Synopsis:

Sera has no memory of her life before. Before captivity, before experiments, before the only lifeline she had was the voice of a boy in the cell next to hers. Before G.

G wishes he could forget everything before Sera brought him back to life. Forget his memories as a ruthless mercenary on an alternate version of Earth. Forget that he was part of an experiment simply known as Alpha.

Now on the run from their captors and in need of an antidote to save his life, G and Sera’s clock is ticking. And they’ll have to gamble everything on the bond they forged in captivity if they want to survive.

Review:

Alpha was the final book in The Infinity Division Trilogy and it ended with a bang!  I loved watching all the loose ends get tied up and those I’ve come to care for get their happily ever afters. But it was a rough road get there.  Heartache, redemption, sacrifice, lies and love filled the pages and at times everything seemed so unsure in this parallel dimension story.  So if you’re interested in giving this series a try you definitely have to go back to book one, Infinity. Yes each book is about a different couple, but the stories and threads are all linked together. It was so much fun seeing it all come full circle and there’s a moment that takes us back to the beginning of this series, awww loved it!!  So to finish up this trilogy, here are some of my favorite aspects:

“Dylan, everyone on every earth is breaking at some point or another.” I looked him dead in the eye. “Bad things happen to all of us. Horrible, life-altering things. It’s how we choose to deal with them that defines us.” – Sera

✮ Everlasting Love:

“I’m not going to kiss you again.” The statement was crystal clear; it was the delivery that lacked conviction. “I’m poison. Inside and out.”
“Then poison me,” I said. I brushed my lips to his again, this time slightly harder. He stayed absolutely still. I pulled away. “Do it so that I can show you I won’t break. I’m not fragile, G. I’m made of steel. You told me that, remember? I’m a fighter, so let me fight for you.”

I loved the idea that no matter what dimension you were in, there were always the constants in your life.  And within those constants was that one true love. I loved KCade and Kori, then Noah and Ash and finally I got to swoon for G and Sera.  We’ve known different versions of them on other dimensions and their true names are Dylan and Ava. But G and Sera faced the biggest hurdles and struggles yet.  And as if that wasnt enough, they had Dylan after them, in different ways. But regardless of everything they were put through, their love stood strong and not only fought the test of time but dimensions too.

✮ Friendships That Span The Dimensions:

“G, take a deep breath. We’re here to help you.” Kori… She came around to stand in front of me . Her gaze flickered to something on my right, then back to me. “We’re your friends.”
Someone beyond my field of vision snorted. Had to be Noah. “Friends? Not sure I’d go
that far,” he said. “But we won’t set you on fire or anything.”
There was an echoing
thwap—probably from Ash smacking the shit out of him— and a hiss.

I loved how this group of six, could be found in almost every dimension.  Their dynamic was a ton of fun and added so much to this series.  So it made my heart happy that we seemed to gather the best of all of their selves into this rag tag kinda group.  When they were together it definitely wasn’t easy, and not everyone was going to end up bffs, but still, it was so entertaining to watch them together. In this book I adored watching what happened between G and Cade.  G was another Dylan, so the two of them were brothers in a sense, and I loved some of the moments they had together.

✮ Action!:

I screamed at night over the things Cora had done to me, but Dylan was right. The devil was standing at my back.
And he had Dylan’s face. – Sera

There was a ton of action and this book had that go, go, go feeling.  But there was also moments where we got to breathe.  Thank goodness because we had Cora after Sera and Ash, Dylan was after so much I can’t even talk about, G and Cade were trying to save Sera and then there’s also the projects we learned about in book 2.  Oh my gosh, there was a lot going on. I’m happy I quickly skimmed some of my highlights from book 2, Omega, so that way I knew exactly where I stood before stepping into this book. BUT I never once felt lost or confused. The story and characters were extremely easy to follow and it made Alpha fly by super fast!

✮ That Ending:

She was the sun in my world, and I was simply a planet caught in her gravitational pull, helpless. Without her light, I would wither and die. – G

If you adore happily ever afters, then you’re going love the ending to this series.  We got to see what happened and where their lives would lead with so many of our favorites.  Did everyone get a HEA? Ummmm no lol. But that was bound to be expected and all I can say is that I’m ecstatic with how many epilogues we got at the back of the book.

