Synopsis:

It’s Christmastime again in Heartbreaker Bay!

When Sean O’Riley shows up at the Hartford Bed & Breakfast for his older brother’s bachelor weekend, he’s just hoping to make it through the weekend. What he’s not expecting is to come face to face with the woman he lost his virginity to a decade ago—a woman he’s never really forgotten.

The last time Lotti Hartford saw Sean, she told him she loved him while he said nothing. Now, ten years later, she’s just looking for a good time. For once, she wants to be the wild and free one, and Sean – the good time guy – is the perfect candidate.

But as the weekend continues, Sean realizes that after a lifetime of being the hook-up king, he’s ready to find happily-ever-after, and he wants it with Lotti. But will she open her heart to him again? As Christmas sweeps through the little B&B, he can only hope love and magic are in the air.

Review:

Holiday Wishes was sweet, heartwarming, and had an oh so perfect ending!  I was surprised with how much was packed into this second chance novella!  And I was surprised again with how quickly I connected to the characters and was invested in this story-line.  So I definitely wasn’t ready to say goodbye to them, but thankfully I’ll get to see them in the future books of this series.

He had to laugh. “Lotti, when I first met you, you were in PE class wearing a baggy T-shirt and sweats and I wanted you.”
“I’m being serious, Sean.”
“So am I.”

Sean is Finn’s younger brother, and he’s in charge of his brother’s joint bachelor/bachelorette party.  They’re going to spend the weekend in Napa, and the group is in tow.  So Sean ended up renting out a whole B&B, just for them.  But when they get there, he didn’t expect to see the girl that was behind the check-in counter.  Lotti was the first girl Sean ever slept with, and then he proceeded to break her heart.  And Lotti doesn’t want anything to do with Sean.

“Okay, tough girl,” he said softly, nuzzling at her throat. “No questions. No talking. You go ahead and give ignoring what’s still between us your best shot. I’ll wait right here.”

Sean is determined to make amends for how he treated Lotti ten years ago.  And he wants to prove how much he’s changed.  Lotti was rightfully stubborn and didn’t want to see how much Sean has grown up.  But it was beyond obvious how much he had changed in every single one of their interactions.  And Lotti also saw how much he had grown up when he was interacting with his friends.  But the best part?  Sean made it impossible for her to ignore him.  He was persistent and everywhere Lotti seemed to turn.  I love when a man knows what he wants and tries his hardest to win the girl.  So I easily fell for Sean, especially since he was cocky, seductive, sweet, and thoughtful.

His smile was badass wicked and filled with trouble as he put a knee on the bed and began to crawl toward her with nefarious intent in his sharp gaze.

This novella can easily be read as a standalone. And if you’re a fan of novellas that pull you in quickly, or a fan of this series or author then I definitely recommend it!  You can’t help but laugh and smile at Sean and Lotti’s interactions and there were a few fun, sexy scenes!  The only thing I could wish for, was that it was longer.  I would have loved more peeks into their past when they were younger.  But at least we will get peeks into their future, with this series future releases.

Synopsis:

She’s making a list—and checking it twice. But is there a nice guy among all her naughty exes? The New York Times bestselling author of Blurred Lines returns with a charming friends-to-lovers rom-com.

When a psychic tells spunky, superstitious Kelly Byrne that she’s already met her true love, she becomes obsessed with the idea of tracking him down before Christmas. Kelly immediately writes up an “Ex List” and starts contacting old boyfriends to figure out which one is the one. When her college sweetheart rolls into town, Kelly convinces herself that they’re meant to be. The trouble is, sparks are flying with someone she’s never given a chance: her best friend, Mark.

Mark Blakely has watched the guys on Kelly’s list break her heart, and he’s not looking forward to watching them do it all over again. Mark’s always been there for her, but the timing’s never worked out for their relationship to be something more. Now, just as Mark is ready to move on, the sexual tension between them is suddenly off the charts. With Christmas morning around the corner, he just hopes Kelly will wake up and realize that everything she wants has been right in front of her all along.

Review:

If you’re looking for a book that will put you in the perfect Christmas mood, then definitely pick up An Ex for Christmas!  Not only was it fun, flirty and sexy, but I found myself humming Christmas songs for days after I finished that last page.  It was impossible not to since we got to witness them decorating for the holidays, there was Christmas songs playing in the background and the story even took place in a setting that felt like a winter wonderland.  An Ex for Christmas became my favorite Christmas romance, and I hope you end up loving it just as much as I did!

