Female_chelsea

Jude from The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air #1) by Holly Black
* Review  * Amazon * Goodreads *

Okay. The biggest cliché BUT COME ON-She. Is. SOOOO badass. She is a human who takes on all the fae, defeating the worst and most cunning of them all, time after time…only to fall for him. Come. ON. I love her and I want to be friends with her (but not really because she’d not only kick my ass but hand me over in a second to get what she needs HA).

“Well, let me remind you that means you have much to lose and I have nothing. You may win in the end, you may enscroll me and hurt me and humiliate me, but I will make sure you lose everything I can take from you on the way down. I promise you this is the least of what I can do.”

Lira from To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo
*Review * Amazon * Goodreads *

Lira is yet another fierce female who, in the end, is just so bad I can barely stand how awesome she is. And the writing in this book-WOW. If I could write, it would be like this woman. And, as it goes, the monster falls for the other monster…even though they are both hunting one another (unbeknownst to either, obviously). Seeing this all play out…it was beautiful and epic and just out of this world amazing. I love this book so hard.

Every action will betray. Every choice will slaughter. Despite what my mother says, I seem to be the exact kind of monster she wanted.

Isobel from An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson
* Review  * Amazon * Goodreads *

And then sweet Isobel. Yet another human fallen prey to the fae….or, rather, the charms of a certain fae. A young artist who gets swept away to the faerie courts and worlds-but don’t be fooled, for Isobel is no fool, and she won’t be swayed just for love-but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t fallen for the charming and tortured Rook.

I’d always scoffed at stories in which maidens pine for their absent suitors, boys they’ve hardly known a week and have no business falling for. Didn’t they realize their lives were worth more than the dubious affection of one silly young man? That there were things to do in a world that didn’t revolve solely around their heartbreak? Then it happens to you, and you understand you aren’t any different from those girls after all.

Zara from Bring Me Their Hearts (Bring Me Their Hearts #1) by Sara Wolf
*Review * Amazon * Goodreads *

Zara was sarcastic, witty, spoke her mind and wasn’t afraid to challenge others.  I loved how sure she was of herself and she was a heroine that I could easily respect.  It was so much fun watching what should have just been a job turn into so much more. The more she learned about the Prince and his secrets, the more she found herself conflicted.  Her freedom came first, but at what cost when the Prince started treating her unlike any one else ever had. And I found myself nervous. She was to turn the man I had fallen for into a monster.  How could I ever forgive her………

I want nothing more than to stay in this moment, my hand in his.  But that’s an impossibility. A weakness. I am a monster, and he’s a human.  I want his heart, and I want his other heart. His affection, his blood. I want it all.
But if I take one, I can’t have the other.

Amelia from The Importance of Being Scandalous (A Tale of Two Sisters #1) by Kimberly Bell
*Review * Amazon * Goodreads *

I loved Amelia.  She was strong willed, fierce and protected those that she loved.  It was a breath of fresh air that she knew what she wanted and had no problems speaking her mind.  I clicked with her instantly. Amelia made me smile, laugh and my heart hurt for her for the situation she was in.  Thankfully she had a lot of light in her life. And while I loved the relationship she had with her sister Julia I found myself even more addicted to the one she had with Nicholas.

Amelia sighed.  Before she closed the cloak, she turned to her sister. “How do I look, honestly?”
“Like a women who is up to absolutely no good.”
Amelia nodded. “Well, then I suppose I’m ready.”

Lauren from Glitter and Sparkle (Glitter and Sparkle #1) by Shari L. Tapscott
* Review  * Amazon * Goodreads *

Right from the start I loved Lauren!  She has the most adorable voice.  She was honest, heartfelt, and I loved her passion for crafting and her blog.  She pulled me right in and she was someone I would love to be best friends with!  This was a book I hope all of my friends will read!  Between the back and forth banter, the scenes that made me laugh and cry and the beautiful characters, it was just all so perfect!  And as if that wasn’t enough, the epilogue was the most amazing thing ever!

He stretches higher, and his shirt shifts a little more. “Like this?”
Bad Lauren.
I rub a spot behind my ear, feeling a little guilty. “Maybe just a little higher…” Oh, I give up. I can look at him, can’t I?
I can detest someone while admiring their hotness?

Celaena Sardothian from Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1) by Sarah J. Maas
 * Amazon * Goodreads *

She’s a badass female assassin–the greatest in all of Erilea.  She’s sassy, loves chocolate and books, and is loyal to a fault. This series would be nothing without her.