“She was that for me,” Dylan said. He grinned, and for the first time since I’d met him, it was a genuine smile. “She was the only one who saw me. If you’re really that for him, don’t let go, because without you… Without you, he’ll just become me.”

I had a lot of fun reading this trilogy.  It was unlike a lot of other books I have read but it had that chemistry and tension that I always crave when I pick up a book. So if you adore books that have complicated friendships and love interests, solid characters that stand out and a fun science fiction element then you should give this series a try.  I will definitely be picking up other books by this author!

Synopsis:

My twin brother’s talked me into a lot of crazy things, but taking his place on a road trip with his girlfriend so he can party with his friends is a whole new level of insanity. What’s even more insane is I somehow find myself agreeing to it—thanks, alcohol, guilt, and bribery. I’m determined to undo the arrangement, but then I meet Gwen, this sexy redheaded hurricane of energy and brains.

And then she kisses me. Just like that, I’m driving her up the coast, on our way to a wedding with a mess of complications. With each hour and each stop, I’m falling harder and harder for a woman who doesn’t know my actual name.

I’m trying to do the right thing. Or the lesser of the wrong things. All my life I’ve had to clean up my brother’s messes, but for the first time ever, I’ve landed the upper hand in one of our switcheroo schemes. Now I’ve just got to come clean and convince Gwen that I’m the brother she should be with.

It’s no secret that I’m a hardcore fantasy junkie and I love my serious romantic peril. But, when it all comes down to it….I’m a big ‘ol softie for contemporary romance. Yeah, yeah, I know. But when you’re down, having a bad week, day, whatever, there’s nothing like a simple story of a guy falling for a girl…and doing anything he can to make her his. Sorry not sorry, that’s my THING, and I will not apologize for it. So, let’s not waste any more time. If you’ve read a book by Cindi Madsen, you know how epic she is. If you haven’t….well. You’re missing out. What are you waiting for?! Read this adorable excerpt and get on with it already. I hope you all love it.

Excerpt:

[scroll-box]Five ridiculously intense rides where I’d wrapped myself around Evan later, my legs and body had turned gelatinous after moving too fast for too long.
And I was still wrapped around Evan. That move was like twenty percent the-ground-felt-unsteady-under-my-feet, and eighty percent enjoying-being-wrapped-around-him.
He slowed in front of the booth with a tower of milk bottles people tried to knock over for prizes. “To make up for dragging you along on all those rides—which I know you enjoyed, even though you’ll never admit it—I’m going to win you a prize.”
“One, I enjoyed them as much as anyone who thinks too much about every bolt and rickety part can, and two, these games are all rigged.”
“No faith,” he said, shaking his head.
“That’s what happens when you’re tricked into riding death traps in the name of ‘fun.’”
Evan lowered his lips to mine, and the way my stomach dipped and my skin hummed was a hundred times better than any thrill I could get from even the most insane carnival ride. “And now to wow you with my other talents.”
The guy handed him five balls for his five dollars, and Evan lined up for his throw. He launched the ball through the air, and while the speed and the way it smacked the bottles was impressive, they didn’t go down.
Since I like to be super helpful, I said, “See. Rigged.”
Evan quirked his eyebrow at me, then picked up the next ball and threw it. Another hit, but the bottles barely wobbled.
“I gotta be honest, I was more wowed by the kissing.”
He pinched my side, his grin bringing out the sexy grooves in his cheeks. Determination set his jaw as I handed him the next ball. Three more throws, three more times the stack wobbled but didn’t go down.
“One more round?” the guy working the booth asked. Then he looked at me. “How about I give the lady one throw for free? I won’t even straighten the bottles.”
He pulled a bright-red ball out from under the stand, and with a shrug, I reached for it. Not like I had anything to lose. I studied the ball, noticing it looked bigger than the ones Evan had been using, and it felt heavier as well.
The guy working the booth gave me a secretive smile I quickly returned.
“Do you need me to wrap my arms around you under the pretense of teaching you to throw?” Evan asked.
“Hmm. While I like the thought of that, I think it’d be safer for everyone if you gave my throwing arm a wide berth.”
He took an exaggerated step back and placed a protective hand over his package.
“Very funny.” I sucked in a deep breath, cocked my arm, and threw for all I was worth.
The ball collided with the bottles, and they went down with a loud clatter. I jumped up and down and added a maniacal laugh. The guy working the booth pointed at the stuffed animals I could choose from.
“Way to show me up,” Evan teased as he came up behind me, wound his arms around my waist, and rested his chin on my shoulder.
I glanced back at him. “What prize do you want?”
“You won it for me, huh?” he asked, and I nodded.
“I want you to have a souvenir to show off to your friends when you brag about how well I take care of you.”
He moved his lips to the column of my neck and dropped a kiss there, and my entire body broke out in goosebumps. “Then I want the unicorn riding the rainbow, of course.”
“Oh, sure. Promise me a unicorn, then rub it in my face when you get one.”
The guy handed me the colorful stuffed creature, and I studied my prize as we walked away. “This unicorn’s more than riding the rainbow; he’s totally humping it.”
Evan’s soft chuckle sent happiness pinging through me. “Horny magical creature.”
That made me snort-laugh, and I hugged the dirty unicorn to my chest, already sure it was going to be my all-time favorite souvenir.

