Synopsis:

Even in Grundy, Alaska, it’s unusual to find a naked guy with a bear trap clamped to his ankle on your porch. But when said guy turns into a wolf, recent southern transplant Mo Wenstein has no difficulty identifying the problem. Her surly neighbor Cooper Graham—who has been openly critical of Mo’s ability to adapt to life in Alaska—has trouble of his own. Werewolf trouble.

For Cooper, an Alpha in self-imposed exile from his dysfunctional pack, it’s love at first sniff when it comes to Mo. But Cooper has an even more pressing concern on his mind. Several people around Grundy have been the victims of wolf attacks, and since Cooper has no memory of what he gets up to while in werewolf form, he’s worried that he might be the violent canine in question.

If a wolf cries wolf, it makes sense to listen, yet Mo is convinced that Cooper is not the culprit. Except if he’s not responsible, then who is? And when a werewolf falls head over haunches in love with you, what are you supposed to do anyway? The rules of dating just got a whole lot more complicated. . . .

Just confess already : Don’t you die to know what happens when a stubborn Southern Belle meets a sulky hot werewolf in Alaska? Don’t be shy, that’s gonna be so much fun!

Well, now, I’m just going to say it : This book turned me schizophrenic. Sorry about that. (NOT SORRY! JUST READ IT! NAKED HOT WEREWOLVES! OKAY MOSTLY ONE! *cough* COOPER! *cough*) Okaaaaay, that’s gonna be hard.

“Well, that cinched it. He was an asshole. I was definitely going to end up sleeping with him.”

Lookthere’s an alpha-male. Who is a werewolf. Oh, FUCK. Save me from these protective douches who think that women are better rudely pinned against a wall before talked to –

BUT WAIT! COOPER! I JUST LOVE THIS GRUMPY ASSHOLE! Wait – NO. He’s adorable : I can’t help it, there’s just something I found absolutely endearing when it comes to wolves. JACKASS. But so damn cute. FUCKING STUBBORN. Yet he respects Mo’s choices and never puts her down.

“There is no wolf. This was all just a dream,” he said in a deep, resonant, Obi-Wan Kenobi voice, and waved his hand in front of my face as if to project his Jedi mind trick. My eyes narrowed at him. He shrugged. “It was worth a shot.”

Sigh. I’m not going to lie, the “asshole (very, very, very) secretly sweet guy” trope works with me in one and only one situation : when the female lead is a (snarky) kick-ass. Indeed I just can’t deal with heroines who shy away and look down when meeting the Big. Strong. Man. *shudders*

No worries here. MEET MO! A witty and hilarious heroine who isn’t afraid to say what she wants – Hell no, she’s stubborn, never listens when asked to stay safe, well, she goes her own way without being annoying. I repeat, she’s NEVER, even ONCE, annoying. God I love her.

“The rational side of my brain had a hard time catching up to my rampant disbelief. I mean, it made sense on a certain level. The man had too much general pissiness to fit into one corporeal form. “

In a nutshell : she fights an angry wolf with a fire extinguisher, calls (repeatedly) Mr. Big.Bad.Wolf on his shit, cooks incredible cakes and has a passion for expensive underwear. Plus, she’s got no problem to buy an economy super big box of condoms and joke about it (and about huge… about everything including proportionality, let’s say). In a word : she’s plain awesome. By the way, she’s the perfect age. What? Isn’t 30 the perfect age? HUH? WHAT? OF COURSE IT’S MY AGE, DUH. NOW NOD AFTER ME.

I’M WAITING.

Told you it made me schizophrenic right? I mean, I couldn’t stop my ANNOYING AS HELL inner voice whispering…

♫ ♪ *instaluuuuust…….* – YES BUT NO INSTALOVE! LOVE/HATE PEOPLE! LOVE/HATE!

♫ ♪ *prrrrrrrrrredictable……* (yes, because my little voice comes as all Voldemortly sometimes, don’t pay attention) – YES BUT HOT CHEMISTRY! NAKED WEREWOLF! WHAT DO YOU MEAN I ALREADY SAID IT?

♫ ♪ *alphamaaaaale* OH, COME ON. MO CAN HANDLE HIM.

