Just Finished and Loved:

fire-in-you-jennifer-l-armentrout Fire in You (Wait for You, #6) by J. Lynn (Jennifer L. Armentrout)Jen’s Review

5 Stars! Fire In You was the perfect conclusion to the Wait For You Series!

Jillian Lima’s whole world was destroyed in a span of a few hours. The same night her childhood love, Brock ‘the Beast’ Mitchell, broke her heart, her life was irrevocably altered by the hand of a stranger with a gun. It takes six years to slowly glue together the shattered pieces of her life, but Jillian is finally ready to stop existing in a past full of pain and regret. She takes a job at her father’s martial arts Academy and she’s going out on her first date since a failed relationship that was more yuck than yum. Jillian is determined to start living.
She just never expected Brock to be a part of her life again. But he’s firmly back in her life before she knows it, and not only is he older, he’s impossibly more handsome, more teasing and more everything. And when he sees Jillian, he’s no longer capable of thinking of her as the little girl who was his shadow growing up or the daughter of the man who gave him a second chance at life. He sees the woman who’d always been there for him, the one person who believed in him no matter what.
Brock knows she’s the one he should’ve made his, and what begins as a tentative friendship quickly turns to red-hot chemistry that sparks a flame that burns brighter than lust. Falling for Brock again risks more than her heart, because when the past sorrow-filled and guilt-ridden past resurfaces, and a web of lies threatens to rip them apart, the fallout could lay waste to everything they’ve fought to build together, and destroy the dreams of those they care most about.

heartless marissa meyer Heartless by Marissa Meyer
Long before she was the terror of Wonderland, she was just a girl who wanted to fall in love. Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland, and a favorite of the unmarried King of Hearts, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, all she wants is to open a shop with her best friend. But according to her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for the young woman who could be the next queen.
Then Cath meets Jest, the handsome and mysterious court joker. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the king and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into an intense, secret courtship. Cath is determined to define her own destiny and fall in love on her terms. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.
In her first stand-alone teen novel, the New York Times-bestselling author dazzles us with a prequel to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

stay-with-me-mila-gray Stay With Me (Come Back to Me #2) by Mila Gray
Didi Monroe has waited her whole life for happily ever after. So when charming Zac Ridgemont sweeps her off her feet, Didi believes she might finally have met the one.
Until she begins an internship at a military hospital in California. There she meets wounded marine Noel Walker. Frustrated on the outside and broken on the inside, Walker’s an irritating patient who refuses any care, keeping his distance from everything and everyone—including Didi.
Walker is strictly out of bounds. Didi knows this, respects this, but the more she tries to help Walker the closer the two grow. Soon neither one can ignore the sparks flying between them as their attraction simmers into dangerous territory.
But Walker doesn’t believe in love or happily ever after—not after what he’s seen. Not after what he’s been through. He doesn’t want to hurt Didi, but he doesn’t want to push her away either. She makes him feel peaceful. Hopeful, even.
Then tragedy hits, shattering both their worlds, and Didi realizes that love isn’t as simple as happily ever after. Love isn’t easy. It’s difficult. Messy. Complicated.
Now all Didi has to do is decide if it’s worth fighting for.

FRIDAY STARS – Your Weekly Must Knows 11/11/16

Friday Stars.13
Life:

I’ve started accompanying my Grandma to her crafting groups, even though I am horrific at anything crafty.  Have you ever seen those Pinterest Fail pages?  Yup.  That’s me.  Well, except if it involves food, go figure.  So yesterday my Grandma and I made these decoration thingies, with her crafting group, for their Veteran’s Party today.  My Grandma easily completed 4 tissue-paper-and-glue-on-paper-hearts-things.  I barely finished my 2nd one.  And I won’t be shocked at all if they throw away the two I completed.  But it was still a nice time, until I got home.  Then I started noticing that I somehow got glue all over myself.  First my arms.  Then I noticed my clothes.  Then I found it in my hair.  I have no clue how I accomplished that.  So after today, I’m super nervous since I’ll be attending her knitting/crocheting group tomorrow.  I can’t knit.  Or crochet.  I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that I somehow don’t stab myself!  The things we do so we can be with the ones we love, sigh. ♥  But here’s hoping you have way better crafting skills than I do!

In case you aren’t familiar with our Friday Star Posts, we like to take a look at what’s happened around here in the last week, what’s coming up that we are excited about and anything else that we may have to share!