Kestrel Trajan from The Winner’s Curse (The Winner’s Trilogy #1) by Marie Rutkoski
* Amazon * Goodreads *

I love Kestrel because of how fiercely loyal and clever she is.  She accepted a duel with a man twice her size so that her slave wouldn’t get whipped and refused to tell Arin the truth about being a spy because she knew he would remove himself from the rebellion to save her. One of my favorite series of all time!

Mare from War Storm (Red Queen #4) by Victoria Aveyard
* Review  * Amazon * Goodreads *

I loved the character Mare Barrow from the moment I met her in Red Queen a few years ago. While I understand not everyone feels the same way, I appreciate the fact that she’s not perfect and makes mistakes, but tries to learn from those mistakes and keeps her end goal in mind. Which is not particularly easy considering everything that happens over the course of the series. But through it all, she remains loyal, fierce, understanding, funny and kind and I like to think she does ultimately get her happy ending.

Lila from A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic #1) by V.E. Schwab
* Amazon * Goodreads *

When I first read this series a year ago, I almost instantly fell in love with it. A few weeks ago, I read it for the second time, and I think I liked it even more. While a lot of that is thanks to the four main characters (Lila, Kell, Alucard and Rhy), Lila certainly is a major factor. She unabashedly herself and doesn’t take no for an answer. She is fiercely loyal to her friends and will do anything to help them, even after everything she did for own self-preservation. Underneath her snark and knives, there is a girl who is capable of great love and kindness.

Isaac from In Harmony by Emma Scott
*Review * Amazon * Goodreads *

Here is a boy who despite all of his troubled upbringing goes out of his way to care for others, from the neighbor boy with a similarly broken home, to his mentor/father figure and the heroine of the story, Willow. Isaac is tough when he needs to be, but he is also incredibly kind and loving.

kindest_chelsea

Aiden from The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata
*Review * Amazon * Goodreads *

Okay, people, OKAY. Thus began my love affair of EVERYTHING MARIANA ZAPATA. Aiden is the silent killer. He’s the heart attack you didn’t see coming. My brain couldn’t compute the feels that erupted from this subtle powerhouse who’s more loyal and amazing than any football player I’ve known (okay, shut up). BUT MY HEART. BRAIN=DEAD. HEART=SHREDS. SOUL=Forever Aiden’s.

“Home is where you are. I would go anywhere for you if you wanted me there.”

Billy from Three Dark Crowns (Three Dark Crowns #1) by Kendare Blake
* Amazon * Goodreads *

Well would you looky here, frans. The kind, adorable, LOYAL Billy-the boy who was to court all the ladies…but falls for the rugged (and amazing-I-am-obsessed-with-her) Arsinoe. I can’t explain when and why this boy stole my heart-perhaps it was the time spent together, or maybe it was when he saw all that was wrong with the trials  and the people or whatever. But likely…it was that bow. I was a goner-hook, line, and sinker.

Until Billy comes ashore.
Her heart warms. He does not seem weak or injured.

Billy stands below the cliffs and looks up at her. He bows, deep and slow, and the crowd murmurs. Arsinoe holds her breath.

He bows only to her.

Thomas Cresswell from Stalking Jack the Ripper (Stalking Jack the Ripper #1) by Kerri Maniscalco
*Review * Amazon * Goodreads *

Awww my smart, weird, and, again, loyal boy. He is always at Audrey Rose’s side. Always up for the next adventure-and their banter. I can’t. It’s just so cute. And his devotion to her….it’s unparalleled. I’m obsessed and that’s all there is to it.

Without lifting his head from his own journal, he said, “Not having any luck figuring me out, then? Don’t worry, you’ll get better with practice. And, yes”—he grinned wickedly, eyes fixed on his paper—“ you’ll still fancy me tomorrow no matter how much you wish otherwise. I’m unpredictable, and you adore it. Just as I cannot wrap my massive brain around the equation of you and yet adore it.”

Mason from Sugar and Spice (Glitter and Sparkle #3) by Shari L. Tapscott
*Review * Amazon * Goodreads *

Mason was thoughtful, a good listener and such a good friend to Harper.  He could be so sweet and down to earth and exactly what she needed with her cynical ways.  And his sexiness easily possessed my heart!

“We’ll have to be careful not to appear overly friendly in public,” he whispers, his words tickling my ear.
My mouth goes dry, and I swallow before I answer. “Shouldn’t be a problem. I don’t even know you. You certainly don’t know me.”
“Oh, but I plan to.”