Re-Read Blog Tour: A Reaper at the Gates (An Ember in the Ashes #3) by Sabaa Tahir

And here it is-My final Ember Re-Read Post. Tired of them yet? Too bad-I love this series too dearly to not honor it so. And, with this final post, I have the most freedom. Why, you ask? Well, as you know, Reaper hasn’t been released yet. Sooooo I don’t have any format or review or ANYTHING but the horrifying snippets Sabaa has posted (what doozies they have been-yikes)-so, I’m choosing to do what I do best: fangirl. Fangirl about my favorite boy in the whole wide world. Emberlings rejoice, for this is my Elias Appreciation Post. All my fellow Elias fans, this sheer rambling is for you and I. Enjoy.

Synopsis:

Beyond the Empire and within it, the threat of war looms ever larger.

The Blood Shrike, Helene Aquilla, is assailed on all sides. Emperor Marcus, haunted by his past, grows increasingly unstable, while the Commandant capitalizes on his madness to bolster her own power. As Helene searches for a way to hold back the approaching darkness, her sister's life and the lives of all those in the Empire hang in the balance.

Far to the east, Laia of Serra knows the fate of the world lies not in the machinations of the Martial court, but in stopping the Nightbringer. But while hunting for a way to bring him down, Laia faces unexpected threats from those she hoped would aid her, and is drawn into a battle she never thought she'd have to fight.

And in the land between the living and the dead, Elias Veturius has given up his freedom to serve as Soul Catcher. But in doing so, he has vowed himself to an ancient power that will stop at nothing to ensure Elias's devotion–even at the cost of his humanity

I’ve done favorite (not near as many as I’d like) quotes. I’ve done favorite moments. If it’s a favorite, it has to do with Elias. So now…it’s just all out Elias lovin’ time. (OH! And on a side note: Sabaa and Tomi Adeyemi did a Youtube post where they read each others’ fan’s reviews….and MINE WAS FEATURED!!!!! I AM CHELSEA! I AM THAT PSYCHO! Check out the video here at 2:55. And the somehow more psycho (yes they tamed it down) review it originated from is HERE)

The guy who was top dog-the man who had everything. The student who had the brightest future, if only he’d reach high enough. The dreamer who wished for more. The soldier…that didn’t want to be a soldier at all. An Ember in the Ashes, a spark that didn’t want to ravage and destroy, but to be free. Turns out, fate had other plans. One of those plans? Another young spark in the form of a slave girl. A forbidden love. The beginning of a treacherous journey; his destiny. And, perhaps, the end.

“All things have a price, Elias Veturius. The price of saving her will haunt you for all your days. Will you pay it?”

This quote. Seriously. Doesn’t this just say it all? My poor boy. My poor, heroic, noble boy.

Faithful (I wanted to use fierce…but this is a given, I suppose.)

-No matter the situation, no matter how hard, how scary, how difficult…Elias is faithful-to a fault. We learn this as he pays the ultimate price in book two. You think you know, you understand-but you don’t. His hero complex is so deep rooted and unbreakable that no amount of obstacles could shake his honor. He will keep as many as he can safe, even after it’s not smart to do so (can anyone say Blood Shrike?)-namely, Helene and Laia.

