Synopsis:

Sexy, tatted up, underwear model Marcus Grayson is every girl’s dream—or more likely worst nightmare. He’s a player, a self-proclaimed bachelor for life, and he’s got no problem living up to his man-whore status. But when his older sister’s friend comes back from the past, he may just have the chance to turn some of his adolescent fantasies into reality.

Tessa Bradley is a self-sufficient, take-no-bull, single mother—well, now she is. Finally rid of her abusive, alcoholic ex, she’s making a new life for herself and catching up with old friends; the ones she was forced to break ties with because of her controlling husband. When she runs into Marcus, her friend Riley’s once-adorable turned smoking-hot little brother, she has no idea how he’s about to rock her world.

Review:

Keep Me was a sweet, feel-good read that kept a smile on my face and made my heart race. Although it did delve into issues that were deeper than I had expected, those scenes added an extra layer of depth and intensity. At the end of the book, I closed my kindle feeling happy that I got to stumble into Marcus and Tessa’s world.

I tangled my hands in her now-messy hair, and whispered in her ear, “You. Are. Addicting.” – Marcus

Marcus Grayson is a man-whore. He knows it and revels in the fact that he can have anyone he wants. It doesn’t help that he is a tatted underwear model and constantly has women throwing themselves at him. His path is about to cross with Tessa Bradley, a blast from the past. Tessa was his older sister’s best friend. He thought she was gorgeous and did everything in his power to obtain her attention, even if only momentarily. But that was years ago, and Tessa’s world has just crumbled to the ground. Her husband isn’t around anymore and she is being forced to get a job and leave her sweet baby boy, Luca, in daycare. When Tessa and Marcus run into each other, the sparks fly. From here it takes a sexy turn, but how can Tessa deal with any type of interaction with Marcus when she’s still struggling from her past? And better yet, can a play-boy actually change his ways?

Holding my son close to my chest I silently sobbed, wishing my life could have been different – good, like right now. Instead, I was all screwed up, jaded and broken, with no foreseeable way to fix it. – Tessa

Our journey begins with alternating chapters between Marcus and Tessa’s voice. I preferred Tessa to Marcus in the beginning, because I wanted to understand her plight and her struggles. But as the story progressed, Marcus started to get under my skin. I didn’t want to fall for a player, but his kindness and gentle heart kept sneaking out. He won me over with how he interacted with his sister, the sweet act he does in memory of his mom, and how he treats Tessa and Luca. He’s a good guy underneath that tattooed, cocky exterior and I ended up loving to hear his side of the story too.

Everything I’d worked for in the last six months was slowly vanishing. My dignity, my independence, my morals. And the worst part was…it felt good. – Tessa

Tessa is devastated with how parts of her life have progressed. She is shattered, she is damaged and she has walls built up. While letting in an old friend, Marcus’ sister, is one thing, allowing a man to enter her heart is another. I had a lot of fun watching Marcus try and wiggle his way into her bed and heart. They have this physical connection that is steamy and off the charts hot. I had to fan my face quite a few times because sometimes the verbiage went outside my comfort zone. And that is because Marcus brings out her dirty, wild side. Who knew she could be like that? Wow. But Tessa better watch out because not only is Marcus sexy and fun, but he could be a danger to her walls.

He stared down at me, his hand caressing my cheek. How he could be so tender while being so…hot, I didn’t understand. “I can give you what you need. And you…you’re everything I never knew I wanted.” – Tessa

Keep Me is a quick, easy read that you’ll want to grab when you need to find hope, happiness and a heart-warming story. I can’t wait to continue the series to see what happens to Riley, Marcus’ sister.

PS I LOVE that at the end of the book, Faith Andrews has a playlist which includes the song Laid by James. Some of the lyrics are perfect and I’ve always loved that song!

Sophie couldn’t have been more wrong about Brynn not making mistakes.
Because not so long ago, she’d made the most elementary of all mistakes.
And he was staring right at her.

Eeeeeeeep!!! Did I mention….that I love Lauren Layne?? I have? Fifty times, you say? Yeah, well. I. Don’t. Care. Never has an author been able to make me smile more, laugh more, swoon more (that’s up for debate, but I’m talking big picture here, people), and tear up all in one book. It’s just not possible! But, this woman. She has that special touch. Hmmm…what’s it called? Oh, yes, that’s right-WRITING A CONTEMPORARY THAT ISN’T TRASHY. Literally. All her books have sex in them (Thank God) but not one of her ‘just a fling’ stories has an ounce of depravity in them. I don’t know how she does it, but one thing is for sure: Like Brynn Dalton, Lauren Layne is sophisticated and shows class, and I admire the hell out of that.