Just Finished and Loved:

full-tilt-emma-scottFull Tilt (Full Tilt #1) by Emma Scott Jen’s Review

5 Stars! Full Tilt was an emotional powerhouse that kept me on a wonderfully vicious cycle. I found myself smiling, then laughing, then swooning and then crying. And I would repeat that time and again. I completely loved this book….

“I would love you forever, if I only had the chance…”
Kacey Dawson has always lived life on the edge–impulsively, sometimes recklessly. And now, as lead guitarist for a hot up-and-coming band, she is poised at the brink of fame and fortune. But she is torn between wanting to be a serious musician, and the demons that lure her down the glittering, but alcohol-soaked path of rock stardom. A wrecked concert in Las Vegas threatens to ruin her career entirely. She wakes up with the hangover from hell and no memory of the night before, or how she ended up on her limo driver’s couch…
Jonah Fletcher is running out of time. He knows his situation is hopeless, and he’s vowed to make the most of the handful of months he has left to him. His plans include seeing the opening of his glass installation at a prestigious art gallery…they do not include falling in love with a wild, tempestuous rock musician who wound up passed out on his couch.
Jonah sees that Kacey is on a path to self-destruction. He lets her crash with him for a few days to dry out and get her head on straight. But neither of them expected the deep connection they felt, or how that connection could grow so fast from friendship into something more. Something deep and pure and life-changing…something as fragile as glass, that they both know will shatter in the end no matter how hard they try to hold on to it.
Full Tilt is a story about what it means to love with your whole heart, to sacrifice, to experience terrible grief and soaring joy. To live life with all its beauty, and all its pain, and in the end to be able to smile through tears and know you wouldn’t have changed a thing.

FRIDAY STARS – Your Weekly Must Knows 11/04/16

Friday Stars.13
Life:

This last Monday was one of my favorite holidays, Halloween!  Ever since I was 5 years old, I have always ended up being a cat every other year or so.  I don’t know why, especially since I’m a dog person.  But this year my youngest son wanted to be a blue kitty and I was so excited that I would get to dress up with him.  If I could find a blue kitty costume.  I scoured the internet and finally found a blue kitty costume!  I loved that we matched, it was so cute!  And if you follow me on Twitter you probably saw my ridiculous attempt at taking a selfie (Why are they so hard to take?!  Maybe I’m doing it wrong?!).  Anywho, my oldest kiddo was a fireman for the 2nd year in a row.  His life goal is that he wants to be a part-time firefighter and a part-time race car driver when he wants to grow up.  It’s one of the many things he talks about all the time.  And I do mean all the time! 😉  We had a great time meeting all of our new neighbors and then we ended the night devouring way too much sugar!  So here’s hoping that you had a fabulous Halloween and scored lots of candy, if you celebrated it too!

In case you aren’t familiar with our Friday Star Posts, we like to take a look at what’s happened around here in the last week, what’s coming up that we are excited about and anything else that we may have to share!

♥ Enjoy!

Just Finished and Loved:

saint-death-coverSaint Death by Marcus SedgwickAnna’s Review

5 Stars! This is a really well-written and well-researched novel that draws you in and never lets you go. Please read it.

Anapra is one of the poorest neighbourhoods in the Mexican city of Juarez – twenty metres outside town lies a fence, and beyond it, America – the dangerous goal of many a migrant. Faustino is one such trying to escape from the gang he’s been working for. He’s dipped into a pile of dollars he was supposed to be hiding and now he’s on the run. He and his friend, Arturo, have only 36 hours to replace the missing money, or they’re as good as dead.
Watching over them is Saint Death. Saint Death (or Santissima Muerte) – she of pure bone and charcoal-black eye, she of absolute loyalty and neutral morality, holy patron to rich and poor, to prostitute and narco-lord, criminal and police-chief. A folk saint, a rebel angel, a sinister guardian.

carve-the-mark-veronica-rothThe Scorpion Rules (Prisoners of Peace #1) by Erin BowChelsea’s Review

5 Stars! All I can do is go with my heart and my gut, and they both say this is a winner.  I have found three favorite books this year, all by amazing authors almost everyone loves…and this book tops them all.

On a planet where violence and vengeance rule, in a galaxy where some are favored by fate, everyone develops a currentgift, a unique power meant to shape the future. While most benefit from their currentgifts, Akos and Cyra do not—their gifts make them vulnerable to others’ control. Can they reclaim their gifts, their fates, and their lives, and reset the balance of power in this world?
Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power—something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.
Akos is from the peace-loving nation of Thuvhe, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Though protected by his unusual currentgift, once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive—no matter what the cost. When Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. They must decide to help each other to survive—or to destroy one another.