I turn back to Mark’s house and look up at the second floor, even though I know his bedroom window faces the opposite way. As expected, there’s nothing but still darkness, and I can’t stop the sinking sensation that things are somehow changing between us. And I don’t know why, and I don’t know how to stop it.

Kelly Byrne was a character I definitely haven’t met in a book before.  She used Magic 8 balls, horoscopes and tarot cards to help determine where she should go in life.  I liked her quirky, friendly ways, especially since she was a huge ball of happy energy.  On her way home at the train station, a woman beckoned to Kelly that she had news for her.  She told Kelly that she’d already met The One, and he’d come back to her before Christmas.  Taking it as the honest truth, she made a list of her exes and slowly started meeting back up with them.

The last thing I need when I’m trying to hunt down my exes is to start getting sexy thoughts about my BFF.

When Kelly started meeting her exes I was either a laughing, cringing, or desperately needing to cover my face kinda mess.  Oh my gosh, count on being more than entertained each time she met a different ex lol.  I felt bad for her because each time her hopes were so high.  She was always so optimistic!  But then when disaster would strike, she’d be reminded all over again why that man was definitely on her ex list.  Thankfully Kelly always had a constant in her life, no matter how horrific her meet-ups were.  And that was her best friend Mark Blakely.

He doesn’t meet my eyes. Not once. Not until he lowers his hand, his fingertips brushing over my lips at the very moment his gaze lifts to mine.
It feels like an electric shock.
The touch of his fingers on my lips, the heat of his gaze, the weight of his body pinning mine to the ground . . .
Somehow all of those combined is creating the most intense, unexpectedly carnal moment of my life. My eyes flutter in confusion.
No, that can’t be right. “Carnal” isn’t a word I associate with Mark.

Kelly and Mark had been best of friends for the last ten years.  They shared a dog, a backyard and they were extremely comfortable around each other.  Yet I couldn’t help but melt during so many of their interactions.  And the thing was, Kelly started to be affected during some of those moments too.  Which she shouldn’t be, because he was just her bff right?!  Well it didn’t help that gruff, sexy Mark was kinda hard to read.  You see his actions, words or even eyes would come across in an ever so sexy way, but then the next second he’d go back to being just Mark.  So I found myself smiling and sighing out loud a lot of the times when Mark was in the picture.  I was all for Kelly taking that step to see if Mark was into her too.   Yet she didn’t want to risk their friendship and tumble down that path.  I got it, in real life I would have acted the same way that Kelly did, but since this is a book I found myself wanting to bonk her over the head ever so lightly with her Magic 8 Ball and say go after Mark.

He steps even closer, a slight smile playing at his lips. “Kell?”
“What?”
“Shut up.”
He sets a knuckle to the bottom of my chin, tilting my face toward his.
My heart’s still pounding, although now it’s not so much about panic as . . . want.
I want nothing more at this moment than his lips on mine, his hands on my back pulling me close . . .
Mark’s lips brush my cheek.
My cheek.
He pulls back slightly, eyes locking on mine for one heated heartbeat.
And then he steps away . “Night, Kell.” His voice is rough.
“Night.”
He turns and walks into the raging blizzard, leaving me staring after him, mostly oblivious to the snow that’s getting all over my kitchen floor, soaking my borrowed pajama pants.
I’m ignoring the storm outside because I’m too aware of the storm within . . . and the startling realization that I want a do-over on that mistletoe kiss.
Because a part of me wishes it had gone very, very differently.

The way the story ended *happy screaming* awwww it was the best ever!  So if you adore happy quirky females, guys that give off the gruff and sexy vibe, and a cute story line that will give you all the Christmas feels,  then definitely check out this book.  LL did a fabulous job writing this festive and fun Christmas story, and I’m hoping you’ll love it too!

Synopsis:

Clio is good at all sorts of things. As a nymph, she's great at outdoorsy nature stuff. As a nymph living in exile, she's got the "blending in with humans" thing down pat. As a nymph living in exile because she possesses the rare ability to mimic magic, she's had to pick up some unique survival skills.

But stealing from the most dangerous spell weavers in the Underworld? Not so much.

