Synopsis:

It’s love. Trust me.

After a lifetime on the move, Ivy Snow is an expert in all things temporary—schools, friends, and way too many Mr. Wrongs. Now that she owns a successful taco truck in San Francisco and an apartment to call home, Ivy’s reinvented life is on solid ground. And she’s guarded against anything that can rock it. Like the realities of a past she’s worked hard to cover up. And especially Kel O’Donnell. Too hot not to set off alarms, he screams temporary. If only his whispers weren’t so delightfully naughty and irresistible.

Kel, an Idaho sheriff and ranch owner, is on vacay, but Ivy’s a spicy reason to give his short-term plans a second thought. Best of all, she’s a tonic for his untrusting heart, burned once and still in repair. But when Ivy’s past intrudes on a perfect romance, Kel fears that everything she’s told him has been a perfect lie. Now, if only Ivy’s willing to share, Kel will fight for a true love story.

Review:

Wrapped up in You was a feel good story that ended with the most perfect epilogue. It was so emotional that I had tears in my eyes and you couldn’t knock the smile off my face! If you aren’t familiar with the Heartbreaker Bay Series, each book can easily be read as a standalone. Each one is about a different friend finding their happily ever after, but I definitely recommend going back and reading the previous books in this series! I heart them so much! So if you adore love stories that are complex and heartfelt, a group of friends you want to be a part of and a hero that’ll make you swoon hard, then pick this one up!

She’d been making up stories about her family since she’d been little, each different, each more exciting than the last, and all as far from the truth as she could possibly get. Because the truth wasn’t a story, it was a nightmare.

I loved Ivy Snow in the previous book Playing for Keeps, since she was Sadie’s best friend. Ivy was sassy, tough and always helped others. And I loved that she took care of herself and ran the local taco truck. But while growing up, Ivy had a hard life. She was wounded and damaged from her past. Even her closest friend Sadie didn’t truly know all there was about her. But from the moment Ivy met Kel, there were sparks between them and just his presence alone threatened to tear down her high walls.

“Okay, I’ll give this to you—you’re funny. And maybe also sexy as hell, but this isn’t happening, Cowboy.”
He’d take sexy as hell any day of the week. “We’re just talking.”
“Uh-huh,” she said dryly.

Kel O’Donnell was the cousin of Caleb, who was engaged to Ivy’s best friend. He was a cowboy from Idaho, who was on a two week leave from being a sheriff. I quickly fell for Kel, it was so effortless. He was a good guy who was protective of his friends and jumped right into situations to help others. But there was so much mystery surrounding this man. From why he was taking a leave to what was going on with his family that lived in SF. While we slowly started to learn about his past, I just wanted to hug and protect him, and never let him go.

He hadn’t had much to smile about in a damn long time, but something about Ivy, hell, everything about Ivy made him feel . . . lighter.

Kel and Ivy felt like two peas in a pod. They were both damaged by their pasts and jaded from family. Plus they both had huge walls around their hearts. But any time they were together, sparks flew and their banter made me smile and laugh. It all felt so natural, but at the same time magical. And while Ivy tried to put up a fight, to not let him get to her, I loved that she started to waiver when mystery and suspense took hold of her life. But he was supposed to head back home to Idaho after two weeks in San Francisco. And while Ivy had never put roots down, this was the first time she truly had a home and friends.

He stroked the pad of his thumb over her lower lip, kissed it again and then did what he didn’t want to do, what he was starting to realize he would never want to do—leave her.

Wrapped up in You was a complex love story that will pull at your heart. Ivy and Kel both made mistakes with each other and they had a very bumpy path. And while this was an emotional story, there was the banter, tentative friendship and heat between Kel and Ivy that rounded out this story perfectly. Plus their friends added so much lightness too. So yes, I absolutely adored this book and I can’t wait to read the next one in the Heartbreaker Bay Series!