“With a snarl, I raised my knee with lightning speed, right into Cooper’s now-bulging zipper. I slid out of his embrace and stood panting beside him as he leaned against the wall for support while his crotch recovered.
“What the hell?” he grunted.
“You don’t get to kiss me,” I told him. (…) “I do not mess around with men who don’t even like me. Just stop screwing with my head, Cooper. Leave me alone.”

NOW BACK OFF INNER VOICE. I’M LAUGHING MY ASS OFF.

Well, that was rather hysterical. Forgive me?

Next, please?

Synopsis:

Sometimes the wrong choice can be just right . . .

Fun and fearless, Cora Lewis knows how to keep her tattooed "bad boy" friends at the Marked in line. But beneath all that flash and sass is a broken heart. Cora won't let herself get burned again. She's waiting to fall in love with the perfect man—a baggage-free, drama-free guy ready for commitment. Then she meets Rome Archer.

Rome Archer is as far from perfect as a man can be. He's stubborn, rigid, and bossy. And he's returned from his final tour of duty more than a little broken. Rome's used to filling many roles: big brother, doting son, supersoldier—but none of those fit anymore. Now he's just a man trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life while keeping the dark demons of war and loss at bay. He would have been glad to suffer through it alone, until Cora comes sweeping into his life and becomes a blinding flash of color in a sea of gray.  Perfect may not be in the cards, but perfectly imperfect could just last forever . . .

Review:

There’s something about the Marked Men series that makes it so easy to slip back into their world.  To re-join this group of friends and watch all of their dynamics and interactions unfold was so much fun.  I have missed them!  Cora and Rome were the perfect couple to drag me back into this series!  Their story was adorable and fierce.  They both burned bright, so when they were together their interactions were intense, sexy and heartfelt.  Now I have to finish this series!

“We can go as many rounds as you want, Captain No-Fun, you don’t scare me.”
………..
He blinked his eyes at me and we had a stare-down, for a second I wasn’t sure if he was going to scoop me up or push me down. Instead he just shook his head and whispered so quietly that I thought it could have been my imagination had I not seen his lips move, “That’s good, because most of the time I’m fucking scared shitless of myself.” – Cora

Ohhh, we get to step right back into that scene, at the end of Jet and Ayden’s story, where the whole gang is having a bbq at Rule and Shaw’s new house.  And Cora dumps a beer on Rome’s head.  What a hilarious and perfect way for Cora and Rome’s interactions to being!  You see, Rome is Rule’s older brother who is back from war.  He was injured while stationed overseas and has just left the military.  He is lost, grumpy and the huge looming horrible mood at all of their shindigs.  Cora works at the shop with Rule and the rest of the guys.  She cares for all of them deeply, but she can’t keep her mouth shut, doesn’t take crap from anyone and is protective of her friends.  So when Cora stands up to Rome, it is fiery and fun!  And I loved how she called him Captain No-Fun, ha!  But neither of them can deny their intense chemistry, and that chemistry is about to make them embark on a journey they never thought they would!

I got used to everyone needing me, to them relying on me , and now that I wasn’t needed anymore I simply just didn’t know what to do with myself. That honestly terrified me more than any war zone or bar brawl with armed bikers ever could. – Rome

I adored Rome in Rule’s book.  He was the big brother, the one who tried to help set Rule straight, helped give Shaw ‘big brother’ advice, he was everyone’s rock.  And now he’s just a shell of himself.  He is lost, confused, unsure of where to go and what to do with his life.  My heart hurt for him.  Clearly both of the Archer’s brothers have tons of baggage in common. But on top of that, he suffers from PSTD.  It was beyond horrifying.  I could feel him spiraling down while being suffocated from his confusion, hurt and suffering.  But when Cora stepped into his life, he could finally find a tiny bit of light.

Rome was not on my agenda, he was not what I was looking for, but I couldn’t stop thinking about him and all his imperfections. That wasn’t good. – Cora

I always liked Cora in Rule and Jet’s story.  She was a great friend to everyone and was always no-nonsense.  She called it like it was and was someone that you knew where you stood and would have your back in the blink of an eye.  In this book, I got an even clearer picture of how intense and feisty she was!  And while she suffers from her own baggage from a broken engagement and refusing to settle down with anyone who is short of perfect, I loved how she tried her hardest to pull Rome out from his downward spiral.  Together, they were imperfectly perfect for each other, as Shaw said.