Unfortunately, that's exactly what she has to do to earn a ticket back home. Conning her way into the night realm may have gone pretty well, but now she's got a new problem. His name is Lyre and he's a sinfully alluring incubus, a dangerously skilled spell weaver, and the only thing standing between her and stealing some damn magic.

Maneuvering around him without blowing her cover shouldn't be that difficult, but chaos has been dogging her every step, monsters hide behind beautiful faces, and Lyre keeps saving her neck even though they're enemies. Kind of enemies? Either way, her mission is getting complicated fast, and in the Underworld, even one mistake could prove fatal.

Review:

The Night Realm was an intoxicating and spellbinding ride!  With a cast of characters that was enchanting, and pages that were filled to the brim with action and intrigue, it was impossible not to fall in love with this book.  Add to that a magic system and worlds that were addicting to learn about, and it was shocking how fast I flew through the pages.  I’m so happy to say that The Night Realm was such a huge win for me!

Clenching her hands until her fingernails dug into her palms, she broke into a run, fleeing the corridor, desperate to escape the building. To escape this place. To escape this world.

We first meet Clio who is a nymph and has royalty blood.  She’s been sent to Earth, from the Overworld, to be kept safe.  And not that far into the story she takes on the task to help protect her country in the Overworld, from losing an eminent war. And to complete that task she must travel to Hade’s territory, in the Underworld.  So from the first few chapters I knew that I liked Clio.  She was brave and determined, and her thoughts and actions warmed my heart.  Plus she had me cracking up at times.  She doesn’t mean to be funny, but she could be such a walking disaster.  Which is kinda shocking since it goes against her capable demeanor lol.  But it made her so down to earth and someone I easily clicked with.  I thought Clio made a fabulous heroine who constantly proved why she deserved my respect.

Lyre didn’t feel like an enemy. And that was even more dangerous.

Upon arriving in the Underworld with two body guards, Clio gets linked to work with Lyre, an incubus.  They’ve had a run in in the past…..one of those situations where Clio is a walking disaster.  Oh my gosh, I just wanted to hug that girl at times lol.  But this time around they’re to work together, since Lyre will commission the magic to help Clio’s country not lose the coming war.  Every time they’re around each other, there’s definitely lust and attraction that had me smiling a ton.  But it was their other interactions that pushed me over the edge into obsessed territory.  You see, they’re both so used to being a means to an end for others.  But they each go out of their way to help one another time and again.  And that makes them start to look at each other a little bit more.  So it doesn’t matter that Lyre runs hot to cold with Clio and it doesn’t matter that Clio is purchasing magic that Lyre struggles with, because that’s not what makes them pause.  You see, they’re enemies.  He’s from the Underworld and she’s from the Overworld.  They definitely don’t mesh together at all.  Yet it seems that fate has other plans for this slow-burn romance.

She exhaled shakily and touched her lips— the lips he had almost, almost kissed. And she reluctantly admitted that her relief wasn’t nearly as strong as her disappointment.

I just have to say that I loved Lyre!  He was beyond sexy and charismatic and so much more than meets the eye!  There’s much more that I want to say, but you’ll slowly discover all there is to know about Lyre.  And he is definitely bbf material!  So while The Night Realm ends with me needing to know what’s going to happen next, we stopped at the perfect place to take a break.  Or at least a breath….you’ll see what I mean when it comes to the action in this book!  At times it felt like their enemies and difficult situations were a mile long, but it was soooo much fun!  It makes the stakes crazy high and I can not wait to pick up the next book!!  But till then I’m looking forward to reading her other books.  I bought Chase the Dark and can’t wait to read that completed series!

“You butchered another warlord’s escort?” Lyre repeated incredulously.
“I also maimed the warlord.” He frowned. “Or maybe I killed him too. It got kind of messy at the end.”
“You …” Lyre cleared his throat. “This isn’t …
concerning for you? Won’t there be consequences?”
“Obviously.” Ash gestured in the direction of the searching soldiers. “But Samael won’t kill me. He’ll just send me back to the bastille again.”
“You’re awfully casual about impending torture.”

PS I didn’t know if I should like Ash at first, but is it horrible that all of his killings didn’t phase me?  I loved that him and Lyre formed a tentative….hmmmm well I wouldn’t call it friendship but it was definitely something.  The way they would nudge the other or even help each other out made me smile and their interactions always had me laughing like above.  I’m so excited to see what happens between the two of them next!