Nicholas Wakefield from The Importance of Being Scandalous (A Tale of Two Sisters #1) by Kimberly Bell
*Review * Amazon * Goodreads *

Nicholas was beyond intoxicating and spellbinding.  His words, mannerisms and slight touches had my heart racing.  I loved how he was there for Amelia and that they confided in one another.  Their friendship and trust was so beautiful.  But underneath that friendship simmered tension, since Nicholas had been in love with Amelia for forever.

His words died off as she leaned in close, lips a hair’s breadth from his. The deep rise and fall of his chest as he breathed in drew her hand up in fascination. She played her fingers along the edges of his cravat. “I’m still interested. Are you certain?”
His hand brushed her rib cage. His thumb whispered against the underside of her breast. “It is not in my power to deny you.”

Ash from Ninja Girl by Cookie O’Gorman
*Review * Amazon * Goodreads *

Ash was seductive while also being hilarious without even trying. And I quickly got caught up in his spell! his attempts at even just talking with Snow had me cracking up while also sighing at the same time and he is someone you must meet!

“You know, you’re kind of arrogant,” I said.
“And you’re kind of beautiful.” Ash smiled and nodded to the bar while I tried to recover. Who said things like that?

Liam from The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds #1) by Alexandra Bracken
* Amazon * Goodreads *

LIAM IS THE KINDEST BBF OF ALL TIME.  I mean seriously guys he spends the whole series doing nothing but loving Ruby, Chubs, and Zu. Even after his memory of Ruby is taken away, he unconsciously tries to find her.  Ugh that sweet Southern boy. I can’t wait until this movie comes out and I swear they better have done his character justice!!

“Cause, frankly, the way I see it, you and me? Inevitable.”

Arin from The Winner’s Curse (The Winner’s Trilogy #1) by Marie Rutkoski
* Amazon * Goodreads *

We don’t really see this kindness until after the initial rebellion starts but afterwards he is nothing but sweet to Kestrel.  He’s there for her when her own father isn’t and would have given EVERYTHING up for her.

Summary of each book:

blurred lines lauren layneBlurred Lines by Lauren Layne – When Parker Blanton meets Ben Olsen during her freshman year of college, the connection is immediate—and platonic. Six years later, they’re still best friends, sharing an apartment in Portland’s trendy Northwest District as they happily settle into adult life. But when Parker’s boyfriend dumps her out of the blue, she starts to wonder about Ben’s no-strings-attached approach to dating. The trouble is, even with Ben as her wingman, Parker can’t seem to get the hang of casual sex—until she tries it with him.  The arrangement works perfectly . . . at first. The sex is mind-blowing, and their friendship remains as solid as ever, without any of the usual messy romantic entanglements. But when Parker’s ex decides he wants her back, Ben is shocked by a fierce stab of possessiveness. And when Ben starts seeing a girl from work, Parker finds herself plagued by unfamiliar jealousy. With their friendship on the rocks for the first time, Parker and Ben face an alarming truth: Maybe they can’t go back. And maybe, deep down, they never want to.  Jen’s Review & Chelsea’s Review

the trouble with love lauren layneThe Trouble with Love (Sex Love & Stiletto #4) by Lauren Layne – As Stiletto magazine’s authority on all things breakup-and-heartache, Emma Sinclair writes from personal experience. Five years ago, Emma was Charlotte, North Carolina’s darling debutante and a blushing bride-to-be. Now she’s the ice queen of the Manhattan dating scene. Emma left her sultry Southern drawl behind, but not even her closest friends know that with it she left her heart. Now Emma’s latest article forces her to face her demons—namely, the devilishly sexy guy who ditched her at the altar.  After giving up everything for a pro-soccer career, Alex Cassidy watches his dreams crumble as a knee injury sidelines him for good. Now he’s hanging up his cleats and giving journalism a shot. It’s just a coincidence that he happens to pick a job in the same field, and the same city, as his former fiancée . . . right? But when Emma moves in next door, it’s no accident. It’s research. And Alex can’t help wondering what might have been. Unlike the innocent girl he remembers, this Emma is chic, sophisticated, and assertive—and she wants absolutely nothing to do with him. The trouble is, Alex has never wanted her more.  Jen’s Review & Chelsea’s Review

i'll meet you there heather demetriosI’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios – If seventeen-year-old Skylar Evans were a typical Creek View girl, her future would involve a double-wide trailer, a baby on her hip, and the graveyard shift at Taco Bell. But after graduation, the only thing standing between straightedge Skylar and art school are three minimum-wage months of summer. Skylar can taste the freedom—that is, until her mother loses her job and everything starts coming apart. Torn between her dreams and the people she loves, Skylar realizes everything she’s ever worked for is on the line.  Nineteen-year-old Josh Mitchell had a different ticket out of Creek View: the Marines. But after his leg is blown off in Afghanistan, he returns home, a shell of the cocksure boy he used to be. What brings Skylar and Josh together is working at the Paradise—a quirky motel off California’s dusty Highway 99. Despite their differences, their shared isolation turns into an unexpected friendship and soon, something deeper.  Chelsea’s Review

