Just Finished and Loved:

into the still blue veronica rossiInto the Still Blue (Under the Never Sky #3) by Veronica Rossi Jen’s Review

5 Stars! Into the Still Blue was an action packed, stunning conclusion!  This series has easily become one of my favorite dystopian series ever, and I can’t recommend it highly enough!

The final book! In the first book, Under the Never Sky, Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland—known as The Death Shop—are slim. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He’s wild—a savage—and her only hope of staying alive. A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile—everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria’s help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption. In alternating chapters told in Aria’s and Perry’s voices, Under the Never Sky subtly and powerfully captures the evolving relationship between these characters and sweeps readers away to a harsh but often beautiful world. Continuing with Through the Ever Night and concluding with Into the Still Blue, the Under the Never Sky trilogy has already been embraced by readers in twenty-six countries and been optioned for film by Warner Bros.

Will Kostakis, award-winning author of The First Third, perfectly depicts the pain and pleasure of this teenage world, piecing together three points of view with intricate splendour.

to-love-and-to-cherish-lauren-layneTo Love and to Cherish (The Wedding Belles #3) by Lauren Layne
Sex and the City meets The Wedding Planner in The Wedding Belles, a contemporary and witty romance series about three high-powered New York City women who can plan any wedding—but their own.
Alexis Morgan has spent the past eight years devoted to turning her tiny start-up into Manhattan’s premiere wedding planning company, The Wedding Belles. Now that her business is thriving, it’s time to turn towards her much neglected personal life, and Alexis approaches her relationships like she does everything else: with a plan. Not a part of that plan is Logan Harris, the silent partner in the Belles, and the one person who’s been there for her since the very beginning. But Alexis needs someone fun, and Logan’s all business, all the time—except when a late night at the office ends with an unexpected kiss that leaves the usually cool and together Alexis reeling.
Logan has lusted after Alexis since the day he walked into the tiny Harlem apartment that used to double as her office. But the ambitious wedding planner has always been untouchable…until now. Alexis has made it clear that she’s on the dating market—and equally clear that he’s not in the running. But when Alexis finds herself in need of a date for her sister’s last minute wedding in Florida, Logan knows it’s the perfect time to show Alexis that there’s more to him than numbers and spreadsheets—and beneath the pinstripes and glasses lies a hot-blooded heartthrob. As Florida’s sultry days turn into even hotter nights, Logan’s out to convince Alexis that the fling of a lifetime could just maybe turn into forever…

FRIDAY STARS – Your Weekly Must Knows 10/14/16

FRIDAY STARS – Your Weekly Must Knows 10/14/16

Life:

I’ve been sick all week, which usually isn’t too horrible because then I get to stay in bed all day and read.  But this time around I had a 102+ fever for 4 days and it has kicked my butt.  Things are turning around and I’m hoping that by Sunday I can get myself to Trader Joes.  It’s a grocery store chain that I am obsessed with.  And it has over 60 or maybe 70 pumpkin items this time of year.  I have tried all of them.  Yup, I’m one of those people.  The kind that are truly obsessed with every single thing that is pumpkin.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed I can go shopping there this weekend and stock up on everything pumpkin!

In case you aren’t familiar with our Friday Star Posts, we like to take a look at what’s happened around here in the last week, what’s coming up that we are excited about and anything else that we may have to share!

EvernightEvernight (Evernight #1) by Claudia Gray Chelsea’s Review

5 Stars! That moment when you realize you love a TOTALLY cliche book that almost all your friends (And most of the community) hates. I literally am laughing right now because, really, what are the odds that everyone hates a book I love. It’s crazy.

Bianca wants to escape.
She’s been uprooted from her small hometown and enrolled at Evernight Academy, an eerie Gothic boarding school where the students are somehow too perfect: smart, sleek, and almost predatory. Bianca knows she doesn’t fit in.
Then she meets Lucas. He’s not the “Evernight type” either, and he likes it that way. Lucas ignores the rules, stands up to the snobs, and warns Bianca to be careful—even when it comes to caring about him
“I couldn’t stand it if they took it out on you,” he tells Bianca, “and eventually they would.”
But the connection between Bianca and Lucas can’t be denied. Bianca will risk anything to be with Lucas, but dark secrets are fated to tear them apart . . . and to make Bianca question everything she’s ever believed.