What if he’s your imperfect Mr. Perfect? – Shaw

So while I still love Rule and Shaw’s book the most so far, Rome and Cora’s story was charming and enjoyable.  While I guessed how some events played out, I never would have guessed how hard one of them impacted me.  That I would be trying my hardest not to bawl my eyes out.  That I would be biting my lip so hard in hopes that I would get my chin to stop quivering.  Wow, those last few chapters blew me away!  Now I can’t wait to finish the rest of the Marked Men’s stories!

P.S. I love how we get to watch the female friendships and male friendships take place.  They felt real, heartfelt and I loved how they weren’t filled in drama and betrayal.  They were just honest to goodness close friends.

Synopsis:

Jazz Dent has never been closer to catching his father.

Jazz has been shot and left to die in New York. His girlfriend, Connie, is in the clutches of Jazz's monstrous father, Billy--the world's most notorious serial killer. And his best friend, Howie, is bleeding to death on the floor of Jazz's new home.

Somehow, these three must rise above the horrors and find a way to come together in pursuit of Billy.

But then Jazz crosses a line he's never crossed before, and soon the entire country is wondering: "Like father, like son? Who is the true monster?"

From New York City to the small town of Lobo's Nod, the chase is on, and this time, Jazz is the hunted, not the hunter--while Billy Dent lurks in the shadows.

And beyond Billy? Something much, much worse. Prepare to meet...the Crow King.

From acclaimed author Barry Lyga comes the shocking conclusion to the bestselling I Hunt Killer trilogy.

He [Howie] held out his hands, arms outstretched, ready for the bro hug that would come.
Instead, Jazz laughed.
The laughter was quick, unexpected, and bright. Jazz dropped the pickax and shovel with an ill-considered clang and leaned against the car as he caught his breath.
Oh, holy hell. He’s lost it. He’s seriously lost it.
“You okay?” he asked as Jazz stooped to pick up the tools.
“I’ve never been okay,” Jazz told him, and walked away.

Holyyy shit…that was a lot of epic in one book. I’m just….at a loss for words. The beginning started out with a bang, and that, I knew, was a certainty going in. But after all the cleaning up that had to be done after that shot in the chest that can only be described as a ‘white-knuckle cliffy’ at the end of the previous installment, I started to get nervous. After all the amazing-I repeat-AMAZING peril from book two, I didn’t see how, even as dire as the circumstances were through the whole novel, this book could be near as good as the last book. But, oh…dear….sweet….Jesus this mother fuckin’ book was everything I could ask for and more. HOLY SHIT I am just astounded by the awesomeness that was this story!!! What and how and why and who and blah blah blah how did he make up this story????? The epicness that jumps off of every page makes a ridiculous fangirl out of me, and for once I just don’t care! I love this book so much it hurts.

What would come next wasn’t a matter of intellect or reason or even mere emotion. It was as basic as biology. It was blood and sinew and brain matter. Raw.

I am so emotionally spent. This series reached deep into my heart, my mind, my soul and pulled out all the things that make up a perfect novel to me. There wasn’t one moment I wasn’t on the edge of my seat. Not one page passed where I didn’t fret over the mental state of Jazz’s mind. I still laughed and I still obsessed, but it was a different kind of obsession. In the previous works, I was fully invested in the crimes-who the killer was, what they were playing at, if Jazz would find the murderer(s) before it was too late, and, most of all, if they’d finally catch up to Jazz as he closed in on their string of killings. Jazz is, was, and forever will be my biggest concern. Always. So, naturally, wouldn’t my obsession grow, expand, adapt when the nature of the story became about Jazz’s sanity, mind, soul, his search for redemption and, most of all, to end Billy Dent’s reign of terror? Of course it would! DUH.

What is like to go looking for your soul, only to learn you never had one to begin with?

Like I’ve said before, this series is character driven-if you don’t connect or care for Jasper, then you likely won’t find much to enjoy about this series. I mean, yeah, there’s the idea that a killer is within grasp at any waking moment and there’s also his palpable love for his girlfriend, Connie, and the strong, everlasting friendship with his best buddy, Howie. Who, by the way, became a favorite character of mine-his loyalty and devotion for his best friend who was slowly losing his mind in his quest to end Billy Dent broke my heart and made reading his POV something I actually looked forward to. But if you don’t at least like Jazz a little, you’re wasting your time. But How dare you, if that becomes the case-ugh, I can’t even imagine a world where people don’t love Jazz. Inconceivable.