But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. He’s probably got his eye on some leggy blonde with a trust fund . . . or does he?  As the summer scene kicks off in the Hamptons, Ethan is desperate to make his snobbish mother forget the pedigreed girl who broke his heart. While Stephanie’s a stretch as a decoy, the right makeover and a pastel cardigan just might do the trick. She may not love the idea of playing Ethan’s brainless Barbie girlfriend, but the free rent and luxurious digs make a tempting offer. So does the promise of a ready-made screenplay idea inspired by their charade.  But when Stephanie steps into Ethan’s privileged world, the “acting” begins to feel all too real. The kissing and touching that were intended to fool the Hamptons crowd wind up manipulating them. For a freshman in college, I have to have the worst dating track record ever.  It’s no wonder love is the last thing on my mind when Mason Lowe enters my life. But the chemistry between us is like bam! Our connection defies logic. And he’s just so freaking hot. Being around him makes me feel more alive than I’ve ever felt before. Constant attention from the opposite sex.   On this campus, I’m worshiped. While seven hundred miles away, back in my hometown, I’m still trailer park trash, child of the town tramp, and older sibling to three kids who are counting on me to keep my shit together so I can take them away from the same crappy life I grew up in.  These two opposing sides of myself never mix until one person gets a glimpse of the true me. I never expected to connect with anyone like this or want more beyond one night. This may be the real deal.  Problem is Dr. Kavanagh’s my literature professor.  If I start anything with a teacher and we’re caught together, I might as well kiss my entire future goodbye, as well as my family’s and especially Dr. Kavanagh’s. It’s past time I try to live again or just give up completely. But this is quite possibly the craziest thing I’ve ever done. In a last ditch effort to invigorate myself, I’m standing outside Oren Tenning’s bedroom, I just peeled off the sexiest pair of underwear I own, and my hand is already raised to knock. My brother would disown me for doing anything with his best friend, and he’d probably kill Oren. But if I play my cards right, no one will ever know about this. Not even Ten.  Maybe after tonight, I’ll finally get over this stupid, irrational crush I hate having on the biggest jerk I’ve ever met. Or maybe I’ll just end up falling for him even harder. everyday sexism by laura batesEveryday Sexism by Laura Bates – ‘If Caitlin Moran’s How To Be A Womanis the fun-filled manual for female survival in the 21st century, everyday sexism is its more politicised sister’ (Independent on Sunday). After experiencing a series of escalating sexist incidents, Laura Bates started theeveryday sexism projectand has gone on to write ‘a pioneering analysis of modern day misogyny’ (Telegraph). After an astounding response from the wide range of stories that came pouring in from all over the world, the project quickly became one of the biggest social media success stories of the internet. From being harassed and wolf-whistled at on the street, to discrimination in the workplace and serious sexual assault, it is clear that sexism had become normalised. But Bates inspires women to lead a real change and writes this ‘extremely powerful book that could, and should, win hearts and minds right across the spectrum’ (Financial Times). Often shocking, sometimes amusing and always poignant, everyday sexism is a protest against inequality and a manifesto for change. It’s ‘a game-changing book, a must-read for every woman’ (Cosmopolitan). ‘Admirable and culturally transferable. “A storm is coming,” writes Bates. After reading this book you’ll hope so’ (Independent).Welcome to the fourth wave of feminism.

through the woods by emily carrollThrough the Woods by Emily Carroll – Journey through the woods in this sinister, compellingly spooky collection that features four brand-new stories and one phenomenally popular tale in print for the first time. These are fairy tales gone seriously wrong, where you can travel to “Our Neighbor’s House”—though coming back might be a problem. Or find yourself a young bride in a house that holds a terrible secret in “A Lady’s Hands Are Cold.” You might try to figure out what is haunting “My Friend Janna,” or discover that your brother’s fiancée may not be what she seems in “The Nesting Place.” And of course you must revisit the horror of “His Face All Red,” the breakout webcomic hit that has been gorgeously translated to the printed page.