Synopsis:

Seventeen-year-old Bryar Rose has a problem. She’s descended from one of the three magical races—shifters, fairies, or witches. That makes her one of the Magicorum, and Magicorum always follow a fairy tale life template. In Bryar’s case, that template should be Sleeping Beauty.

“Should” being the key word.

Trouble is, Bryar is nowhere near the sleeping beauty life template. Not even close. She doesn’t like birds or woodland creatures. She can’t sing. And she certainly can’t stand Prince Philpot, the so-called “His Highness of Hedge Funds” that her aunties want her to marry. Even worse, Bryar’s having recurring dreams of a bad boy hottie and is obsessed with finding papyri from ancient Egypt. What’s up with that?

All Bryar wants is to attend a regular high school with normal humans and forget all about shifters, fairies, witches, and the curse that Colonel Mallory the Magnificent placed on her. And she might be able to do just that--if only she can just keep her head down until her eighteenth birthday when the spell that’s ruined her life goes buh-bye.

But that plan gets turned upside down when Bryar Rose meets Knox, the bad boy who’s literally from her dreams. Knox is a powerful werewolf, and his presence in her life changes everything, and not just because he makes her knees turn into Jell-O. If Bryar can’t figure out who—or what—she really is, it might cost both her and Knox their lives… as well as jeopardize the very nature of magic itself.

Review:

Wolves and Roses captivated my attention with unique ideas, characters that I quickly loved and a story-line that was tons of fun!  I was hoping to pick up a book that was entertaining and enjoyable, and by that first page I knew I had found the exact book I was looking for.  So if you adore paranormal romance that has a strong and snarky heroine, a fabulous best friend, a swoon worthy guy and a mystery that pulls you in, then definitely check out this book.

Now is not the time to worry about Knox. It’s the time to tell my best friend that I killed someone and burned her house down.
Yipes
.
Straightening my shoulders, I knock on the door. – Bryar

I’ve never read a story where characters are supposed to live out their lives according to their fairy tale theme.  What a fun idea!  They’re referred to as Magicorum and they belong to one of the three magical races: shifters, witches, or fairies.  Bryar Rose is supposed to be following her Sleeping Beauty life template, but she’s definitely failing at that.  Yeah she has three fairies watching over her, a charming Prince who wants to marry her, and she has to use an inhaler to keep from falling asleep.  But the girl could care less about following her path because she’s obsessed with finding papyri from ancient Egypt.  And she dreams about this hot guy, Knox, that is definitely not the Prince she is supposed to marry lol.

“Don’t order me around.”
Damn. I want to do more than order her around. I want to build my life around this girl . Know her thoughts. Touch her skin. Bring her into my world and never let go.
How can one woman upend your entire existence so quickly? – Knox

Ohhh I loved Bryar Rose!  From her brutally honest thoughts to letting others know her opinion, she had me cracking up with her snarky ways!  She definitely doesn’t take anyone’s garbage and I loved how she stood up for herself and those she loved.  She’s fiercely loyal, especially with her best friend Elle who is also failing at following her life template.  Elle’s is Cinderella btw.  So between Bryar hunting for papyri and Elle being an expert jewel thief and con artist, they quickly find themselves in some situations that has them befriending two guys that I love, Knox and Alex.  I loved how the four of them formed a friendship and worked together.  The way they interacted made me into a smiling and laughing fool.

I gently stroke Wolf-Knox’s neck. “What can I do to help?”
“Run from here.” Wolf-Knox’s voice is so low I can hardly hear him. “Never come back.”
My blood turns cold. “But you’ll die.”

Oh my gosh, I heart Knox so hard.  He’s a powerful werewolf and I couldn’t help but love his growly ways.  We quickly learn that he is protective, fierce and oh so sexy.  Thankfully some of the chapters are in Knox’s voice, and I loved seeing the world through his eyes.  I loved hearing what he thought of Elle, the extra clues we learned from him and the internal fights he had with his inner wolf had me cracking up.  Knox is definitely book boyfriend material!  So I desperately wanted Bryar to fall for him as fast and as hard as I did.  But here’s the thing, Bryar is stubborn and fights her attraction to Knox.