***I want to note that I had an abundance of quotes (MY FAVORITE PART OF MY REVIEWING) and my app malfunctioned and deleted them ALL. So…..now I feel a little sad because they were great. See, I hate monotony in my reviews-I like breaking up each paragraph with a quote…I’ll try to find some, but for now, here it is as is***

When this book was released last week, I almost cried. I’ve been waiting sooo long. Sophie and Gray are up there with my favorite of favorite LL couples (Hmmm, or maybe Gray is just one of my top guys she’s written that I drool over….) and Will was one of my favorite characters in the first book. So, naturally, when a book featuring all my favorite people was released, there was reason to celebrate (Or cry out of sheer excitement). LL is on my auto-buy list no matter the content she chooses to conquer. Her latest conquest? The quintessential Brynn Dalton-the face of rules and everything neat and organized. She literally has a list of rules for everything so she can lead an exemplary life. It was actually so so fun to be in an uptight, in a loving way, woman’s head as opposed to the loosey-goosey type. I find it so funny, and ironic, that Brynn is the female version of Gray and they both ended up with crazy, zaney opposites. Also, that’s hardly a spoiler seeing as Lauren Layne is the queen of HEAs…..Did I mention I love Lauren Layne?

Insert fun quote here…

Will. William. William Thatcher. Sophie Dalton’s best friend, ladies’ man extraordinaire…and Brynn Dalton’s worst enemy. But what if he doesn’t want to be? Ever since they met in high school, Brynn put off an heir of confidence and, well, snootiness, so as to push Will away-Why would the most popular boy in their school be interested in Dumpy Dalton? There’s no way he could have feelings for her, so why would he hang around? But he has other ideas. You can tell in book one that through all the bullshit, Will was (and is) in love with Brynn. He’s funny, charismatic, intelligent, spontaneous….he’s the polar opposite of her. But she’s always been the one for him, and he is dead set on proving her wrong-that they were made for each other. The lengths he went to in this story made my heart break and swell all at the same time. The efforts he put in had my heart stuttering and fluttering and contracting. He was is well and truly in love with her and more than once I lost my breath when she would reject him, in one way or another. Oh, and did I mention I love Lauren Layne?

Woulda inserted sweet or swoony quote here…

These books are funny, light as air, angsty….and they almost always channel something inside of me I wouldn’t admit to the outside world. Like, I don’t know, the jealous me, the out-of-control me, the flustered me, the wounded me. It’s like, no matter how different I am from these fictional women, I always can relate in some way. These girls’ feelings? They feel
real.
They don’t seem fabricated or forced or unlike people I know-These women are, for lack of a better word, relatable. I noticed several times that Brynn would put up a wall, but then when even a sign of another woman appeared on Will’s doorstep (Guess where he lives? Muahahaha), Brynn would lose her shit, that calm, cool, collected veneer she puts up, and drop everything to show her face next door. This flustered, not put-together Brynn? Yeah, I can totally get behind that. Hell, I even support it! You get your psycho on, Brynny! Did I mention…Nah, I think you get it.

One thing: that tattoo View Spoiler »

And another here….

So, you know, here I am pushing another LL in all your faces, but I just don’t care. This has so many things that I love in a book: the haughty attitude vs the ‘I’m guna win you over’ attitude. The love-hate relationship, even if he really is just in love with her. The flashbacks showing just how much he has always cared. Her little rules at the beginning of each chapter (I loved seeing her quirkiness). I rooted for these two-hard. I loved their characterizations and the fact that this story felt so different from all her others. I loved how different Brynn was compared to the other girls in all her other books and/or series. No matter how many LL books I have read (Cough, all of them, cough) or she has written, I’ve never felt like I was reading a repeat or something she didn’t think of herself. They all have a chick-flick kind of feel, and she makes it clear that’s what she’s trying to do. She wants you to sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. And that is totally what I did. And did I mention-I adore Lauren Layne?

Synopsis:

Do Teresa and Jase have a real shot at getting together or will life get in the way?