Empathetic

– He always saw the inequality. He hurts when he sees youth going through what he had to. He hates it. Despises it. He sees Laia, and hates that she is stuck with the woman who would do anything to hurt you. That would brand you just to make a point. He wants things to be different…but for this to happen, he can’t escape. He has to stay…see where that bravery comes in? (I wrote this in reference to Ember (book one) when I wrote my original post that I have now since altered. It still fits, though-his empathy never ceases).

Adventurous

-He only knows the brutal and unyielding world he grew up in-but he longs for a different life-one where he can be free and without the chains that constrict his every movement. But, as mentioned above, he gets a warning before making his escape-run, and it’s a world of suffering. Stay, and perhaps make a change. In the end, he makes a run for it with the girl he can’t stay away from-he further cements that he is up for an adventure when he helps Laia attempt to rescue her brother-even as his world is falling apart.

Resilient

-He had a rough go of it in book one-and, even worse, as I mentioned above, in book two he is in for a hell of a ride. Even through his painful journey in the second book (Anyone who has read even a couple chapters of book two knows he is fighting death all through book two because of a certain showdown at the beginning) he perseveres and fights the ultimate battle for the girl he promised he would-I am seriously swooning here, guys.

                                                                                                         S P A R K

Tenacious

-Again, I know I’m a broken record-BUT DUDE. NEVER. GIVES. UP. I am super firm and serious on this. I will beat it into your heads if I have to!

Heroic

One quote.

-“Laia. The Scholar girl. Another ember waiting to burn the world down,” she says. “Will you hurt her, too?”
“Never.”

That. Is. ALL.

Eternal

-This is an odd choice of wording, but I like it for the simple fact that, if you follow this series at all, you know how this word shapes both how he enters/handles every situation, how he never gives up on what he’s going for, and, well….he certainly has a long life ahead of him, doesn’t he?

                                                                                                      R A V A G E

Repentant

-Anguished beyond words over what he had to do to survive the trials, Elias goes through many stages of grief in these two books so far-and I’m sure we’ll see much more of that in this final installment, if what the author has been saying is true (Which we all know it is).

Enraptured

-Completely smitten with Laia, Elias chooses her over everyone, in the end. Many people didn’t like this in book one, because Helene has been there for him always and he (I guess?) turns his back on her and the academy, becomes enemy number one, and ultimately runs off with a girl he barely knows. Well. I dug it. These books wouldn’t have so much angst if not for this moment-and we’re all the better for it.

…“We should talk about it.”
Oh skies. “Talk about what?”
“Whatever it is that’s bothering you. I can take a guess, but it might be better if you tell me.”
“You want to talk now? After weeks of not even looking at me?”
“I look at you.” His response is swift, his voice low. “Even when I shouldn’t.”

Anguished

-In the quotes and excerpts we have been given, it’s clear that Elias isn’t happy and wants a different card than he’s been dealt-but he’s trying his best to make the most of a bad situation-that doesn’t mean it’s not killing his hero-complex vibes because, well, duty comes first. Ugh.

Passionate

-He still very clearly cares about taking care of those he loves (ahem, Laia), and he does so with pride and with all his heart. He’s always been passionate about helping others, but Laia is dear to him, so he always is pushing it to the limit for her.

Laia is curled in a ball on the other, one hand on her armlet, fast asleep.
“You are my temple,” I murmur as I kneel beside her. “You are my priest. You are my prayer. You are my release.” Grandfather would scowl at me for sullying his beloved mantra so. But I think I prefer it this way.

Empowered

-He has a new opportunity to test his epicness…I’ll leave this word be and let’s see how he handles it.

Relentless

-This could be considered repetitive, but I think of this word more as a battle word. He sees the enemy. He barrels through-and if he can’t? He fights and fights and fights until he can’t anymore. Much like his goals, he doesn’t give up. And, I’m sorry, this is just the most wonderful quality.

 D E S T R O Y

So. Yeah. I guess I could go on and on and on…but my point is made. Elias is the hero of all heroes. I couldn’t do or say as much as I’d have liked, because, MORE spoilers than even I used, but I wanted to do something fun with a play on words. And, frankly, I’ve shoved so many quotes in your face over the last few posts I didn’t want to do that again. I hope you enjoyed it!