Just sayin’.

“So, now what?”
“Can’t tell you.”
“You wound me.”
“Well, you wound easily.”

-Lmao, Howie and Jazz

Malice, death, truths, lies, betrayals, they go hand in hand with one another. Jasper is about to learn the true identity of the crow king. So many possibilities, so much speculation, but only one possible outcome that can rock you to your core and make both your eyes and stomach bleed. The truth will rip your heart to shreds and make you question, like the main detective in this book, what kind of world we live in. And, let me tell you, the truth isn’t even the part that will make you choke on your own shock-no, what comes after? That’s gut check time.

He dropped to his knees, gasping for breath. Was this shock? Was he going into shock? He couldn’t breathe, and his vision had gone blurry.

This book explored not only a deeper side to Jazz, but also the cold, hard truth of what happens when you are done and your body has finally gone on auto-pilot. Shut down. Went into preservation mode. We watch as Howie and Connie do everything they can, which isn’t much, as Jazz slowly descends into madness and let’s his dark side he’s always fought take over. He becomes detached, cold, driven in his desperation to end his father’s life, because he believes it’s his job-it’s his duty and his duty alone-it’s always been him. Father vs. Son. Mano y Mano. Wit, cunning, and all that crazy Billy has taught Jazz as he grew up. But what happens if he succeeds? If he finally lets all the lessons he learned take over when he’s fought them so desperately his whole life? Will that be it? Will he be fulfilled, at peace, able to move on with his life like a normal human being? Or will he slowly become Billy Dent’s successor, the next notorious serial killer….just like Dear old Dad wanted?

 photo Kitty-Kat-Killer_zpsdils85it.gif

“I think I’ve had enough of your kind of love,” Jazz said, surprising himself that he clenched his jaw tight, tears gathering. “You…you abused me,” he spluttered. “You did horrible things to me. You made me-“

This story explored deep emotional levels I didn’t know it possessed. I had no idea that I would think the last two (MURDEROUS) books would be tame, fluffy, funny, light-hearted compared to this one. But I clearly knew nothing. I will push and push and push people to read this series until I’ve annoyed them beyond comprehension. For that, I’m sorry. But, also, like Jazz, only a little sorry-this series is too good to go unnoticed by so many of my friends-but I’m about to shake everyone up. I will get people to read this. That’s your only warning. Anna, you lovely lovely French vixen-THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS WONDERFULLY HORRIBLE AND ADDICTIVE AND PERILISTIC series. I wear this badge with honor. I will NEVER EVER EVER forget Jazz or this series. Holy book hangover hell, here I come.

BLOG TOUR + REVIEW + GIVEAWAY – Crushed (Redemption #2) by Lauren LayneCrushed (Redemption #2)
by Lauren Layne

Synopsis:

Lauren Layne’s latest novel about the healing power of redemption tells the story of a crush gone wickedly wrong, proving that what you want isn’t always what you need.

Growing up in New York, Michael St. Claire never expected to spend his twenties wearing cowboy boots. But that was before he learned about his real father, a total stranger with a family in Cedar Grove, Texas. Once in the Lone Star State, Michael meets Kristin Bellamy, who is exquisitely refined and everything Michael always thought he wanted in a woman. The only problem is that Kristin is dating Michael’s new half-brother, Devon.

Kristin’s mouthy, curvy sister Chloe has always been in love with Devon Patterson. So when Michael offers to help Chloe break up Devon and Kristin, Chloe agrees to a deal that seems too good to be true. Before long, Chloe finally gets her man, only to make a startling discovery: She no longer wants the guy she had to fight for—she wants the one who stood by her side.

After all he and Chloe have been through, Michael swears he’s damaged goods. Can Chloe convince him that love is worth the risk?

Review:

Crushed warmed me from my head to my toes.  It was hilarious, endearing, and heartbreaking all at the same time.  Just when my eyes dried from laughing, they would be tearing up again for the struggles Michael and Chloe went through.  They both wanted to find what they were desperately searching for, to be loved, yet it was always out of reach time and time again.  But while they are searching, be prepared to have a huge smile on your face.  This unlikely friendship brings out the best and worst in each other, it’s definitely not something you want to miss!