This isn’t the ending to any fairy tale template, but I’m not sure I want to follow someone else’s path anymore.
This time, the choice is mine. – Bryar

So I’m going to be purposely vague about how the plot unfolds, because it’s more fun not knowing what’s going to happen!  Just know that the ending was perfect!  It wrapped up some pressing issues, but there’s still a lot that needs to be resolved or figured out.  So yes, I can’t wait to read the next book!  I can’t wait to be surrounded by these characters I loved again.  Even if I did guess how a few things turned out, I didn’t care at all.  This book was too much fun and the writing was so easy to devour.  So until that next book releases, I’m definitely looking forward to reading other books this author has written!

REVIEW – Chasing Christmas Eve (Heartbreaker Bay #4) by Jill ShalvisChasing Christmas Eve (Heartbreaker Bay #4)
by Jill Shalvis

Synopsis:

Meet cute...

Run for the hills—temporarily. That’s Colbie Albright’s plan when she flees New York for San Francisco. Wrangling her crazy family by day and writing a bestselling YA fantasy series by night has taken its toll. In short, Colbie’s so over it that she’s under it. She’s also under the waters of a historic San Francisco fountain within an hour of arrival. Fortunately, the guy who fishes Colbie out has her looking forward to Christmas among strangers. But she’s pretty sure Spencer Baldwin won’t be a stranger for long.

Make merry...

Spence’s commitment to hiding from the Ghosts of Relationships Past means he doesn’t have to worry about the powerful—okay, crazy hot—chemistry he’s got with Colbie. Just because she can laugh at anything, especially herself... just because she’s gorgeous and a great listener…just because she “gets” Spence immediately doesn’t mean he won’t be able to let Colbie go. Does it?

…and hope for a miracle.

Now the clock’s ticking for Colbie and Spence: Two weeks to cut loose. Two weeks to fall hard. Two weeks to figure out how to make this Christmas last a lifetime.

Review:

Chasing Christmas Eve was such a charming story!  While it can read as a standalone, it did leave me wanting to go back and see how the coupled friends ended up together.  Especially since this is my first Jill Shalvis book and I was a little obsessed with another couple Elle and Archer.  So while I had a lot of names to learn, I’m so glad that they all came easily and that each of them were unique and stood out.  And when I closed the book, I was left with the same feeling after I watch a Hallmark movie.  It was just so adorable, not too much drama, I quickly liked all the characters, and the HEA was just what I was looking for.  This was such a feel good book.

“So you’re saying…you’re going to disappoint me?”
He felt his smile fade. “I have no doubt.”
She stared at him for another beat and  then nodded. “Good to know.”

Colbie Albright and Spence Baldwin were such a great match.  They’re both famous in their own ways, neither of them want to be in the spotlight, and they also both have some family drama.  They were kindred spirits in my eyes.  Yet neither one of them wants to let the other one know exactly who they are.  So it was fun watching them work towards a friendship, when they had so much attraction and chemistry between the two of them.  And while I’m one of those that loves some drama, it was actually refreshing that there truly wasn’t that much of it in Chasing Christmas Eve.  What I found in it’s place was this amazing dynamic of friendships between the people that lived or worked near Spence.

He was watching her. “So if there was a Santa Claus, what would you ask him for?” he asked.
You, she nearly said. She’d want him for Christmas and no take-backs. “I’d like my book to write itself,” she said instead.
He smiled.

My favorite thing about Spence’s world was all of the beautiful friendships that existed.  His group of friends created their own family within one another.  And it warmed my heart watching all of their interactions.   Especially with girls night out….. oh my gosh, it was hilarious and left me wanting to go back to the previous books and read the instance that they talked about.  Especially after witnessing what happened just in this book!  But I loved how the friendships helped show who Spence was, and I loved watching Colbie interact with all of them too.  It gave such a homey and more personal feel to the book.

“Colbie.”
His voice.  Low.  Sexy.  Perfect.  Was she really going to be able to walk away?  And even if she managed that, how was she going to move on and forget?

So if you adore books with a Harmark feel, a group of great friends, and a love story without a lot of drama, then you should give Chasing Christmas Eve a try.  There’s a few cheesy lines sprinkled in the first half of the book, but I’m definitely looking forward to trying more books by this author!