Adam Moynihan from Every Other Weekend by Abigail Johnson
* Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

When we first meet Adam, he is in a very dark place. His eldest brother has died in a very tragic accident and as a result, his parents have separated. With this separation, he and his other brother, are required to go back and forth from his family home to his father’s apartment every other weekend. Adam is angry at the world, blames his father for his crumbling family and is constantly arguing with his brother. Adam’s salvation comes in the form of his neighbor Jolene, who is also required to spend time at her father’s apartment every other weekend. Over time, Adam begins to adapt to his situation and even tries to correct it, but he also knows that he’s risking his relationship with Jolene if his family reunites and the visits to the apartment complex cease. How much more tortured and star-crossed can you get?

He stopped halfway inside the building and took a deep breath without taking his eyes from me. Then he dropped his bag to the floor and crossed the lobby in three long strides, sending my heart pounding. His arms went around me, and my feet were lifted from the ground as his face was buried in my shoulder. If he noticed how I stiffened when he embraced me, he didn’t show it. “I really needed you to be here, right here. I wouldn’t have made it another step. How’d you know that?”

Dante from Legendary (Caraval #2) by Stephanie Garber
* Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

“If you’re here to learn about Legend,” he said, “I can tell you more than anyone inside there.”

“Would you tell me who he is?” Tella asked.

“You know I can’t do that.”

“You could if you were Legend.”

Dante’s voice rumbled with a laugh. “If I was Legend I’d definitely never tell you.”

“Because you don’t trust me?”

“No,” he answered slowly, gently tugging her even closer. “I’d hold on to my secret because I’d want to keep playing the game with you, and if I told you the truth it would spoil all the fun.”

Vicious from Vicious (Sinners of Saint #1) by LJ Shen

“I want you,” he said simply. “Just you. Nothing else. Only ever you,” he breathed out in pain, closing his eyes. “Fuck, Emilia. You.”

Penn from Pretty Reckless by L.J. Shen

I love you, Daria Followhill, and I think you love me, too. In fact, I think we fell at the same time. You, like rain, in drizzles, over the weeks. Me, like the fucking sky above my head, all at once, crashing without the faintest chance of stopping.

Christian Allister from The Maddest Obsession (Made #2) by Danielle Lori
* Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

Christian Allister was a Fed who was involved in the mafia.  His many shades of grey bled together and lead him again and again to the dark side.   He was cold, calculated and in control.  Yet it was impossible for me not to love him, especially when he was around Gianna and let his guard down for a second.  Christian was seductive, dark, protective and I was obsessed with him.

His hand on me, rough, and covered in the blood of all his enemies— and most likely innocents— shouldn’t affect me the way it did. But I was burning up, and I needed more. So much more.

Her Husband from Soul in Darkness by Wendy Higgins
* Review * Amazon * Goodreads *

Psyche was fated to marry a monster who was described as a dark-deeded winged serpent.  Yet her husband wasn’t anything like she expected.  He was compassionate, heartfelt, listened and tried to make her happy, I absolutely loved her husband.  I want to say sooooooo much more but I can’t, you just have to read the book. ♥

 “I cannot say all the things I wish to say.” His voice was deeper and huskier than ever, sending a ripple through me. “But if you listen, Psyche, listen to my touch…perhaps you will hear.”

Evie from The Darkest Star (Origin #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
*Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

I had no clue how I would feel towards Evie, aka Evelyn Dasher.  Her father played a horrific role in The Lux Series and I hated him with a passion.  But right from that first page, I loved Evie.  She was just so relatable, logical, sweet, kind and had the hugest heart ever.  Plus I loved that she didn’t just fall for Luc either, she made him work for it!

Our stares connected , and the effect was instantaneous. Everything around us faded, and there was just us, and this . . . this sensation of falling. I couldn’t look away as this feeling surfaced, rushing to the top.
I’ve been here before.
My breath caught as a wave of tight shivers rippled over my skin. That thought didn’t make sense. I hadn’t been here with him before.

Sunny from Sunset Rising (Sunset Rising #1) by S.M. McEachern
*Review * Amazon * Goodreads *

I loved Sunny right away!  She was fierce, brave and extremely loyal.  Plus I loved her endurance, strength and how she always worked at making herself better.  She was someone people could look up to and respect, so I instantly connected with her.

My voice caught on hitch as tears stung my eyes, and I shook my head and silently admonished myself because crying was such a weak thing to do. And there was no room for weakness in the Pit.