gemina amie kaufman jay kristoffGemina (The Illuminae Files #2) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff (Releases 10/18)
The 2nd book!  In the first book, Illuminae, This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do. This afternoon, her planet was invaded.
The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than a speck at the edge of the universe. Now with enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to evacuate with a hostile warship in hot pursuit.
But their problems are just getting started. A plague has broken out and is mutating with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a web of data to find the truth, it’s clear the only person who can help her is the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.
Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, maps, files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

FRIDAY STARS – Your Weekly Must Knows 10/07/16

Friday Stars.13
Life:

This last weekend and every day since then we have been moving.  I absolutely love our new house and I expected unpacking to be boring.  Well it is for the most part, but I keep running across things I never even knew I still had…..like piles of notes that I use to pass back and forth between friends in school…..you guys…..we had a secret code when we talked about our boyfriends or crushes (you take the first letter of the first and last name and make it food involved….like for my name Jen O. – I’d be hmmm Jiggly Oranges).  Oh my gosh.  They are completely ridiculous and every time I find one I laugh so hard that I cry.  I can’t wait to see what else I’ll find!

In case you aren’t familiar with our Friday Star Posts, we like to take a look at what’s happened around here in the last week, what’s coming up that we are excited about and anything else that we may have to share!

Upcoming Releases:

the-midnight-star-marie-luThe Midnight Star (Young Elites #3) by Marie Lu (Releases 10/11)
The final book in this trilogy!  In the first book, The Young Elites, I am tired of being used, hurt, and cast aside.  Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites.
Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all.
Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. This secret sect of Young Elites seeks out others like them before the Inquisition Axis can. But when the Daggers find Adelina, they discover someone with powers like they’ve never seen.
Adelina wants to believe Enzo is on her side, and that Teren is the true enemy. But the lives of these three will collide in unexpected ways, as each fights a very different and personal battle. But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her.
It is my turn to use. My turn to hurt.

Or maybe she’s finally waking up to the tornado that is her family, the tornado that six years ago sent her once-beloved older brother flying across the country for a reason she can’t quite recall. After decades of staying together “for the kids” and building a family on a foundation of lies and domestic violence, Sarah’s parents have reached the end. Now Sarah must come to grips with years spent sleepwalking in the ruins of their toxic marriage. FRIDAY STARS – Your Weekly Must Knows 09/30/16

Friday Stars.13
Life:

Last weekend we got to spend part of a day at Firefest with some friends.  It’s an awesome event put on annually by our local firefighter stations.  They have fire trucks, ladder trucks, helicopters (for when you need transport to a hospital) and more!  All of our boys got to sit in them and learn how they operate, plus they got to put on firefighting equipment and squirt the fire hose at cones with the assistance of a firefighter.  Oh and they got to practice rolling out fire hoses with them too.  My favorite was watching them reenact what they do at a car crash – they had two cars crashed into each other and had to cut the roof off of one car and cut the door out of another car to rescue the people inside.  By the end, when they were putting out a burning car, I was exhausted for them!  It was such a wonderful day and I’m so grateful for all of the talented firefighters that work near us!  The event also reinforced my oldest son’s desire to be a firefighter when he grows up haha!  I hope you all had a lovely weekend too!

In case you aren’t familiar with our Friday Star Posts, we like to take a look at what’s happened around here in the last week, what’s coming up that we are excited about and anything else that we may have to share!

through the ever night veronica rossiThrough the Ever Night (Under the Never Sky, #2) by Veronica Rossi Jen’s Review

5 Stars!  Through The Ever Night captivated my attention and made me an emotional mess.  I was constantly flitting between butterflies, smiles, devastation and heartache.  And by that last page, I realized that this series has easily become one of my favorite dystopian series ever!

The 2nd book in this trilogy! Continuing with Through the Ever Night and concluding with Into the Still Blue, the Under the Never Sky trilogy has already been embraced by readers in twenty-six countries and been optioned for film by Warner Bros.

