skin, exploring gently but chastely. Sighs commingled in the dark as two souls breathed as one. Two heartbeats synchronized when they recognized one another. And two troubled, conflicted minds finally came to rest.

A completely unexpected surprise, I found myself jumping on the Gabriel bandwagon, regretting every day that I chose to skip over this magnificent sea of poetically written words. I suppose I had thought this was an erotic novel, which isn’t my favorite genre in any way, shape, or form-so I chose to ignore the hype that surrounded GI, isolating myself from a story that genuinely transported me to another world, a world where I was completely content to be away from reality.

“For the rest of my life, I’ll dream of hearing your voice breathe my name.”

Sometimes books come along where I’m struck speechless, and this is definitely one of them. How can I possibly write a review that will do justice to this masterpiece? There were times I felt myself sighing in a contented state of euphoria when Gabriel would go out of his way to show Julia she wasn’t alone, that there was someone else in the world who cared for her well being, even if they could never really be in a relationship. Other times I felt myself swept away by the expertly written words that had my brow furrowing in confusion, for I had no clue what they were even talking about-lol. The level that GI reached was far beyond my comprehension, but I felt myself falling in love with the story, nonetheless, with each passing page. I’m no imbecile, but the teachings of Dante and Beatrice and the foreign languages and words they spoke in, at times, befuddled me. They were beautifully written, of course, as I mentioned above. Don’t mistake what I’m saying for a complaint, I just wanted to express how much time and effort went into writing such a breathtaking story.

“I’m sorry I disappointed you. I wish I was the knight rather than the dragon. But I’m not.” He pulled back to stare deeply into her eyes. “Everything is up to you. You can rescue me or banish me with a single word.”

Gabriel Emerson is the type of man I would like to imagine really does exist. At first, he is brooding, harsh, and somewhat cruel in his expectations and judgements. But then, layer after layer starts to become exposed, and we get to see that the harsh exterior is far crustier than what truly lies beneath-a beautifully broken man who only wants the best for his life and those he feels he has done wrong to. He doesn’t want to be involved with anyone, really, that needs an emotional attachment he is not willing to give, because that only leads to obsession and heartache. His somewhat uppity attitude had me chuckling out loud, because some of the problems he had were beyond ludicrous-things we take for granted in day to day life and would never re-evaluate as he did. I found myself wondering if men like Gabriel truly exist, or if it’s possible that all the Gabriels in the world only exist in the fictional realm-he was kind, forgiving, charming, and head over heels for Julia. There was nothing he would not do for her, and he more than shows it as the book progresses.

He looked at her book bag and decided then and there that it had to go. If he had to see that hideous thing one more time, he was going to lose it. And Paul had touched it, which meant that it was polluted. She’d have to throw it away. (see, I LOVE how much he hates her damn bookbag [and Paul, for that matter]-too funny)

Julia was a little hard to swallow at first-there are only so many times a person can flush/blush or hide behind their hair before I, as a reader, start to become frustrated. I feared the whole story would be centered around how shy and mousy Julia was, and I am not one to love a pushover for a protagonist. Now, while Julia’s personality centers around how insecure and shy she is, it never shadows her character. As the story progresses, we begin to see Julia blossom into a confident, sure-of-herself woman thanks to Gabriel’s gentle pushing and encouragement; we start to see how brilliant, kind, and charitable Julia truly is. I began to understand and sympathize with her as her character grew into someone who had a backbone and was willing to fight for what she wanted. I started to love not only Gabriel and Julia together, but Julia as an individual who was on the road to Harvard and making her life what she always wanted, but never dreamed possible.

When everyone in the whole world believes one thing and you are the only one who believes differently, it’s very tempting to assimilate. All Julia would have to do would be to forget, to deny, to suppress. Then she would be just like everyone else.

A perceptive novel that I could never possibly explain the way I want to, I was completely enthralled from beginning to finish. Intricately woven with barely masked passion between a professor and his student, this complex tale of a forbidden romance is made even sweeter when they finally do fall completely for one another. An intense love affair ensues and we are left breathless and begging for more-I immediately jumped to the second book, and I am already half way through. For those who are skeptical, I suggest you pick it up and at least give it a try. Gabriel and Julia’s love is one of the most beautiful and pure I have seen, and you are truly missing out if you haven’t met them yet.

So perhaps it was the case that she had no choice now because she had made her choice then. She’d made her choice when he asked for her hand and she’d offered it without question. Once he touched her, she knew she was his. Afterward, he had always been there in the shadows, like a ghost who would not leave. And now the ghost had decided that he wanted her.