Psyche from Soul in Darkness by Wendy Higgins
* Review * Amazon * Goodreads *

Psyche proved herself that she was born to be a queen, when she agreed to marry a monster to help her village.  She was brave, spirited, determined, smart and I absolutely loved her!

All I knew for a fact was that if he was an enemy, he was the most dangerous enemy possible, because when I was with him, my heart, my body, and my soul wanted him.

Franny from The Raging Ones (The Raging Ones #1) by Krista and Becca Ritchie
*Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

I LOVEDDD Franny so much.  She grows so much into herself as the series progresses and I loved watching her grow into her potential.  I loved that she questioned everything and wouldn’t rest until she got answers. Most of all, I loved the closeness she had with Court and Mykal and then her friends at Stardust and eventually Stork, too.

Safi from The Witchlands Series by Susan Dennard
* Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

She is SO badass and has the funniest insults of all times!

“Yes,” Safi breathed, swaying into one of the men holding her up. She flashed a grin at him and said, “I’m Safiya fon Hasstrel, and I can do anything.”

Iseult from The Witchlands Series by Susan Dennard
* Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

Our OTHER resident badass.  I love the friendship between Safi and Iseult.  Might be one of my favorites in a series of all time!

“I hate this. Both the storm and the plan. Why does it have to be ‘we’? Why not just me?”

“Because ‘just me’ isn’t who we are,” Iseult hollered back. “I’ll always follow you, Safi, and you’ll always follow me. Threadsisters to the end.”

Mare from House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig
* Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

This book honestly came out of nowhere and absolutely surprised me in the best possibly way. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC and after the first chapter, I was absolutely hooked. One of the main reasons was how much I loved the main character, Annaleigh. Here is a girl who has lived through unspeakable tragedy, with multiple members of her family dying, many under mysterious circumstances. But nonetheless, she still continues to fight for her family and tries to figure out what is happening to her and her family. I loved Annaleigh’s dedication and concern for her sisters and her blossoming relationship with Cassius, but most of all, I loved how strong and brave she was, even under the most dire circumstances.

Evie from The Diviners (The Diviners #1) by Libba Bray
*Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

Some mornings, she’d wake and vow, Today, I will get it right. I won’t be such an awful mess of a girl. I won’t lose my temper or make unkind remarks. I won’t go too far with a joke and feel the room go quiet with disapproval. I’ll be good and kind and sensible and patient. The sort everyone loves.

But by evening, her good intentions would have unraveled.

Celia from The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
*Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

Celia is hard to quote because…everything she and Marco say is so magnificent and bold and beautiful…and the story is shrouded in mystery. So what quote? This one just stuck with me, and I really loved it…Celia has a way of putting simple statements into words that I, myself, could not have expressed so perfectly.

“You’re in the right place at the right time, and you care enough to do what needs to be done. Sometimes that’s enough.”

Claire from Outlander (Outlander #1) by Diana Gabaldon
*Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

They’re both wonderful quotes of fragility and fierce determination she can’t quite conquer, in these moments.  Otherwise she’s a bossy boots. I love her!

…to step outside the group, let alone to stand against it, was for uncounted thousands of years death to the creature who dared it. To stand against a crowd would take something more than ordinary courage; something that went beyond human instinct. And I feared I did not have it, and fearing, was ashamed.

***

I felt as fragile and as brilliant as the glass, as though I would shatter with a touch, and fall in glittering fragments to the floor. If I had meant to spare either Jamie’s emotions or my own, it seemed I was very much too late

BOOK REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Helix (International Sensory Assassin Network #2) by Mary TingHelix (International Sensory Assassin Network #2)
by Mary Ting

Synopsis:

ALLIANCES ARE FORMING. THE RESISTANCE IS GROWING.
EVERYTHING IS ABOUT TO CHANGE.

With her memory still fragmented, Ava returns to the International Sensory Assassin Network (ISAN) to find the twin sister she never knew she had.

But as Ava hunts for information, she finds herself tangled in a web of yet more lies and conspiracy. The Helix serum may not be required to access her superpowers, and the number of male assassins-previously considered too volatile to tolerate Helix-is growing in every territory.