the killer in me cover The Killer in Me by Margot Harrison

Hasn’t he lived long enough? Why not? I could take him like a thief in the night. This is how the Thief thinks. He serves death, the vacuum, the unknown. He’s always waiting. Always there. Seventeen-year-old Nina Barrows knows all about the Thief. She’s intimately familiar with his hunting methods: how he stalks and kills at random, how he disposes of his victims’ bodies in an abandoned mine in the deepest, most desolate part of a desert. Now, for the first time, Nina has the chance to do something about the serial killer that no one else knows exists. With the help of her former best friend, Warren, she tracks the Thief two thousand miles, to his home turf—the deserts of New Mexico. But the man she meets there seems nothing like the brutal sociopath with whom she’s had a disturbing connection her whole life. To anyone else, Dylan Shadwell is exactly what he appears to be: a young veteran committed to his girlfriend and her young daughter. As Nina spends more time with him, she begins to doubt the truth she once held as certain: Dylan Shadwell is the Thief. She even starts to wonder . . . what if there is no Thief? From debut author Margot Harrison comes a brilliantly twisted psychological thriller that asks which is more terrifying: the possibility that your nightmares are real . . . or the possibility that they begin and end with you?

roar-and-live-veronica-rossibrooke-veronica-rossiRoar and Liv (Under the Never Sky #0.5) & Brooke (Under the Never Sky #2.5) by Veronica Rossi

Before Perry and Aria, there was Roar and Liv.  FYI – Roar is Perry’s best friend and I’m so excited for this book!  And Brooke, well, she is Perry’s ex.  I have a pretty solid hate relationship with her, although I have liked her briefly for a moment or two.  Ironically I’m  excited to see her POV since her book takes place right after #2 ends and #3 begins.

aerie-maria-dahvana-headleyAerie (Magonia #2) by Maria Dahvana Headley (Releases 10/04)
The final book in the dulogy – although there is to be a novella afterwards!  In the first book, Magonia, Aza Ray Boyle is drowning in thin air. Since she was a baby, Aza has suffered from a mysterious lung disease that makes it ever harder for her to breathe, to speak—to live. So when Aza catches a glimpse of a ship in the sky, her family chalks it up to a cruel side effect of her medication. But Aza doesn’t think this is a hallucination. She can hear someone on the ship calling her name.  Only her best friend, Jason, listens. Jason, who’s always been there. Jason, for whom she might have more-than-friendly feelings. But before Aza can consider that thrilling idea, something goes terribly wrong. Aza is lost to our world—and found, by another. Magonia.  Above the clouds, in a land of trading ships, Aza is not the weak and dying thing she was. In Magonia, she can breathe for the first time. Better, she has immense power—but as she navigates her new life, she discovers that war between Magonia and Earth is coming. In Aza’s hands lies fate of the whole of humanity—including the boy who loves her. Where do her loyalties lie?

FRIDAY STARS – Your Weekly Must Knows 09/23/16

Friday Stars.13
Life:

This last week was filled with soccer games, volunteering in my oldest son’s Kindergarten class, my youngest son getting sick and the daily struggle to try and hurry up the processors so we can close on our new house before the end of the month.  The highlight of my last week was definitely volunteering in my oldest son’s classroom.  Kindergarten is such a fun age!  They want to learn, work on projects and are so adorable to be around.  And you know what…….when I started college years ago I honestly thought that I wanted to be a Kindergarten or 1st grade teacher.  It’s what I had dreamed about.  But after taking classes in that field, it just didn’t feel right.   So I dabbled in psychology, which wasn’t a fit either, and ended up landing in Business.  In that first class, I just knew that this was where I was supposed to be.  I was beyond passionate about my classes, and the next few years flew by way too fast.  But a part of me has still thought about teaching, even though I knew that’s not what I wanted to do.  So I’m beyond ecstatic now, because I get to be a part of teaching, but for only a few hours a week.  I’m so thankful for this opportunity, and I’m definitely looking forward to every Wednesday morning for the rest of this school year! ♥

In case you aren’t familiar with our Friday Star Posts, we like to take a look at what’s happened around here in the last week, what’s coming up that we are excited about and anything else that we may have to share!

♥ Enjoy!

Just Finished and Loved:

anna and the french kiss stephanie perkinsAnna and the French Kiss (Anna and the French Kiss #1) by Stephanie PerkinsChelsea’s Review

5 Stars! I loved it. I devoured it. I longed for it when I put it down, and I picked it back up to re-read my favorite parts (turns out? There were a lot of favorite parts) even after I’d finished

Anna can’t wait for her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a good job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. So she’s not too thrilled when her father unexpectedly ships her off to boarding school in Paris – until she meets Etienne St. Clair, the perfect boy. The only problem? He’s taken, and Anna might be, too, if anything comes of her crush back home. Will a year of romantic near-misses end in the French kiss Anna awaits?