Moonlight and Midtown was a ton of fun and the perfect way to see what our favorite characters were up to.  Ultimately we got to watch Bryar and Elle’s shopping extravaganza and oh my gosh, it was action packed and a little bit crazy lol.  But we also got to learn more about the world that they lived in and watch Bryar and Knox start to find their place in life. This novella was a quick, lighthearted read that left me feeling even more excited for the next book in this series!

Nyxa takes a half step backward. “I command you to leave my presence.” But her words come out as a half whisper.
Nyxa is afraid.
As well she should be.
Knox and I share a quick look. There’s no need to speak. We both know what we want to do.

I loved getting a peak into Bryar’s struggles, since she learned what she was.  But the poor girl couldn’t catch a break and her wolf was uncontrollable. Thankfully she had Elle, her bestie, who was ready to take her on a shopping trip since she kept destroying her clothes every time she shifted.  And speaking of Elle, we also got to see Alex, a warlock and Knox’s best friend. The interaction between Elle and Alex was a lot of fun and I need to find out more about Elle’s past and why that hinders them from being together.  They’re so fabulous together!  See, I need that next book now lol.

Right here, this moment. This is what I like so much about being with Knox. He understands me like no one else ever has.

But my favorite in this series?  Knox. He was as seductive as ever.  And I loved what a good friend he had become to Bryar.  They worked together so well.  I mean, yes he was her mate, but still, I loved the way they meshed.  It warmed my heart how Knox would help Byrar out and that he was always by her side. Even though he had his own struggles……

His ice-blue eyes lock with mine as he twirls us around. “Say it again.”
My face turns about three shades of red. “Mate.”

Just like the first book in this series, this novella was beyond adorable.  So if you loved Wolves and Roses, definitely give this one a try.  It was a super quick read and it was a ton of fun.  I loved every minute of it!

It's become a pleasure-and there's more at risk than she ever dreamed.

Review:

*covers face* This rating hurts my heart because Lauren Layne is one of my favorite authors.  But I wasn’t able to connect to any of the characters, so I was never once pulled into the book.  Looking back, I’m sure there has to be something wrong on my end.  Especially since a few months ago I read and fell madly in love with her previous release, Runaway Groom.  If you haven’t read that one yet, definitely give it a try! It was hilarious, sigh worthy, crazy at times and so much fun!

I’m torn between regret and relief, because she’s SEC, I’m Wall Street— we’re about as compatible as a wolf and a lamb.
Though, for the life of me, I’m not sure who’s who in this scenario. – Ian

So when I put Hot Asset down, I realized that I am going to give this book another try.  It definitely deserves it!  I mean, this story is one I would normally fall in love with.  So right before the next book in this series releases, in September, I’m going to pick this back up.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed that hopefully I will make that connection and fall head over heels in love with Hot Asset.

I don’t want to play nice.
I want to fucking fight it. – Ian

Before I step away, let me tell you a little bit about what was in the pages.  I think a lot of people will love it. First we met Ian Bradley.  He was confident, charming, seductive and underneath it all he had a heart of gold.  He found himself being investigated by the SEC.  And the woman heading the investigation, Lara McKenzie, completely intrigued him.

So is Ian Bradley hot? Yes. Very. But I don’t need hot. I’d settle for someone a little plain, even a little boring, just so long as he’s loyal. – Lara

Lara was fabulous at her job.  And Ian’s case was going to help her move onto the next stage of her career, into the FBI.  Going into the FBI had been one of her lifelong goals, and her parents worked for them too.  It seemed like Ian’s case would be a solid win for Lara, but the case and Ian are not at all what she expected.

I want her to see me as something other than the fucking case. – Ian

This book is definitely for those who are into a little bit of love to hate with some forbidden angst.  And who also like to alternate between the two main characters.  There are some wonderful friends that you will meet, plus there was a little bit of a mystery which was fun.  Normally that all would amount to me gushing a ton and trying to get a lot of my friends to add this to their tbr.  But that lack of connection completely ruined my reading experience.  Sigh.  So here’s hoping you end up loving this book a lot more than I did and hopefully when I pick this one back up in the fall I will love it too!