The more Ava uncovers, the more of a threat she becomes to ISAN. Her only salvation may be to join the rebels-if she isn't killed first.

Review:

Helix was an action packed ride that had me on the edge of my seat.  The story was rich and intricate, the characters had my emotions pulled every which way and I loved how the stakes were even higher!  This book was just as addicting as the first, and I loved being back in this world.  If you love dystopian and books that play out like a movie, then you have to pick up this series!

I wasn’t just a daughter whose father had experimented on her. I was the very thing ISAN should fear.

✮ A Different Take:

There was nothing I wouldn’t do for her, even give up my own life. She was my world. No matter how long it took to get her memory back, I would be patient. But we were running out of time.

This story started out with Rhett’s point of view!  And we switched back and forth between Ava and Rhett throughout the story.  I was dying to get into Rhett’s head, in ISAN, and now we got to hear every single thought of his.  It added so much emotion and allowed us to learn about Rhett inside and out.  I absolutely loved how much depth it added to the story!

✮ Love is Powerful:

I love you with every breath, with every fiber of my being. My favorite place in the world is next to you. – Rhett to Ava

This story held the most beautiful love story.  With little pieces of the past coming back to Ava, it filled my heart with so many emotions.  There were moments that made me smile, made me have tears in my eyes and others that gutted me.  We got to see every single side of Ava and Rhett, and it made me love them that much more.  What they would do for each other?  It. Was. Breathtaking.  If you like to read about a power couple with an ever lasting love story, Ava and Rhett are it!

✮ Friends are your Family:

I ran to a hole in the floor and caught a glimpse below. Gunshots echoed and red Taser beams flashed across the darkness. I had no choice. My team needed me.
I jumped in just as the floor sealed.

The side characters in this series had so much life and shined so brightly!  We got to spend time and learn even more about Brooke, Tamara, Ozzie, and Reyna.  And while yes they were two groups of friends, they felt more like family to me.  They had each other’s backs.  They trusted each other.  They would even sacrifice it all for one another.

✮ Action and Twists:

“You’re a traitor. You’re a monster. You made me do what I had to do. I had to … You made me forget Rhett . Forget Ozzie. Forget Reyna . This is all your fault. My father. My sister. My mother …” My lips quivered as the words died on my tongue, and I couldn’t hold it any longer. I choked on my words and sobbed.

The action and peril was intense, and I loved how this story continued to build and grow from the first book.  It became even more intricate and I soaked in every single tiny detail I could.  Especially since we were starting to get pieces to the bigger puzzle.  We still have a lot to learn, but what we did learn in this book?  It was exciting!  But there was one twist I never saw coming.  My mind was blown!  And it made me want to go back and skim certain parts of the first book and parts of the second book too.  So I did.  And ohhhhhhhh it was such a tricky and genius twist, I loved it!

Breathless. Speechless. His words filled me. A warm tingle traveled through my veins. His featherlight fingers journeyed up my arm to the curve of my neck, and then his thumb glided over my mouth.

Helix ended at the perfect spot.  I loved that we could finally have a moment to breathe, but at the same point I’m dying to know what happens next.  Especially since I’m not exactly sure how everything is going to play out.  So if you love action packed stories, intricate characters and a story line that’ll keep you glued to the pages, definitely add this series to your tbr!

PS There was a line in Chapter 4 of ISAN that made me think I knew something about Ava’s past and I can’t wait to see if I guessed correctly or not in the next book.  Because I know we’ll get our answer in there, eeks, I can’t wait to find out!

Jamie from A Study in Charlotte (Charlotte Holmes #1) by Brittany Cavallaro
*Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

I’d been thinking for so long that what I wanted from Holmes was—everything. Like this thing between us was a Wonderland rabbit hole, that we could fall endlessly and never hit the bottom. I wanted us to belong to each other, completely, in a way where no one else could come close.

Marco from The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
*Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

“Celia, wait,” Marco says, standing but not moving closer to her. “You are breaking my heart. You told me once that I reminded you of your father. That you never wanted to suffer the way your mother did for him, but you are doing exactly that to me. You keep leaving me. You leave me longing for you again and again when I would give anything for you to stay, and it is killing me.”