Teresa Hamilton is having a rough year—she's in love with her big brother's best friend, but he hasn't spoken to her since they shared a truly amazing, mind-blowing, life-changing kiss. Then she got out of a terrible relationship. Now an injury is threatening to end her dance career for good. It's time for plan B: college. And maybe she'll have a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real.

Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he's not telling anyone—especially not his best friend's incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn't have time for a relationship. But it doesn't help that all he can think about is kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him.

As they're thrown together more and more, Jase and Teresa can't keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they're willing to risk to be together and what they're willing to lose if they're not. . . .

Review:

I love the way J. Lynn books make me feel! They are sweet, sensual and have just enough angst to drive me the right kind of crazy. The second installment had me nervous, because how in the world can anyone live up to Cam and his cookies and eggs?! But you know what? Jase did an exceptional job. He brought cupcakes to Tess, yes cupcakes. I’m a sucker for cupcakes, and each time that happened I kept falling for him more and more. Well, when he wasn’t being his grumpy shut-down self, but more on that later! Be With Me was another exceptional book in the Wait For You series, and I loved each and every moment of Jase and Tess’ story.

“I mean, do you believe that some things are just meant to happen?” He murmured as he dropped his head and his lips brushed my neck. Another strangled gasp parted my lips. “Like no matter what you do, what you tell yourself, things are just going to happen? Some things I don’t think you can stop.”

Being Tess, well, it’s kind of complicated right now. After injuring her knee, she is stuck going to college where her brother Cam goes. It’s only temporary, and while it’s frustrating as hell, there is one benefit of having her dreams momentarily de-railed. Jase Winstead. Her brother’s best friend. They kissed when she was 16 years old and heaven help her, but she hasn’t ever been able to get him out of her head. She compares all other kisses to him, and sadly none have ever live up to that one blissful moment. Since then, Jase has been avoiding her. But with them going to the same school, there’s no way he can keep running away. And she’s right, because even during her first tour of the new town, she gets to drop by with her brother to see Jase. But she’s about to learn that Jase can flip from hot to cold in the blink of an eye, and being around him will be one confusing ride.

He looked away, shaking his head. “You don’t get it, Tess. I can’t have you.”
“But you do have me,” I whispered, and then clamped my mouth shut. Did I just say that? Horrified, I could only stare as his eyes widened.
Oh my God, I did just say that out loud.

I loved Tess. Her inner thoughts were absolutely hilarious. She constantly had me cracking up and I loved the way she saw the world. She had a smart mouth, a huge heart and she knew what she wanted and wasn’t going to compromise for anything less. Probably my favorite thing about her was her reactions to Jase’s sexiness. His comments and actions had me grinning like a loon and her reactions were exactly how I would react, I loved it!

Jase – “Keep saying my name.” His fingers bit into my skin, eliciting a hiss of pleasure from me. “And I’ll never stop. I swear to you.”

Jase was toe curling and smile inducing. Even when he was being the biggest jerk on the planet, I still couldn’t get enough of him. Although his douche-bag jerkiness isn’t excusable, that boy has a whole jeep load of baggage. It continually haunted him and while he was fighting his inner demons, he became the King of hot and cold to Tess! His sexy self would be intoxicating one instant and in the next he would be utterly intolerable. His whiplash feelings towards Tess drove me crazy. I just wanted to shake him and fix him. But when Jase was being good, oh wow, he was amazing. He was mind-blowing sweet and thoughtful. The cupcakes and all of the little things he did for her View Spoiler » made my heart completely melt and fall for Jase hard.

Jase – “You know, I’ve tried staying away from you. I’ve tried ignoring how I feel about you, which isn’t how I should feel. But it’s like fighting a losing battle. And I don’t want to fight it anymore. I don’t want to ignore this.”

I had so much fun watching Jase and Tess’ story unfold. Having a smile on my face while I’m laughing, being giddy and nervous always means that I have fallen for a book. And I adored this book through and through.

Synopsis:

At 21, Calla hasn't done a lot of things. She’s never been kissed, never seen the ocean, never gone to an amusement park. But growing up, she witnessed some things no child ever should. She still carries the physical and emotional scars of living with a strung-out mother, Mona—secrets she keeps from everyone, including her close circle of college friends.