FRIDAY STARS – Your Weekly Must Knows 10/28/16

FRIDAY STARS – Your Weekly Must Knows 10/28/16

Life:

I am happy to say that we are officially done with soccer for the season!  This last weekend was the final tournament which was Halloween themed.  It was hilarious watching them play in their costumes.  My son’s team dressed up as the ghosts in Pac-Man and the coaches wore huge Pac-Man colored cardboard costumes.  Not only did they win first place for best team costume but they also won first place in the tournament, woot!  It started at 9am, didn’t finish till after 3pm and they played 7 games.  I thought that was a little crazy for 5-6 year olds but I’m sports clueless (unless it has to do with snowboarding, surfing or wakeboarding) so I guess that’s the norm?  I’m so excited that we have free Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons woohoo!  Well, that is until the next sport starts…… ♥

In case you aren’t familiar with our Friday Star Posts, we like to take a look at what’s happened around here in the last week, what’s coming up that we are excited about and anything else that we may have to share!

♥ Enjoy!

Just Finished and Loved:

still-life-with-tornado-a-s-kingStill Life with Tornado by A.S King Anna’s Review

4.5 Stars! I would say that I was pleasantly surprised, except it would be a lie : A.S. King is so constantly good at dealing with somewhat common issues. Her stories are just my kind of weird and manage to hit me all the same. Of course I recommend.

Sixteen-year-old Sarah can’t draw. This is a problem, because as long as she can remember, she has “done the art.” She thinks she’s having an existential crisis. And she might be right; she does keep running into past and future versions of herself as she wanders the urban ruins of Philadelphia. Or maybe she’s finally waking up to the tornado that is her family, the tornado that six years ago sent her once-beloved older brother flying across the country for a reason she can’t quite recall. After decades of staying together “for the kids” and building a family on a foundation of lies and domestic violence, Sarah’s parents have reached the end. Now Sarah must come to grips with years spent sleepwalking in the ruins of their toxic marriage. As Sarah herself often observes, nothing about her pain is remotely original—and yet it still hurts.

the-scorpion-rules-coverThe Scorpion Rules (Prisoners of Peace #1) by Erin BowAnna’s Review

4.5 Stars! This book was crazy and NASTY (There’s TORTURE) and also super weird BUT I loved every second of it.

Greta is a Duchess and a Crown Princess. She is also a Child of Peace, a hostage held by the de facto ruler of the world, the great Artificial Intelligence, Talis. This is how the game is played: if you want to rule, you must give one of your children as a hostage. Start a war and your hostage dies.
The system has worked for centuries. Parents don’t want to see their children murdered.
Greta will be free if she can make it to her eighteenth birthday. Until then she is prepared to die with dignity, if necessary. But everything changes when Elian arrives at the Precepture. He’s a hostage from a new American alliance, and he defies the machines that control every part of their lives—and is severely punished for it. His rebellion opens Greta’s eyes to the brutality of the rules they live under, and to the subtle resistance of her companions. And Greta discovers her own quiet power.
Then Elian’s country declares war on Greta’s and invades the prefecture, taking the hostages hostage. Now the great Talis is furious, and coming himself to deliver punishment. Which surely means that Greta and Elian will be killed…unless Greta can think of a way to break all the rules.

carve-the-mark-veronica-roth Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth

Upcoming Releases:

the-diabolic-s-j-kincaid The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid (Releases 11/01)
Nemesis is a Diabolic, a humanoid teenager created to protect a galactic senator’s daughter, Sidonia. The two have grown up side by side, but are in no way sisters. Nemesis is expected to give her life for Sidonia, and she would do so gladly. She would also take as many lives as necessary to keep Sidonia safe.
When the power-mad Emperor learns Sidonia’s father is participating in a rebellion, he summons Sidonia to the Galactic court. She is to serve as a hostage. Now, there is only one way for Nemesis to protect Sidonia. She must become her. Nemesis travels to the court disguised as Sidonia—a killing machine masquerading in a world of corrupt politicians and two-faced senators’ children. It’s a nest of vipers with threats on every side, but Nemesis must keep her true abilities a secret or risk everything.
As the Empire begins to fracture and rebellion looms closer, Nemesis learns there is something more to her than just deadly force. She finds a humanity truer than what she encounters from most humans. Amidst all the danger, action, and intrigue, her humanity just might be the thing that saves her life—and the empire.
