Synopsis:

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

I. Am. DONE.

I do NOT like books that manipulate me. I do NOT like authors who think it teaches life lessons by making everything literally the WORST scenario possible. I do NOT like books that I endorse, tell 100 people to read (when I’m at 47%) because it was so amazing-wonderful-addicting-beautiful, and then have to eat crow because a million dreadful things have to happen to get to the fucking point.

And for those who ADORED this book, do NOT come at me and tell me I am wrong, didn’t understand the message, whatever. I do NOT like being manipulated (SEE ABOVE) when I was already okay with how things would eventually turn out. I didn’t need five more fucking stabs in the stomach to get the fucking message.

For those who keep talking about all their feelings and how they are having trouble writing a review because of all their feeeeeelings…that’s manipulation you’re feeling, people. And I am so mad I don’t care who I’m offending. I loved the idea behind this book. I did. And even though I felt so much love in one way, I was okay with the devastation everyone spoke of. But then-All. That.

SHIT.

I will never forgive Hoover for this. Ever. I think I am FINALLY done this time. I am ALWAYS the black sheep on her books…and I have no fucking clue why I keep coming back for more. Probably because I loved Miles (THE ONLY BOOK I’VE EVER LOVED BY HER, making me the opposite of everyone, yet again) so much and want another win…but there’s only so much bullshit I can ingest per author and she might have just met her quota.

And it’s this author’s twisted sense of life lessons we need to learn. Oh, and PS, I LOVED BOTH GUYS SO MUCH IT HURTS-so don’t even try that one on me.

Sorry, guys. I slept on it, and I was even madder today. And I assume my attitude concerning this novel will only get worse, so it’s best I post today and let it be.

Thanks, Karen!! SO MUCH RAGE!! I’m happy someone understands that I’m not trying to attack anyone, I just can’t stand when someone is overhyped for books that only break your heart…with no good reason!! BULL SHIT! Anyway lol Thanks for your continuing support ♥

I have decided that CoHo is just not an author for me. I have read a few other books of hers and thought they were okay. Thats it, just okay. This one, I barely made it through. And everyone RAVES about it. I feel like I am missing something. Oh well!

No you are so right, Samantha!!! She is literally nothing special! Even in the only book I loved by her, it still had some very questionable past events…so. No, you are not missing anything! Over hyped should be her middle name!

Everything about this —yes ,yes ,yes!! I stumbled across this blog because I was literally so confused after I finished this book that I had to Google and see what other people were saying. I bought this book because good reads and Amazon had it blown out of the water… I could not stop rolling my eyes as I was reading. I finished the book in 24 hours because I kept waiting for the hook only to find out that it would never come…just for the whole book to just be this over sensationalized melodramatic saga.. Everything was so cheesy and unrealistic …… Like really Lilly so happens to stumble upon these guys who are just sooooooo in love with Her and turn out to be wildly successful with bags of issues. And she breaks up with her baby daddy in the hospital? Come on really…. Do not get me started on the epilogue I literally almost had to find a trashcan to throw up ..she should’ve stuck to one big issue.. This book had good intentions but unfortunately was plagued by the shallow attempt to create a page turner. You hit the nail on the head !!! this book was pure manipulation to bring the reader to worst-case dreadful scenarios and force emotion out of us.

Omg! I’m SO sorry I didn’t respond…I didn’t see this!!! I had a tragedy happen around this time and yeah…comments got away from me.

But BELIEVE me when I say that this piece of garbage STILL makes me angry. It was so dumb-people get so upset that I didn’t like it..but why?? I’m ONE person!!! This book is like any of her other groups. If you are a Hoover groupie, you love it. End of story. Not all of us are so blind. Bleh.

      Thanks for commenting <3

yes. I was prepared to read it so to have my emotion drained. the author tried to manipulate my emotions to what they already were and it made me so mad. I kept reading and it was painful. I just wanted to get it done so I could donate it. I can’t not read a book I purchased new. looking forward to donating this got me through the rest of the book although I felt bad putting it out there for someone else to stumble across and be manipulated too.

I totally agree! The writing is mediocre at best and portraying Ryle as such an unlikable character portrays abusers as they simply are not. Abusers are likable, that’s how they trap people. It also stigmatises PTSD as apparently that’s why he’s an abuser? That’s not what make you one. Anyways most of the book is wattpad cringe