“It has to kill one of us,” Celia says quietly.”

Sam from The Diviners (The Diviners #1) by Libba Bray
*Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

“Well, maybe you can give him a noodge?”

“A what?”

“A noodge. A little prodding,” Sam explained. “I’m getting antsy here.”

“Fine. I’ll send him an urgent letter.” At the door, she wrinkled her nose. “Noodge? Is that a real word?”

“It’s Yiddish. Like… Ikh hob dikh lib.”

Evie narrowed her eyes in suspicion. “What does that mean?”

Sam smiled. “Maybe one day I’ll tell you.”

Grant Sanchez from Fraternize (Players Game #1) by Rachel Van Dyken
*Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

Grant Sanchez walked into the story and he stole my breath.  He made me laugh, smile and I loved his friendly personality.  But every single time he picked up Emerson, when her heart was hurting, he made me fall even harder for him.

 “Why?” I had a hard time finding my voice as he slowly moved his head back up. It was impossible not to feel the heat from his body.

He stopped, looking me in the eye. “Because one day, he’s going to regret walking away from you. And I want to be there when it’s too late—when you’re in my arms, my bed instead.”

Colt James from It Started with a Cowboy (Cowboys of Creedence #3) by Jennie Marts
*Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

Colt James was swoon worthy, sexy, charming and I just wanted to steal him out of this book.  I loved his friendly, easy-going nature and what a good guy he was.  He was always helping others and his actions showed how sweet, thoughtful and kind-hearted he was.  I fell hard for him!

“What if I fall?” she whispered.
“It’s okay to fall.” He gazed down at her, his expression sincere, and it felt like he was talking about something else, something deeper.

Landon from If the Summer Lasted Forever by Shari L. Tapscott
*Review * Amazon * Goodreads *

I’m obsessed with fake boyfriend/girlfriend books and this one stole my heart.  Landon was charming, adorable and made me constantly smile.  He would say and do the cutest things ever and while Lacey tried to keep her distance from him, it was impossible.  He was such a sweetheart and I wanted to steal Landon right out of the book!

 “We’re not in public,” I remind him when he brushes his lips against my jaw. It’s my last noble effort to keep things simple.
“No, we’re not.”
“I thought we weren’t going to—”
“I changed my mind.”

Mykal from The Raging Ones (The Raging Ones #1) by Krista and Becca Ritchie
*Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

“You’ve stolen my heart, you little crook.”

His smile only stretches further and brighter. “My most valuable theft.”

Silas from Superfan (Brooklyn #3) by Sarina Bowen
*Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

Silas is a character that readers had met earlier on the in series as a side character.  He was always a sweet guy who had a crush on Delilah Sparks but getting his story and getting to know HOW that “crush” came about was so fun.  He basically is a perfect book boyfriend and is always there for Delilah time after time. It was so wonderful to read.

Isaac from Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

*Review * Amazon * Book Depository * Goodreads *

I know I’m cheating by picking Alex and Henry together, but to me, they are a pair I can’t separate. So I’m going to talk about them both. When I tried to think of any other BFFs that made me feel more gooey and warm, I couldn’t think of anyone else other than these two. Alex and Henry have taken up a portion of my heart with their love story, which is in no small part to how kind they are to so many people in their lives, especiallytheir family and friends. There’s is nothing they wouldn’t do for each other (which is shown over and over again), as well as those they love. Alex and Henry love each other unconditionally and refuse to let any of the major hurdles stop them. Their love is rooted in friendship and understanding and each bring out the best qualities in each other. I could go on for hours, gushing over my love for these two boys, but just read the book yourself. You won’t regret it.

“I thought, this is the most incredible thing I have ever seen, and I had better keep it a safe distance away from me. I thought, if someone like that ever loved me, it would set me on fire. And then I was a careless fool, and I fell in love with you anyway. When you rang me at truly shocking hours of the night, I loved you. When you kissed me in disgusting public toilets and pouted in hotel bars and made me happy in ways in which it had never even occured to me that a mangled-up, locked-up person like me could be happy, I loved you. And then, inexplicably, you had the absolute audacity to love me back. Can you believe it? Sometimes, even now, I still can’t.”