But the safe cocoon Calla has carefully built is shattered when she discovers her mom has stolen her college money and run up a huge credit card debt in her name. Now, Calla has to go back to the small town she thought shed left behind and clean up her mom’s mess again. Of course, when she arrives at her mother’s bar, Mona is nowhere to be found. Instead, six feet of hotness named Jackson James is pouring drinks and keeping the place humming.

Sexy and intense, Jax is in Calla’s business from they moment they meet, giving her a job and helping her search for Mona. And the way he looks at her makes it clear he wants to get horizontal . . . and maybe something more. Before Calla can let him get close, though, she’s got to deal with the pain of the past—and some very bad guys out to mess her up if she doesn't give them her mom.

Review:

I always know that whatever book I pick up from J. Lynn, I am going to have a fun time devouring every page. I can always count on the males being drool-worthy sexy, heroines that I like, dialogue that makes me smile and scenes that will make my heart skip a beat in happiness and in shock. Stay With Me hit all of these marks. It was such an enjoyable, easy read.

But standing where I was now, I didn’t feel so lucky. Actually, I was pretty sure Lady Luck was a coldhearted bitch who needed to die.

This time around we get to be in Calla’s head, and in the very first chapter we get to see the mess that has become this girl’s life. Calla just met the girlfriend of the guy she was secretly crushing on, and that’s just the sprinkles on her my life is going downhill sundae. She doesn’t know if she will be able to continue her education because her mom has cleaned her out. Her mom has taken all of her money and run up an obscene amount of debt in her name. In the slim hope of being able to get her life back on track, Calla makes the difficult decision to travel back to where she was raised. It never felt like home and she swore to herself that she would never return, but she is left with no choice. Upon her arrival, she meets Jackson James who is working at the bar she spent the majority of her childhood at. From here, the story becomes a twisted path of dangerous lies and truths and Calla finds herself stuck right in the middle of it all.

Oh my golly gee, I hoped his shirt just ripped up the sides and fell right off.

Jax was by far one of my favorite things about this story. He was dangerously sexy. He was bold, demanding, blunt and then sensitive in a blink of an eye. He was an alpha male that Calla desperately needed. And I was hoping that underneath it all, he had a heart of gold. I loved Jax. He physically made the air rush out of me and he made it impossible not to smile when he was being his overpowering self. I couldn’t not love that protective, overbearing side of him.

Jack – “I like you, Calla. Yeah, I’ve only known you a couple of days. But you’ve made me laugh,” he said, his gaze never leaving mine. “I can also tell you’re nice and sweet when you wanna be. I think you’re cute as hell and you make me hard.”
Whoa. Did he seriously just say that?

Calla was so different than how I perceived her in the previous book. She was so broken inside. And she was so broken on the outside too. My heart hurt for her and I kept hoping that she would eventually find the correct path to getting her life back on track. But the obstacles that kept appearing in front of her seemed insurmountable. But though it all, thank goodness she had logic on her side (well, for the most part!), a sweet disposition and inner thoughts that kept cracking me up.

Jack – “When I want something, I go for it. Life is way too damn short to live any other way. And I want to get to know you better.” Those lashes lowered one time, his gaze tracking to my lips like they were some kind of mecca. “Yeah, I definitely want to get to know you better.”
Holy cowbells.

The first line of this book had me, hook, line and sinker.  It made me squeal with delight and I just knew it was going to be a fun book to read.  I loved Jax.  Jax was utterly irresistible and paring him up with a sweetheart like Calla meant that we were in for a delightful read, and that it was!  And I’m so glad we got to catch up and see what Cam, Avery, Jase and Teresa were up to.  They made a few appearances in Stay With Me, and each time was enjoyable and fulfilling.  The reasons I didn’t fully love this book are twofold.  One is that the story seemed to go on a little longer than I liked and the other is that I was bothered by how something was resolved.  But despite those two issues, I still found myself enjoying another book from the With You saga.  I can’t wait to read Roxy’s story in the next installment!

Lifting my gaze, I met his. “I don’t want to think.”
Jax didn’t question or comment on this. There was a flare of something hot and heady in his eyes, and then he dipped his mouth to mine, and he kissed me sweetly-the kind of kiss that went beyond the heavy and sensual ones. It meant something, and I seemed to open up to it, really feeling it, believing in it.
And that was pretty damn spectacular.