Ignorance truly is bliss.
And when ignorance is over?
All hell breaks loose. – Michael

Michael is struggling with learning the truth.  After suffering rejection from Olivia, whom he had secretly been in love with forever, he overheard that the man who raised him isn’t even his father.  To escape everything and find his real father, he journeys down to Texas.  There he discovers that two sisters are intertwined in his half brother Devon’s life.  While the gorgeous, thin Kristen is dating Devon, he notices that Chloe, the younger curvy, out of shape one, is in love with him too.  Upon noticing that little jewel of information, he agrees to help train Chloe at the gym and eventually help her try and break up Devon and Kristen.  Little does she know the reasoning behind any of it.  But while getting closer to Michael, will she still want Devon or will she fall for Michael instead?

It annoys me that I’m not immune to his calculated man-whore routine.
But what bugs me even more is that he knows. He knows what I’ve never told anyone.
That I don’t feel in control of my own life. – Chloe

Chloe is infectious.  She is quirky, cheerful and insightful while sometimes clueless.  She was easy to relate to and it’s impossible not to laugh at so many of the things she does and says.  The things that come out of her mouth?  Oh my, you are in for a treat.  But my favorite thing about her?  How she could annoy and get under Michael’s skin.  She is definitely talented in that department!  But she is an amazing friend to him.  Even when he doesn’t want one.

I have the strangest feeling that Chloe Bellamy knows that when I say it’s hard, I’m not talking about the squats.
I’m talking about life.
My life. – Michael

Michael is jaded and for good reason.  So lucky us, we get a sexy, bad boy who is in desperate need of being fixed and has a dark sense of humor.  Where do I sign up?  But his facade would splinter from time to time because of Chloe.  No matter how hard he tried too maintain it, her presence and words would allow a smile to escape at times.  That smile would never stay on for long, and it hurt to see how little he valued himself.  How much he hurt.  How he didn’t believe that he didn’t deserve be hurting.

I comply, and then mutter a string of curses because Chloe Bellamy has just reached out in the middle of a busy gym and patted my ass.
“Very nice,” she says, sounding surprised.
“Chloe!”
She shrugs. “You just got so upset when I was ogling that other guy instead of you, so I wanted to make you feel good.

Chloe and Michael together ensured for constant entertainment.  And the icing on the cake is getting to be in both of their heads.  I love being able to understand and get where they are both coming from!  Oh wow, I just wanted to walk into those pages and be Chloe’s friend while also staring dreamily at Michael.  After two books, I think it’s safe to say that I have found an author whose writing I truly love!

Lauren

Lauren Layne is a snarky cynic with a serious weakness for happily ever afters.

Marrying her high school sweetheart was a good start. *cue Disney soundtrack.* But Lauren wanted all romance, all the time.

Now she writes fictional happy endings, and considers her job done well if you swoon while reading her books. Don’t worry. You will.

Once upon a time she lived in a Manhattan high-rise, but now she’s on the laid-back train in the Seattle area. If you ever find yourself in Issaquah, she’ll probably buy you a drink. Maybe.

Game (Jasper Dent #2) by Barry Lyga  – 5 Stars!  What a wonderfully demented series. Not often do I pick up thriller books and find such satisfaction. It isn’t merely the characters, though, that’s about 80% of it, and it isn’t wholly the mysteries. I think my love for this series stems from the humor that seeps off of every page. In the 1st book, I Hunt Killers, Jazz is a likable teenager. A charmer, some might say.  But he’s also the son of the world’s most infamous serial killer, and for Dear Old Dad, “Take Your Son to Work Day” was year-round. Jazz has witnessed crime scenes the way cops wish they could–from the criminals’ point of view.  And now, even though Dad has been in jail for years, bodies are piling up in the sleepy town of Lobo’s Nod. Again.  In an effort to prove murder doesn’t run in the family, Jazz joins the police in the hunt for this new serial killer. But Jazz has a secret–could he be more like his father than anyone knows?  From acclaimed author Barry Lyga comes a riveting thriller about a teenager trying to control his own destiny in the face of overwhelming odds.  Chelsea’s Review