Okay, so, I’ve gotten super picky lately…I mean super picky. A year ago, this would have been hands down 5 stars and no other book could touch it. But I have kind of fallen out of J. Armentrout’s spell, and that makes me sad…but it also helps to not be in a haze and to be able to see what works for me with my formerly favorite author and what doesn’t. A lot of people will disagree with me, but, and this is a large but…I think Armentrout shines in the paranormal romance genre. I think she produces her best work there. And that’s not to say that her NA books aren’t good, they are. But, when reading her NA vs. her Paranormal YA, I just connect way more and feel more passion from her Lux and Dark Elements and Covenants series. The things that bother me with her writing tend to prickle me less when it’s in a paranormal setting as opposed to her NA worlds.

“What does it taste like?” I resisted.
“Grits.”
I lowered my fork, looking at him blandly. “Details.”
He laughed as he cut through what looked like ten pancakes stacked. “One cannot simply describe grits. One must simply enjoy them.”
My eyes rolled, but I scooped up a small taste, made sure I had cheese in it, and gingerly tasted them. The whole time Jax watched and waited. I swallowed, unsure of what to think. I tried a little more.
“So?” he asked.
“I don’t know.” I shoved a mouthful in. “I haven’t decided yet. I think they taste good, but they’re called grits; therefore I’m not sure I can freely admit to liking something called grits. I have to really think about this.”
Jax laughed. “Cute.”

I think it has to do with the subject matter. Her Wait for You books tend to lean on the heavier side with humor laced throughout, but I think the inner dialogue doesn’t quite…go, whereas for her paranormal books they aren’t normally quite so gravid. So when she wants to throw in a funny saying during an epic battle, you aren’t quite so focused on it-you’re waiting for the next blow as opposed to the next emotional twist or turn. Those happen too, in her para, but not near as heavily as these NAs.

“You’re not going to be a message. You aren’t going to be shit to any of them. You feel me? No one is touching you,” he said, and he said it right in front of Nick. He touched me right in front of Nick, touched my scar. “We’re going to take care of this and none of this shit is going to rub off on you. Okay?”

That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy this book, because I did. No, it wasn’t my favorite work of hers, but it still had an amazing male lead and a fun cast surrounding her. Can we just take a minute to acknowledge that J. Armentrout creates literally the best male leads?? If there is one thing I can always count on, it’s her ability to create guys that make my knees weak. I do have to admit he was my favorite part of this whole story. Jax was sexy, protective, swoony, sweet, determined, and passionate about his goals. <<< Hey, I think we forget about those goal oriented fellas these days….it’s still an admirable trait!!! I loved how he respected her and protected her even when she was trying to be stubborn and refused his help. I’m in love with guys that are overly protective without being annoying, so of course he was a total win for me.

I sucked in a sharp breath that hurt. He’d done this before, too, and it created the same maelstrom of emotion in me, but he did more this time. His lips followed that scar all the way down my cheek, right to the corner of my left lip, and then he kissed me. It was soft and sweet and it lingered. My hands went to his chest and I leaned into him.
When he lifted his mouth from mine and pressed his forehead against mine, tears had built in the back of my throat. “I don’t care about it, Calla. I don’t even think about it,” he said. “I don’t even see it.”

Ack, okay, my biggest complaint-I don’t like when authors build up to something epic….and then it just…isn’t. Like, why build it up at all??? Maybe I am a tad masochistic and do tend to like the dramatic, crazy endings of dystopian or sci-fi or paranormal better, but they are fifty times more satisfying than a boring and almost unrealistic talk-it-out ending…okay….hmmm….Maybe I’m getting my reality mixed up lol. I think I’ve been spending too much time in my fantasy world, but, eh, I still would like something crazy to happen at the end if it’s built up that way.

Jax’s chuckle brushed the back of my neck as he pulled me back tighter against him so that there was no space between us at all. “You still with me?”
“I’m still with you.”

So, that’s my spiel. I liked it, didn’t love. There was a certain point where I fell in love with it, but five minutes later I was lukewarm again. I was very up and down with my likes and loves for this’n. I feel so very fickle, but all in all I think that rating above accurately portrays my feelings throughout the entirety of the novel. A strong male lead and a fun atmosphere (the other favorite part of the story for me I didn’t mention), this story had a lot going for it. For those of you who are familiar with J. Armentrout and adore her writing, you’ll fall for this one as well. As for me, I do wish she could change up her sayings a bit….but, overall a really fun story that most will enjoy.
